What do you all think about having graphical signatures here on these forums?
Not sure how Mistryl feels on this but her input would be cool.
Of course you would have to lay down some rules. The basic forum rules apply, but also add that a restriction both file and physical size be added. You also have the option to turn off the viewing of others sigs....
Some questions:
Would this add a significant amount of moderation?
Would this add any significant performance decreases in forum performance?
As long as there are restrictions on size of those and they can be turned of I see no harm in them. But restrictions should be tecnicaly inforsed, for example you just can't put in sig wider then specified size, site will give you an error.

Too much visual clutter. Then again, I come from a town that doesn't allow the McDonalds to have the large golden arches so my taste my be different than some.

Alot of other sites have done a great job implementing a graphical sig rule set. Most peoples clans allow sigs as well, so I see no reason to not allow it.
What about a smaller size like 500 x 115 I have seen some really nice Graphical Sigs done by people that would be very tasteful.

I also agree. I like just having the text to read and not having to page thru all those signatures. Some of the forums, those sigs [no matter the quality of them] often take up more room than the actual text. Keep the forums sleek!!!

The ones that say no like Elrohir and the others cant paint thats why they dont like the idea.
As long as I can turn them off, I personally do not care.
I always turn them off - even if a sig is really well made, tasteful and whatnot, it gets pretty old when you read a thread and see the same sigs over and over and over again. I visit boards for the TEXT, not for viewing pictures. And of course there is the page loading issue - I'd hate having to wait for the rest of the page to show up, just because the browser gets stuck on some signature pics hosted on some slow server.
But I guess we will never get signature pics. A forum without signature pics simply looks more "serious" and "professional", and this site represents NCSoft. And then there is the security issue - there already have been some exploits (buffer overflows etc.) via loading graphics in a browser, so this simply would be insecure. And they would have to check the signature pics - guess they would not want somebody to put racist/pornographic/insulting stuff here. Just look at l2 blah, and you'll see all the reasons why we do not have signature pics here.
They are, more noticably, both made for ease of identification of poster - a small visual signature makes (at least for me) reading a thread a lot easier.
Because of the various reasons already mentioned (including image file size and appropriateness, as well as clutter on the board), we don't allow image signatures. As always, please feel free to continue to talk about the idea, but that policy probably won't be changing any time soon. :)
By the by, if I miss an inappropriate avatar, please use the Notify Moderator button or send me a private message. That includes avatars with a massive file size. I try to catch those then I can. Thanks!

It's because I've seen what people do at "other sites" that makes me so against it. The more I see of them, the less I like this idea.

Tasteful is subjective and requires human intervention. I've seen avatars here of questionable taste. Nothing happens to them until someone complains. Why create tons more work for the moderators?
And to the "if you don't like them, turn them off" crowd, people sometimes put very useful information about themselves in their text signatures; their server or level, for instance. I use this information to tailor my responses to questions they might have. However, if all of that starts going "graphic" then I'll have to make the assumption that each person I respond to is brand new and knows very little about the game. Leading to the inevitable "read my sig, moron!" fights. No, just not worth it.
Although I've seen a lot of very cool signatures on the other site, there are just as many if not more, horrible and/or inappropriate ones that would be a pain to moderate.

Got PwNd by policy, plus I am sure you don't need/want the extra work having to deal with Graphical sigs.
I still think its a nice idea that would put some artistic flavor into the forums, the Lineage 2 game art is the best of any game out there hands down and this would be one more way to show it off IMHO.
As said up there, if something is "tasteful" or "artistic flavor" is very much personal opinion. And it's not as if our toons all look incredibly different in this game. Seen one signature pic of a 78 HE with Drac Bow and Drac Armor, seen them all.
