I just made Gladiator and, having discovered Ivory Tower on the class change quest, I've levelled there to 42.
I'm using an ELS+3 in Brig+4 armour.
I'm looking at duals but can't afford to get it wrong as I don't have much money.
I see the blacksmith has a set of duals that includes an ELS+3 in the mix. Do I go for this and just buy the other sword from the shop and create the duals ? Do I just buy a high dc one handed sword or wait and use my ELS with DSS and save money and be able to buy something better later ?

Enchants on a single handed sword don't transfer to duals.
You need +0's first, make them to duals, then start enchanting.
I don't know if you have a clan or friends to back you up, but CG duals with an ELS or SOR in it, are far from top...but you can still xp with them of course.

I'm in no clan and play 99% solo. I play at weird times and being leader of a guild (clan) in another game, I like the ability to lose myself in the game with no commitment.
You say enchants don't carry through to the duals yet if you look at the blacksmith, some actually show +3 as the required item and others don't. Or is it that the resultant duals end up with one side as already enchanted ?
If I'm not mistaken you can make duals out of enchanted swords but you will certainly lose the + on the finished duals, seems kinda waste of money to me.

Thats true. If it's showing you +3, its just taking the value from your sword and putting it in there. If you were to use a +3 sword and a +0 sword to make duals, they would only end up being +0 when you made them.
For C grade when i was broke, i used dual Swords of Revolution. Made them +4 first try (dont count on this happening in your situation, never assume that they will work) for the Health SA. They did there job well, but the P attack isnt real exciting. Let's you use your skills though ::shrug::
IF you sell your ELS+3, you can make like 4-5 millions of adena. It's quite enough for low C grade duals crafting. You'll need 2 Sword of Revolution and some d crystals to craft c grade duals.
As for PAtk different, it won't be great. Soulshots price for top d grade and low c grade weapons is not higher. You spend like 33 adena per hit with ELS (11a per shot * 3) and you'll spend like 34 (17a per soul shot * 2) adena per hit with Revolution*Revolution.
What's more important for you is upgrading your armor. Selling your OEd Brig armor you'll have enough money to buy composite plate from Luxury Store in Giran and may be some low c boots, gloves and helmet.
Most valuable item in your current set is Brigandine Helmet. Don't hesitate to sell it for good price and upgrade main armor part instead. If you don't find good helmet, d grade one from Giran shop will do.

I always thought enchants were lost making duals.
If the Blacksmith is seeing the +3 on my Els, why does it only show on some of the duals available and other Els show as clean ?
Is this a bug or have we all been wrong and the enchants particular dual creations is maintained ?
One for the staff maybe ?
Well I tried a few things to test the enchants in the Blacksmith.
The Blacksmith in Oren didn't seem to make duals so I freighted my Els+3 to my arti in Giran.
The arti, carrying her Tarbar+2, was asked for swords without any +3 or similar in any sets. So I then wore the Els+3 and the Blacksmith once again asks for an Els+3. Only in some sets. Then, wearing no weapon at all, the Blacksmith still asks for the Els+3.
There's clearly a bug here. Do I tell support or do they see these posts ?
I can't test this on any other server or the PTS as I don't have the money or items to replicate it.
