how old are you?

Well, Voltron sounds familiar (originally I thought it was a cartoon about a boy who controlled a large red robot with this remote control box until I saw your link).

And of course I remember watching "HeMan".

I'm 39 :D
I'm 923.

Well, I don't know the two shows that Elro mentions (and trippy they do seem to be) but a LOT of Looney Toons passed by these eyes.

Clash of the Titans? *sniff... tear...

I saw that in a Drive in too!
I may not be as fogey as some of ya......Elro & Sovrath, but how bout getting to watch Krull in the movies as a b-day present? I was 6 though.

I may have been born in the 70's but disco is better off dead!!!!!

My favorite show growing up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtWSqC4VJKI). I'd actually go mental if I couldn't watch it.

I almost went mental watching that

I'm so old... Bah, only few of you would recognise stuff from my childhood, due to cultural difference. I'm ...26 (I actually had to think for a sec there - 26 and already senile).
fo all of us old school 80's kids you will be pleased to know that this is coming this year (http://www.transformersmovie.com/main.html)
and voltron is coming next year
pretty scary stuff

Not pleased at all by it.

From the preview of the Transformers movie, it's all humans running away from Transformers. Then you get some tagline like "Some will come to Defend us, most will come to Kill us."

Huh? Since when were humans a high priority on a Decepticon's to-do list? All the movie is going to be is some scared human running from the big bad Decepticons and then at the end the Autobots will blast the [censored] out of them. Hooray, nice story for humans but absolutely nothing to do with the Transformers universe.

Of course they'll give Optimus Prime a bad *** look so when he first appears people will be all like "Oh dayum!" Michael Bay ruined Pearl Harbor, he's going to ruin this one too.
That looks pretty cool, I go see that one. Just hope it's done well.
omg, i thought i was really old to play video games, but by reading your posts and your age (of all that posted in here till now) i feel like a teen again :P

22 here. Didn't have a TV when i was a kid but i watched Exo-squad at my friend's house sometimes. Books are your friends.

Books are your friends.

What channel is that on?
there is a book TV channel on sattelite. All the excitement of war and peace, all the imagination of TV.
I used to watch the Super Mario Bros Cartoon. Its not that old, I know. :p
For me it was RoboTech

me too..... it was hilarious.... there was like a guy on the conan o'brien show....like angry guy on a couch, who described trying to buy the vhs tapes, but the company putting them out kept going out of business before he could get them all. I had the same problem. when the DVD's came out, i bought them all this time.

thought I was the only guy who had that problem, but i was wrong.
your sig is awesome

I have aches and pains older than you son. :)
I'm 23.
I'm so old, when DM called me grandpa, he got it right, Johnny Quest was the cartoon. GI Joe had made it's debut, saw the Beattles live on Ed Sullivan. But I think young.

This is my childhood found here

**** i still remember every word of that intro
thats about to be a movie too O.o
anyone see a trend developing?
I didn't watch a lot of tv when i was little. I guess around 9 or 10 i started watching Full House like everyday. And i will be 21 on Monday! :) Woot Legal!.... but i don't drink so i guess it wont be to much fun.
lol after the movies in the 80's, and them bringing them back in the 00's, im totally not surprised that they want to make another movie.

The creator was a genius. Ninjas. Turtles. Pizza and a talking man-rat. Who could want more?

*adds vehicles and ninja weapons*

The original comic (independent) was so much better. Brilliant, even, if you knew your comics in those days.

I have aches and pains older than you son. :)

Yeah, we are among the oldest here on these boards...

My birth certificate says I'm 34 but mentally I'm about 5.

