Greetings, Bartz. I am new to L2, I just bought the game today and have only played for a few hours today, but from what I have seen the game looks to be great. The graphics are wonderful, and so far the gameplay is good. I wish I could stay up later and play, but alas, work tomorrow.
I was reluctant to try L2 at first. I've played WoW, EQ2, EVE, CoH, CoV, AA, and GW. Off of that list the only game I play is GW, and I play EVE off and on. I have really been pleased with what I have played. WoW sucked, plain and simple. EQ2 was fun for a while and much better then WoW, but it always felt like something was missing... everything felt like it was spoon fed to me... I just didn't like it in the long run.
I know I haven't played L2 for any where near long enough to make a decision of rather or not I will stick with it. But from the short time period I played today... I have a good feeling about it.
I can't wait to join a clan and start meeting some cool people.
To describe me as a player; I would say that I am laid back, very nice, and I like to stay in character. I have read that RPing for L2 is hard... But I can't see why... There seems to be a nice collection of Lore, and Myth about the Lineage world. I haven't been much of a PvPer in the past.. But maybe that will change with this game =)
Ok, well I will stop boring you with this extra long 'I'm the Newb' thread. All I have to say is I'm glad I decided to try L2, and I look forward to meeting you in game!
Greetings and welcome to L2 and Bartz. I am the clan leader of my clan and we are recruiting new players. At this time we prefer brand new players.
I must, at this time, warn you that we are an adult clan and as a result we only recruit adults. There are several reasons for this. The biggest one is that I have made it a rule that in my clan you must use Vent. We use Ventrilo for all of our communications. Because we are adults, some of our converstations are of a nature that forbids children to be present. If you are interested please send me a PM through this board and we can continue our converstation there.
I hope you stay with L2, I have been playing for over 2 years now and so have most of my clan members. We are not a large clan but we do have fun. Most of us are on the US East Coast.
I am fairly new myself, my highest is a level 27 assassin, it's pretty lonely leveling up and to be honest people don't really group a lot, spamming shouts can be annoying when 10 other people are spamming WTS blah blah blah almost as bad as WoW trade channel in some towns, and people usually miss your shouts. Newbies are rare and you will usually feel completely alone when running around the world, most people are 40+ it seems. The occasional low levels usually have pet heal bots and buff bots while they PL themselves.
The PvP isn't as bad as WoW at all, no more invisible rogues camping you all day!
If your looking for someone to level with PM me, I'm thinking of making a Dwarf and it's fun to duo! If you like, you can also join my clan we have very friendly and helpful members. Clans are much more rewarding then just having a <Guild Name> above your head.
If you played WoW (like me) you are probably used to jerks, but in this game the community is MUCH nicer.
I also tried EQ2 and it did get stale fast.
Getting new gear in L2 is a huge thrill because every piece of armor and every weapon has its own look.
Be warned that the healing mystics are like soloing as a holy priest with zero nukes. So if your going to make a buffer/healer make sure you can group with someone a lot.
Up to 20 anyone can solo easy, but after 20 the challenge increases due to D grade gear being needed. Spirit and soulshots become much more expensive, casters have it hard after 20 unless you have millions of adena. Fighters are much easier to start with.
Oh yes...be prepared to grit your teeth while bots steal all your kills from 1-20, they are EVERYWHERE with names like JFLA2G.
Well hope to meet you someday! This game isn't perfect, but it is certainly better then WoW.
Thanks for all the warm welcomes. My character is still pretty new, I have been pretty busy at work lately. This evening I am hoping to get some more leveling in, I am only on level 6.. lol.
Zak, I agree with you on weapons and armor, they all have their own distinct look and they look awesome. The only thing so far I don't like about the game is the **** bots. They are every where, and you are right about the names... ASGDfds, lol I mean WTH. Devs should do something about that. Reminds me of EVE online, we would run into macro miners, then we would just blow the hell out of them... haha, good times.
The macro miners in EVE are pretty much the same chinese "organizations" you will also find in Lineage - we call them "farmers". Once I came across a macro miner with the name LineageNA, protected by a chinese.
It won't take you too long to get 20, maybe a week or less if you play 3-4 hours a day.
After 20 the bots basically disappear so you won't have to worry about that later.
Make sure your second character is a dwarf, I learned that they are the only class that can make money fast, I made a mistake of not making one and now I'm hurting for cash.
The manor system is useless 1-20, your reward is equal to what you payed usually, unless you feel like running all the way to Giran to sell stems which are usually around the vendor price. After 20 start buying golden coda seeds they trade for mithril ore, and you can sell them for decent cash in Giran.
