Ok guys, i tried asking this on another thread but kinda failed.
My girlfriend and I are playing 2 new chars. Mine is a cleric, going prophet. Her's is an Elven Wiz, going Elemental Summoner.
My question: Are we wasting our time? Are Elemental summoners THAT bad? We also have, as other chars a Silver Ranger and a Gladiator (SR is hers, glad is mine). Should we nevermind the ES?
Things i don´t care about: Phantom Summoners, Warsmiths, Warlocks and w/e else. I also dont care about warcryers or bishops.
Can i get a straight answer on this? :)
Thanks.
go for the ES. its one of the best AOE classes in the game.
if youre going prophet, remember to keep the ponies buffed up with fighter AND magic buffs.
that duo is a very good thing. put your ES in light armor and a dagger for your lvl 50+ grinding. hell, you yourself as a prophet can set yourself up in battle gear and head out for pve. its not that hard.
You can't AoE properly in light - ES wears light for single target if they really like that, otherwisely they wear robes for AoE, and they work quite nicely for single target also.
Whether or not it's a waste of time is a question of what you're looking to do - do you intend to wind up anywhere in the end game of level 78/80 characters with full subclasses and enchanted weapons?
Most people quit long before they reach that area of the game, and in that case, the ES is not at all a waste of time.
yeah. archers are sooo gimp :p summoners are a rarely played class because of their high skill requirement. you got to be able to manage 2 player's lives at the same time and still manage to kill things. go ES there are already anough ranged classes on the server by reason of their ubergimpdom in every area of the game.
Everyone is different. I played a prophet as a main on my first toon... then again I was invited into a clan before I finished creating my character. Each situation is unique.
MalineII can let you know the pro-s and cons of the SE for sure. I only took my prophet to 40 and rerolled to another server where I started a sorc.
The main thing is whether or not you enjoy playing your toons. That's all that matters. If you plan on duoing your way through the game, your duo sounds good as you'll complement each other. If you plan on joining or starting a clan at some point, you have to ask yourself what, if any role you want to play within that clan.
Enjoy the game, and the company you keep. Good luck!
changed it, due to the fact that there is another AOE gimp in the interlude, i didn't want to get into the high 60's and 70's and then have it 10x harder again to level fast.
like this i can solo all day self buffed, so i'll level at my own pace (which is fast) and i'll be able to get leveled fast once i get 56 due to queen cat buff :)
Playing a summoner has been the most fun of any class that I have done yet and I have done most of them. The ES is a good one. The buff you get from your 56 servitor does really well in parties, to say nothing of the fact that you can cure para and stun with it as well. It takes time to learn how to play the toon well, it is a challenge and not for everyone. If you think you might like it then go with ES for sure. The 2 of you will be able duo very effectively and party very well with others.
I don't think those two are a good duo. prophets work well with melee's or archers, who don't have their own buffs. prophet and archer work nice. see how the buffs, haste (hit faster), zerk (hit and spell cast faster, but you are squishier), and VR(heals you while you hit) and empower will affect you at higher levels.
I have never played an ES, but i think after awhile, the prophet is gonna kinda be a xp leech. and they never get a greater heal. but you will be able to get other people in your parties. so if thats what you enjoy, you will always be able to play.
But as a pure Duo, I don't think that is one of the best combinations.
Having to play without buffs = sucky...really really sucky

Since you haven't played a summoner I would suggest that you keep your opinion on this to yourself. I wish I had a prophet with me all the time when I was leveling from 40-50+. Healing won't be a problem. The servitor will be taking most of the damage and the ES has Bishop level heals to use on it. Yes, I said Bishop level heals. If you check the power level of the Bishops Major Heal at any particular level, you will see that the servitor heal the summoner gets at that same level is the same power level. This should be a very good duo, especially as the Prophet will be able to supply some crowd control (root ftw) in case of trouble.
Even more, other than VR and Empower, the prophet really has all the buffs that the ES and the servitor will need to operate. When duo'ing together they will be doing mostly melee work anyway. When they are in a party with others, they will do well to make sure they have a SO/SE in the party so they can have both VR and empower. The AOE attackes from the servitor will be effective at that point.
An elemental summoner could wish for no better duo partner than a live prophet in AoEing. Word of fear is a live-saver, as is having a second source of heals (the summoner has their own heals).