Now's a good time to start :p
16
we can drink here at 18
i think the average age is more like 16 though
A child of the 80's here as well, I grew up watching transformers, thunder cats and atro boy. You know they don't make cartoons like they used to ... these days its all about flogging off mechandise and trading cards

You remember He Man? After watching this all your childhood memories of him will dissapear in a "poof" of smoke :P
He Man on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psTt1aOflps)

Also worth posting:
She Man (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ii67HiiTNIw&mode=related&search=)
Actually now that i think of it, cartoons were always about flogging off mechandise ...
Well, in that case it means that i'm older than you, because actually it was the other way around : first came the toys (with which i played), then, a few years after, the cartoons (which i was too old to watch by that time) !
lol i heard a rumor on He-Man that really started to make my head spin because I liked him too....

lol crazy he-man and his crazy creator

~shonen

PS: All cartoons even in the 80s were about flogging off merchandise. Lol i would venture to say EVERY show ever created is trying to get you to buy SOMETHING since the invention of commercials and product placing. lol so probably even before the invention of TV :P Woo Hoo.
18 :)
Let's just say I have dim memories of Jimmy Carter as the President of the US... but, at the time, we (ie, my family and I) were more interested in James Callaghan as the PM of the UK, and Liam Cosgrove as the Taoseach.
Im so old that I've played with mp3 players....? O.o
what can a 16 year old say? XD

wait! I know! pokemon and digimon! yup I rember now..XD

You're just another young whippersnapper. I won't say my age either, but when I was young, this is what I watched on Saturday mornings.
Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46LR3hVjJy8)

Just throw in Johnny Quest and I'm there!
47 here, btw.
so tell us Drakkos, how DID they come up with the name for Dirt?
Well, first they announced a merge of one world into another.....then they did a naming poll......
well when i was growing up, cable had just been invented, so i finally got american stations. All the cool cartoons were on american stations. Id start my sat mornings with legion of super heroes where my favorite were the wondertwins....(form of water... shape of a bucket.... splash) and their monkey gleek. Then the smurfs, bugsbunny show, Dungeons and dragons(have the DVD series now:)) rocket robin hood and others:)
LMAO!!!!!!!!! XD

I won't say how old I am because you not suppose 2 ask any way :p

so what culture is it that your not sapossed to ask someone of thier age? I've never understood this concept.... it simply makes no sense at all.
Who remembers M.A.S.K.?
Old enough to know better. ~.^

Nothing tops Optimus Prime. They just don't make 'em like that anymore.

Who remembers M.A.S.K.?

I remember M.A.S.H :D
Yeah! but do you remember "The Green Hornet"? (points to anyone who can tell me his sidekick's name--yes I know it but most don't recall it. Think OJ Simpson trial for a clue). How about the cartoon "Super Chicken?"

Death Valley Days?
The Big Valley?
The Rifleman?
Rawhide?

who can tell me his sidekick's name

Bruce Lee? (http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/thegreenhornet/)

::in Alex Trebek's voice::
No. Sore-ry...we were looking for.....Cato.

"Roll 'em, Cato...". the Green Hornet said it all the time in the show.
Though who played Cato I can't even vaguely remember.

Buzzz WRONG!

He name was Kato not Cato played by Bruce Lee It's all over the Internet.

The Green Hornet is a masked fictional crime fighter. Originally created by Fran Striker for an American old-time radio program in the 1930s, the character has appeared in other media as well, including film serials in the 1940s, a network television program in the 1960s, and multiple comic book series from the 1940s to the 1990s. Though various incarnations sometimes change details, in most incarnations the Green Hornet is Britt (or "Brit") Reid, a newspaper publisher by day who by night goes out in his masked "Green Hornet" identity to fight crime as a vigilante, accompanied by his similarly masked Asian manservant Kato and driving a car, equipped with advanced technology, called "Black Beauty". The Green Hornet is often portrayed as a fair-to-above average hand-to-hand combatant and is often armed with a gun that sprays knock-out gas (an electric stun weapon called the "hornet's sting" was added to his arsenal in the TV series).

Kato is a fictional character from The Green Hornet radio program. This character has also appeared with the Green Hornet in film, television, book and comic book versions. Kato was the Hornet's sidekick and has been played by a number of actors. On radio, Kato was initially played by Raymond Hayashi, then Roland Parker who had the role for most of the run, and in the later years Mickey Tolan.[1] Keye Luke took the role in the movie serials, and in the television series it was handled by Bruce Lee.

The Power of the Internet.......Use it ;)
The power of the internet? I thought we were remembering! What about looking stuff up on the internet is there in remembering?

Kato, Cato--I was 9! The guy's name was pronounced "Kay-do" on the show.
Mostly I remember the green car!

