hi everyone... yep, i'm brand spankin new here lol. so new i'm still downloading the game. i wanted to do a little research before diving in and find out more about the servers, classes, etc. i've read the server personalities and the info on the main page about races, classes, etc. but i'm still undecided. i'll probably go with either a human or an elf for my first toon, and definitely a fighter class. from what i've read, i don't really have to decide for sure until like lvl 20, right? so i'm not too worried about that. what i really wanna know is which server is more suited for me. i'm not hardcore, but not carebear either... i'd like to consider myself a mature player for the most part, and i prefer to spend my time in game with people who are helpful, friendly, and who really enjoy the game as a whole (not just PvP, grinding, hardcore, etc). so... can anyone give me an idea of which server might suit me? yes, i read the server personality threads... but i want something more in depth, please? :)
The server personality threads are so general as to be nearly useless--they are also somewhat out of date.
Here's the deal on servers. The younger servers have a FEW newer players.
In your place, I'd choose between the two with the lowest ping--then go on those server sections and see how many new people have shouted out 'hi' to the server in the past few pages of posts.
It's not ironclad but it will give you an idea if the server is getting other new players or not (sort of).
I can recommend Lionna and Devianne with confidence. I only have low toons on 3 of the others and was never impressed so I won't name them.
Franz and Teon have Euro times for seiges and such so unless that timing fits your life or you live there you might want to reconsider either of those.
As for choosing a race/class---read on this library all you are interested in and give one a try. The first 10 levels will occur in an hour or less so it's not like you are locked in. You get 7 toons per server so you don't even have to delete errant choices right away if you change your mind.
As for not having to pick "until level 20" that isn't exactly correct.
You must choose either mystic or fighter and race and gender immediately (except for dwarves which can only be fighter class).
At first class change, which is lvl 20, the toon you picked has a couple of specific options based on what they started as.
In other words, you can't pick a human wizard and at lvl 20 expect to become any other race, gender, or choose a melee route--there aren't any fighter choices for a lvl 20 mystic (and vice versa).
You can find most basic info on this site. I'd suggest reading much of it carefully.

how much you role play is entirely up to you. even if you dont role play at all, you will likely find a certain sort of connection with your main characters, simply because of the ungodly amount of time you will spend logged in as them. when somone flags on you, your heart will race, you will get angry, you might even get even. are you role playing? depends on how you look at it.

Most of RP stuff hapens within the RPing people, no one will bug you in streets making you to RP. Sometimes you may run into ocasional RP conversation in general chat, but that isnt too common.
Lionna is an RP server becouse it got more RP and RP friendly clans then other servers and due to this new people who are into RP also come to Lionna.
