Ok two clannies got scammed of all their gear and weapons, at the arena, there was only a few ppl there at the time, so i was able to guess who it was.
Now i PM this person asking for their stuff back, this dude is a noob he, PM's me back a PM that was obviously not meant for me, he was braggin to a friend of the gear he got.
So Screen Shot time, this proves it beyond doubt....can i now ruin his name for the whole server to know, can i defame him and his *** PK'd back to lvl 1. Can i do watever i want to him now?
Also any advice on dealing with a scammer who has caught himself out. Please help me.....im so mad atm :mad:
Well you can pk him back to level 4 or whatever it is, yell in game to the whole world he's a scammer. Etc. Not sure if they allow it here though, and if you do it on blah likely they'll tell you to shut it noob.
Its not the trading at the track which is stupid its the not checking you are trading with the right person....triple checking and confirming in clan/ally/vent that all looks good if its anything of value.
Shouting around town to defame someone will probably do as much harm to your own name as to theirs....people are strange.
Why, in gods name, are people stupid enough to trade at the track? I guess they saved on those pesky port fees, huh?
As well as the lag from porting around. There's nothing intrinsically stupid about trading at the track, I do it daily and have never mistraded, largely because I ask on ventrilo if I'm trading with the right person.
that's life my friend. many ppl get scammed every day. who hasnt buy some soul ores as crystals A? i have, long way back but i have and many pple that wont admit it , had and they will again. just being carefull to who and what you re trading. after all scammers exist IRL too. at least there, if you get scammed, you can punch him in the face, unfortunately, it cant be done ingame (it should though :p )
Oh yes I have been scammed in my noob days and it wont happen again, it is the most horrible feeling u can experience in this game, especailly when u borrow gear and weapons.
I tried to warn my clannies about this scam, they are recently new to the game and I took all the precautions I could unfortuantly they still fell for it.
I just got to keep them from quitting the game, and work to get the gear they need back.
There's not alot left to do now but get revenge, im just glad I know his main's name, he's dead!
Noob Question since we're on the subject.........what's the problem with trading at the track that makes it riskier than anywhere else?
It's because scammers know that people port to the track just to trade. So, they spam trade requests to anybody that is there; hoping you'll think it's the person you're going to trade with.
Yes, I trade there (usually with my alts). However, I double-, triple-, quadruple-, fivetuple-check my trade windows before confirming.

As long as you're not racist, swearing, or threatening him IRL or anything, sure go for it. Give him a bad rep.
I think the players in game name should be posted right here
so we all know who to avoid. Same with unprovoked pk'ers.

I posted the name in Erica this morning. I should post all the
names who have pk'd me since I started playing last February.

I don't think the names should be posted here of scammers and pk'ers for 2 reasons.
first, the person claiming they were scammed could be lying.
"sorry, Joe, I'm so mad that I got scammed out of that dama sword you loaned me (which I sold)! Damm those scammers!"
Secondly, pk'ers aren't doing anything wrong. If you don't wanna die this isn't the game for you. Random griefing is frustrating when you're on the receiving end--but you have remedies that don't involve whining. Many people on your server already know who the griefers are--they have informal kos attached to their names. Just shout out that "red xxdeathxx" is around and others will arrive to kill him again and again.
No to posting names of reds that hurt your feelings.
As for scammers--you can't pk them off the server--they will never log that scamming toon out of MDT or town. MDT--scam--return to town wh and frieght stuff to main--return to MDT--repeat. You have little chance of even finding out who the real player is.
Next time trade them an antidote.

And as for insta trade window requests--you are supposed to read them. Exercise more care.

I would post it everywhere with the ss to prove it. But then again, you are dealing with successful, accomplished liars, it may turn around and bite ya.
Ok I hear you, no more posting of names. Hadn't been pk'd in
about 2 months and it just rubbed me the wrong way. I swear
I would be 2 levels higher if not for the **** pk'ers! Trying hard

Then I dont' want to hear about it! There is no reason to get scammed by someone who is supposed to be a clan member and isn't, when you can just ask them in vent "Are you trading with me?" and now that the trade window shows you who your trading with and their clan name, no one should get scammed this way at all. Just pay attention dammit! I get so tired of hearing about people falling for this type of scam and loosing their gear!

When I was a clan leader we instituted a password. No trades unless someone gives the password.
You get scammed then, you only have yourself to blame.
That's a very good rule. I'm so paranoid about trading, especially at MDT, I always ask on vent "do you see it?" when I trade, even after they changed it so we now see clan name next to the person's name that you're trading with.

A scam isn't a breach fo the EULA any more than a PK, so I don't see a problem at all. This is completely within-the-rules in game behaviour, so I don't see why it would lie under the protection of secrecy that goes as far as botters and farmers are concerned.

trading at mdt is nice.saving a lot of port costs, cuz I do it daily. and yea, many there try to scamm, every onc ein the while someone is trading me when I port there...i take accept, and wait for them to trade me stuff..never happens :( hehe. I have never gott scammed there, or anywhere else.

ebaying/botting is against the eula
scamming/pking is not
scammers suck but there really is no excuse to fall for any scam these days
and pkers suck (hard to believe but we were all newbs once) back in my day you couldnt last 10 minuets without getting 1 hit by some overpowered perma red - well you could if you didnt keep going back to the same spot <-- hint
It's not against any law at current - the situation is still being explored and debated, and due to the nature of these games, that argument has been going for a long time and will continue for a while.
Why are the scammer, griefer and PKer better than an ebayer or botter? Because they're an in game problem.
I've gotten PKed once this past year or so, and that ended in a friendly exchange of buffs and resses.
Hunt away from populated spots (NoS, HC, NoP, EG), get into a clan that will help you if you're in trouble, and you should have no problem.
I don't scam myself, but I don't think there's anything bad about it - the line between scamming and the sort of price-driving I do is as thin as me being open about asking completely ludicrous prices on either end of the scale. ;)

stealing and contrary to civil law in game or in real life.
well since the law in most countries doesnt recognize in game items to have any real world value you cant exactly tell the police if someone steals your SOM
ive never scammed my self (prolly cause i have a conscience and know how hard it is to aquire stuff legitimately)
if someone wants to scam and they can live with themselves they should feel free, once again NC has introduced heaps of ways to prevent being scammed so short of holding you hand and poping up 50 different warnings everytime you buy or trade its just player error
pkers are a different matter and although i havent seen a perma red for the last 50 lvls its one of those things you just have to live with