Internet---pfft. What fun is that?

I'm turning 28 soon, thats enough info for ya'll. (as if any one cares)

PS: they removed all the the silverhawks from youtube. :( :(

ps: by newest do u mean used?
I got completely eaten by Tom and Jerry, Knight Rider and McGuyver series on Austrian TV. Luckily I live by the border line with so-called "western world" :)

Superman and He-man and Rambo and stuff were just soaking here, but the more it was unreachable the more boys loved it and were dreaming about that stuff. Oh yeah, and Barbie for me ;)

Shortly after Velvet Revolution came Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and all that nice Disney stuff like Duck Tales, Rescue Rangers, Gumi bears and such. I still got some of them recorded on videotape. I'm 28 BTW.

I see all these boy cartoons, but no mention of the true classics like Carebears, Rainbow Bright, Strawberry Shortcake and My Little Pony!

Hehe, I also liked the Smurfs, GI Joe, Gummi Bears (http://youtube.com/watch?v=bFv5TLb7220&feature=PlayList&p=9D1BB16A226 DC308&index=0), Fox's Peter Pan & the Pirates, TMNT, Darkwing Duck, X-Men and Pokemon (even tho I was in H.S. by that time. :p)

And I'm currently a big fan of The Emperor's New School on Disney Channel. Some people never grow up. ^_^
I am personally 25.

And judging from the contents of hero chat most of the time, the average age of heros on my server is approximately 12.
lol
bunch of pups.
I was still listening to the Green Hornet, Dragnet, etc. on the radio shows as we grew up - LOL
Well I watched Thunderbirds as a kid and we'd go on trips in my dad's car with The Beach Boys, ELO and Simon & Garfunkel blaring out from the.................... Motorola 8 track stereo !

I've never heard of Voltron and the first computer at school (during Callahan years) was something that spewed out punch card or rolls with your programme on it.
Just as I was leaving school I stumbled across this little room that was now dedicated to the latest technology. The computers in there were 4016 CBM Pets and I learned Machine code and assembler. Programmes loaded by cassette tape.
My first computer was a similar 4016 and I still have it in the loft.

How many people know what you mean when you "Poke 32768" ?

Who let Princess FeeFee in the thread? <3

@Zhanig LOL! what's up gramps? XD
i really dont remember much
I turned 30 this year.
question?

why are women more protective of thier age then men?
Because older men are distinguished. Ever see women talk about how dreamy Sean Connery is? Ever see men do the same for a woman in her '70s?

Women hide their age. It's what they do. My wife dyes her hair to hide the gray but she likes the gray in my beard. Go figure.
Hi Elrohir *waves*

Cougars.

Michelle Pfeiffer, Kim Basinger? They're not exactly "young" but oh my!
Cheryl Tiegs (and most of those older SI women!).....

And of course the most beautiful not-a-child-anymore woman on the planet--my wife!
No question about it, I married up (lol). Still don't know why someone like her would be married to someone like me!

She'd kill me if I posted an imageshack phote so you'll just have to trust me.
Why is it older women dating younger men are referred to cougars and is considered "bad"

while men that are considerably older dating far younger women is well, acceptable.

What's worse is that fact that it's other women that seem to frown upon this concept and start shouting cougars while the men are like "wtf.... i'm happy"
There always has been and always will be a double standard among the genders.
We could all go in-depth about the little details over and over, but I doubt it will get anyone anywhere. It's all too subjective.
Turned 26 a few weeks ago. Yoroshiku~!
I don't even remember being 26...

I don't even remember being 26...

My respects old man :p.
I have socks that are 26 years old (and a 24 year old son!).
I certainly have a TV that is 26 years old--and some golf club--you get the idea.
I thought I remembered 26 but it turns out I forgot.
Dating younger men is bad? Dang. I guess I am terrible. I went from dating mostly guys 6 years older than me to dating guys 6 years younger than me, and neither one had any friends that could tell I wasn't of the same age group.

Also, women avoid giving our age because we are crafty and don't want anyone to use our age and birthday to haxxorz our accounts. ;)

Since you're only 18, yeah, that's just wrong.