Acumen, windwalk, high levels of concentration and zerk are all absolutely amazing buffs for an AoEing elemental summoner. Greater Shield also helps.
guys you really confuse me *lol*
At first everyone tells me to go for an SR, because like every other elven character is gimped somehow. Then I'll make an SR and ppl start to say that SRs are gimped. So I'm getting all sad about it and start an ES because you all told me it's an awesome class that's fun to play... ok THEN ^^!! once i hit like lvl 32 i find this almost 10 page long thread about how gimped pure summoners are and ppl tell me to go back to play my SR when i want to have fun & enjoy the game later on...
And now it's ES again? wah... >_<!!!! I really dunno what to do/ play anymore. *lol*
It's not 'you all', everyone has their own opinions on everything. Let me summarise:
SR
- One of the highest damage characters in PvE
- An archer. All archers rock at PvP, some will say that SRs rock less than the other two, some will argue otherwise. It's unargueably not a 'bad' class though.
- Duos OK with a prophet.
- Expensive.
ES
- A fun and fast PvE character with great versatility. To me, infinitely more fun in PvE than an archer. You can play in various different styles, so your toon never has to get boring.
- Viability in end game depends grossly on the server - but no matter where you are, it has a few stronge suits at end game. For example, it's an excellent olympiad character, no matter how you twist and turn it. If you're not after completely 'pwning' everyone, it's fully sufficient.
- Duos extremely well with a prophet.
- More expensive, but makes good money.
They are both nice characters, and balancing is always being upset with major updates anyway - so simply go for the one with the playstyle that suits you more.
i gotta say, i was in a duo with a prof all day yesterday on my warlock...i didn't need a heal once, we did 1.5 rooms in the catas (mobs where green and white) prof was set up as a battle prof(heavy armor, and duels) it was amazing.
it's a great combo, so much fun
hi there again ^^!
my bf and I are now lvl 34 and we are going for elemental summoner / PP. I was wondering which spot would be the fastest for us to lvl till lvl 40? What do you suggest?
I would try the Plains of the Lizardmen, from there you can go to the Rim of Ivory Tower crater or Lower level EV. EV is nice as the mobs are times 2 or 3, and you can move to upper level when you out level the mobs. Upper level EV has the Elder version of the same mobs and they are as high as level 55. The Rim of the crater can be nice because the kill speed on the bug bears will be good and the respawn rate is very nice. I went there on my PR and I could not out kill the spawn rate and everything was a 3 shot. (1 shot if first shot was crit)
That stuff is crap experience and takes 3-4 nukes to kill.. thats with blessed SPSD and top D gear..(the staff of life is +3 and so are the duals equiped on the cleric)
It was easier lvling a human warrior + elven ranger than lvling cleric and nuker.. we have GOT to be lvling in the wrong spots...
any white mob will be a 2nuke at your level in top gear.
hunt anything thats white (try lizardmen plains for 2x (3nuke) mobs and 2x exp for a combined rade of 60% faster levelling - but at a consequential 60% less adena gain)
ok, passive = they don't attack you unless yo uattack them.
magic resist = they resist magic attacks.
1+1=2?
Uhm....
is there a L2 dialect? some ancient language nubs like me dont know? cause.. you guys hardly make ANY sense..
Where did i say ANYTHING about passive or magic resist or rollercoasting or spindriving or skycoasting or lollypopping mobs?
I asked if we are supposed to kill gargoyles and magic eyes in Ivory tower crater, cause people said that was easy and good xp, turned out to be hard and crap xp.
Why is it so hard to say " GO HERE (PLACE -X) AND STAY THERE TILL 40."
Every time we ask we get 21983721983721983 places and ALL of them turn out to be bad, xp wise. Im not even asking about adena, all i want is to get to 40 already.
Yes, gargoyles and magic eyes. Neither is magic resist (or wasn't the last time I hunted there).
Coincidentally, neither is four-shot with an SoL. They're both two-, possibly two-1/2-shot even for an elven wizard.
Unless my fingers are messed up to count and my eyes are strabic or astimastic, i counted 3-4 shots every time. With herb of magic, 3.
Again, the wiz is 34.
Then something there has changed recently - I was two-shotting those mob at 34 before. :p Check the dropdown and simply find mobs that don't involve any magic or elemental resistances that bother you.
actually, i still prefer to level at hardin's 35-45.
(north of death pass, go E along the river, hunt from the road of death pass all the way back to the end of the lake.
fast kills, no m resist mobs that resist anything an elf could fire, and cleric can join in the hunt on the undead there.
other than the areas previously suggested, you can go into a catacomb and level for what will be 8x nukes.
good exp for 34-40 = 1000 exp every 6 seconds. powering through the kills on lower mobs nets you MORE exp in the same time frame but it APPEARS slower cause each mob nets you less exp.
but you should know that already.
also, DONT use your summon. dont think anyone mentioned that already...
