like: (old) mistryl (new) mistral
that way u cant escape from scams etc
I agree. Name changes can lead to all sorts of trouble.
If it was ever made possible then your previous name should be available to others when targeting you and selecting the drop down arrow that shows your clan name. Maybe your new name has a small icon as a prefix.

I at least want a chance to kill that BD that never returned my BW and tsu*sls+4, if he ever logs on again. I dont realy want hom to be able to change name and return to the game with that toon again.
No you don't understand, when the game first came out the font was different. There was literally no difference AT ALL in, for example, I and l .
For example this is my first character, from open beta, this is either OB or prelude right here. Notice the I? A lower case L looked EXACTLY like an I.
This picture shows both me, IceDrake, and a player with a lowercase L in the name, and look at the mobs behind us. Do you see any difference in my I and the L in Vanul?
A lot of people made their name based on the font, so if IceDrake was taken, LceDrake looked exactly the same. (lower L mind you). Then I think in C2 it was changed so you could tell the difference.
well, it was their choice, but yes, I can se why. but also you can se what will happen if they allow name-change? Greed will take out the worst in people, especialy if they can get away with anything.
one sulotion for this, I guess, would be if you target someone, there should be a small box you could click and enlarge, and se what names that person used befor. all names. this way scammers would not gain anything from changing name. I could accept that.
I don't know why people are so bent on scammers, anyone can take a throw away high level char, scam a ton of stuff and swap it to a new account that no one knows either.
I'd like to change my name too, and I've never scammed anything nor would start.
Depends on the haul, a friend of mine has a weapon that people are willing to purchase for 1.5 bill. I bet a lot of people would be willing to redo 70 for something like that.
I don't think the name change would be a willy-nilly thing either, I doubt you could just change your name at will at any time.
my main was a Human Knight (never made it to 2nd class change) named Belophan ^^
then i made a BH > Bishop
started a nuker, who never made it past 2nd class either
subbed HE on Bish, deleted sub and rolled a warlock
At the moment we do not offer a name change service for your character. We are still interested in feedback about possibly offering this service in the future, however. :)

In a game like lineage where it takes months or years for a (legit) character to reach high-end levels/subs, players earn reputations based on their deeds. I am of the belief that consequences for one's behavior and affiliations is a part of the game, and a name change (or server transfer) allows them to escape that.

For me, it would be a loss to see that happen.
I say let the service happens. Shrug. So many so called "all legit" clans/alliances admit powerleveled/bought toons hoping no one will call them on it. When they do get busted, many give reasons to defend said character/toon. Now I didn't say all clans/alliances.
As for the getting scammed part... well, if you "loan" it to someone then you better be ready to lose it. It might be through scam, getting hacked, account lock, etc.
I don't see why they would, it's a risk giving gear to someone with the same name for 2+ years, same as it would be for a known scammer that got a brand new name.
Unless you're the sort that says wow I barely know you but I don't think you're a scammer, here's my +5 SOM try it out.

I would vote for the name changes only if there was an easy way to see what previous names were.
I'm saying anyone can scam you. ANYONE. I've known people that were scammed by chars they've never heard of before. I've known people scammed by people they've known for years and trusted. And anything in between.
And there is no "if you had to hand a weapon to someone". I don't have to hand anything to anyone, ever. Easy way to never lose stuff.
However, don't let that prevent you from hearing the very solid advice. Don't let anyone "see" your stuff. Just don't. And, if you don't actually know the person behind the pixels, then you don't actually know the person behind the pixels. That sentence is redundant for a reason.
It's not jaded at all, I've seen it happen and I'm trying to let people know it can happen. Will it? Maybe not, but it can.
Anything I've lent out I've always gotten back. Anything I died and dropped I always got back. That doesn't mean I'm still not cautious and willing to accept the loss if it were to occur.
New name, old name, what does it matter? People who engage in risky activities (i.e., handing your equipment to another character) will do so no matter what names are used. Just don't let yourself get scammed by paying attention at all times to what's going on around you. I see no reason not to have name changes in the game. It's a character's behavior that determines how you treat them, not their name.
ofc if you let someone hold your gear its a gamble. but if there comes a name-change service a lot more people will lose gear I belive.
Let me start my post by saying a quote from a book and a players Sig.

With that being said, Let me say this: if you hand your gear in a trade window, you can see who that player is and what clan they are in.
If you take a look at this pic, you can clearly see the player thats trying to scam me; spoofed my friends name by inputing a I where the L is supposed to be at.
I I also know that my friend being US, and my self. We never talk like I barely know English, so why in the Hell would I trade my stuff to them.
Furthermore, Non of my friends would ever ask me to see my gear. So what makes you think that a player should fall for a scam. like the name spoofing. Revert back to my quote and you'd understand why!
All you people claiming just because you think a player could change their name don't mean they would pay the extra $25 to do so. Specially a foreign player trying to scam. They'd just delete the name and make a new one.
I wouldn't mind how ever if a player changes their old name you you could look up a database on the official site or in the community server for that "quarters Names changes" was.
IE: if player IGhtks, changes their name to joemama. you should be able to see a list of all players that made the change.
But the database shouldn't hold names past a quarterly basis.

you are one of those guys that refuses to make friends ingame? you never let a friend of yours borrow some EQ?
I have plenty of friends in-game... and just as they probably would never let me borrow something just to try out, I would never let them borrow anything I wouldn't be willing to lose...
There's a very fine line between trust and foolish in online games. Do I trust my clanmates to back me up in a clan war or if I get attacked? Of course. Do I trust that the items I put into the clan warehouse will be put to good use.. sure.
I don't know about you.. but I believe that trusting someone you only know in-game with an item that took you hours and hours of farming is just foolish.
well, there are 2 people ingame I trust 110%, and I only know them ingame. I have hold most of my gear, and if it would happen they tok it, thats my two best friends ingame, so there would be no real point for me staying to play lineage2.
But, i have let other in my clan borrow some of my weps, like a soul bow +4...and a BW set +4tsu*sls..I actualy lost the BW set and the duals..but it was ok, I knew it could happen, and that particular loan was kinda suspicius. anyway, its a game, I dont cry over the loss, I just wanna be able to get some revenge if they try change name :)