I went from dating mostly guys...

Couldn't resist...
Neither could I. ;)
:o
This term "Cougar", is it an American thing ?
I've never heard of it.
If an older woman has a younger man, he's her "toy boy" and if the man is a lot older, hes a "sugar daddy".
Cougar ?
Thought that was a cat, car or a pet on L2 :P
I'm almost 27 and I poke fun at my girlfriend because she's 10 years older than me. Honestly though, I prefer a woman that is mature enough and has been through enough BS, that she's learned to deal with issues properly as they come up. I tend to be against excessive drama.

Cougar (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=cougar).

. Term used by TV series 30 Rock (episode "Cougars"), How I Met Your Mother (episode "Aldrin Justice"), Two and a Half Men (episode "Waiting for the Right Snapper"), Supernatural (episode "Red Sky at Morning"), the NBC reality TV show Age of Love, CBC's jPod, One Tree Hill and Law & Order: CI (episode "Betrayed").
On film, it was used in 2004's National Lampoon's Going the Distance and in 2007's Ocean's Thirteen. The 2007 film Cougar Club was dedicated to the subject — its plot was about two males creating a club where parties are thrown where male members get the chance to meet and have sexual encounters with "cougars". (found @ Wikipedia)

I believe there are two major reasons why our culture accepts the whole older man/younger woman better than the older woman/younger man thing.

The first reason is that historically, this has been the norm. We're talking thousands of years here, and as recently as 50 years ago... men had to grow up, learn a trade or profession, accumulate wealth, etc. before they were able to consider taking on a wife and starting a family. Women, however, were a resource/money hog on the family, eating food that they were not earning (now, this is an antiquated view held by men long dead! So don't blame me!), so they were married off shortly after adolescence. Also, the prime child bearing years for women is younger than men, around 15 - 30, so, because of the (lack of) health care available in the past, lower life span, high infant mortality rate, etc., women needed to "get started" earlier than men. As we all know, men never get too old to father kids.

Now, while all that is a moot point nowadays, the fact remains that it has been ingrained in our cultures for thousands of years, that a man being a few years older than the woman is the norm. I do think it's somewhat changing though, because I think that more than a 10 year difference is becoming less acceptable than it used to be.

Second, and here's where all the guys will jump on me, is that girls and women typically mature faster than men. (I swear to you, I learned that in college! My own psychology professor - a MAN - taught us that... although I will admit I knew it beforehand. :p) So a five year difference where the man is the older of the two, is really not that big of a difference. The other way around, however, is. I would imagine (not being an old geezer like some of the old farts around here) that at ages 30+, that difference is much less significant than it is when we're in our teens and twenties.

Anyway, I think these are the two major reasons why most people accept older man/younger woman better than they do an older woman with a younger man.

Personally, I wouldn't want to date anyone more than 5 years older than me... I *might* could go as high as 7, but I dunno. Dating someone as old as my Dad? Never! I don't care how much money I stand to inherit when the guy finally croaks, I wouldn't do it! LOL

And I know I'm just confirming the whole double standard, but I wouldn't want to date anyone more than a year (or two at the most) younger than me. XD

But, regardless of all this, I think that each person in this world is an individual, so you can't just make blanket assumptions. I know quite a few couples, who have as much as a 20 year age difference, who are extremely happy & in love and have been married for many years. So I think it all comes down to each individual person and couple. (For instance, regarding what I said earlier, many boys/men are extremely mature while many girls/women are very immature...)

Second, and here's where all the guys will jump on me, is that girls and women typically mature faster than men.

Nothing to jump on. This is true. Take it from a 44 year old man.
You shut your mouth right now Elro. blasphemer!

Ahahaha that was bloody brilliant Ashley.

*fixed* And you deserve it. ;p

Hush! The ladies are talking.
There really needs to be an Elro forum. Nobody is going to post their age now t....holy HELL.. wasn't your post count at 18003 yesterday?? O_o

Edit: too..sleepy.. to..type..gud
Umm, maybe... I think I was haxored. I'm kinda new to this computer stuff. :(
Speaking as an older guy--I have little interest in women who are much younger.
It's too much effort to convince them to accept all my faults!

They still have all that energy and hope and optimism--wanting to 'change the guy' and 'make him better'.
At this point in my life it's a seriously lost cause and I'm comfortable admitting I have very little chance of "getting better".

At most I'll lose my hearing, need stronger glasses, need stretchier pants, and forget even more than I do now. The absolute last thing I need is someone who wants to push me to improve myself.
Myself is pretty much a lost cause... ::tips another beer:: *burps* ::goes to bed early::
I strive to be different, both in the normally accepted society as well as in common thinking.

I already knew the history though.... :p. I shoulda said "why in this current age, would people still be insistant on dwelling or past accepted norms"

Most of all the times where those circumstances come into affect is due to fear of being different, outside the norm, to take a chance on the matter. Na, most people tend to want to be like robots/clones. They would rather be on the side that insults/teases/makes fun of, and even worse, then on the receiving end of it.

Personally (while i've NEVER had a relationship to have any REAL weight on the subject), the 10 year difference rule sounds reasonable to me. But i'd propbably prefer the 4-6 year rule better due to my age.

Being 23 (nearly 24 in a few months), if i were to extend passes 5 years, i'd find myself sitting in school parking lots.... imo bad idea, considering that those women are completely unreliable....... older would be fine though, but finding someone intelligent (aka, not insane) is a bit of a stretch. Can't help but glance over and see the number of fads rolled into one person only to realize they've got really not a **** thing worthwhile to offer, simply hot air... nothing more.
acceptable age of younger person = 1/2* older person age +7 years.

acceptable age of younger person = 1/2* older person age +7 years.

I was told there would be no math. :(
I knew a boy IRL who was in his teens.. he was playing L2 with an "online girlfriend" who was under the impression he was in his late 20's. Later I found out she had been telling him she was in her early 30's and she was actually in her 40s. ^^;; The internets are insane sometimes! ;)

o.O

IMO, 9 times out of 10, a 42 year old guy "interested" in a 19 year old is up to no good. ;/

Reading stuff like that makes me want to grab that poor girl and shake some sense into her! XD

Define "no good". He wants some just like every other guy. o.O
I honestly doubt the guy's you'll meet are thinking "hey! I like this girl I want marry her and look after her forever" *sheepish smile*
No. they're more like "I'm so getting laid tonight woohoo" *grins and makes a notch on belt*

Rocked! haha
Hi Romanova I don't believe we've met. Can I buy you a drink?
Sorry, I could never have a relationship with a girl that couldn't even buy her own drinks.

Granted the drinking age was 19 when I started but still...

I imagine they have many thought provoking conversations, though.

this is what's shockingly amusing.

while the norm or i should say accepted norm is for guys to be the one that yells the "woohoo" about those circumstances..

it's been 100% proven that it can go both ways very easily.

Alot of women also go "woohoo" when those circumstances end up in thier favor (or not) as well.

You're kidding?

I can understand if you lose all control and make a spectacle but a few drinks? Bah.
I'll say it right out, I'm 27. ^_^ GF..

My fav. show as a kid...HE-man. Haha. <3 Skeletor! I was 5 I believe at the time. My first computer game was Lode Runner. My dad was hooked on it too, anytime he'd visit...and almost 20 years later he me introduced to L2, haha. :) Fun times. Hubby plays too, but he's older than me.

Now off to finish cooking dinner..

I knew a boy IRL who was in his teens.. he was playing L2 with an "online girlfriend" who was under the impression he was in his late 20's. Later I found out she had been telling him she was in her early 30's and she was actually in her 40s. ^^;; The internets are insane sometimes! ;)

Rocked! haha
Hi Romanova I don't believe we've met. Can I buy you a drink?

You're a ****, haha. <3
Heck I'm married to a guy who loves me forever but I'm proud that he's always thinking 'woo-hoo I'm gonna get laid!'...if he wasn't, I'd be worried. :P

No wait...maybe that's me that's always thinking that. Heck, we'll go 50/50. HAHA... GF

I'll say it right out, I'm 27. ^_^ GF..

So, using feminine math, you're really 36. Gotcha. ;)
