LOL, I watched a conversation where every other line was a LOL or a HAHAHAHA or some form of it. LOL, it's like watching an interview on TV and have of the sentence is "you know" and it occurs at every third word. LOL.
So do you LOL at every other line?
Just curious because it seems I see it more and more often but also I'm now looking for it.
What do you think about using LOL every other line?
One of my co-workers actually says "OMG" as a part of her regular speech.
As in, instead of saying "Oh, my God(dess)!" she says "Oh Em Gee!"
I want to strangle her with the shoulderstrap to my purse.
... though, more OT, slang from one generation to the next always drives people batty. Can you dig it? You savvy? You dig? You grok?
Speaking of slang, in my other MMO, I've adopted a mix of Irish slang and the "cant" from Planescape: Oblivion for my RP character... and, as it turned out perfectly, absolutely no one understands a word I say.
The first time I ever heard someone say those internet abbreviations or symbols out loud, I thought they were crazy. Like "lol" or "kee kee" or even " ecks-dee".
When I find something funny... I laugh. Whether or not I use LOL and/or emotes a lot mostly depends on the people I'm talking to. I have a tough time keeping my English in its original, clean style when I'm around people who don't speak good English. I have the same problem with my spoken German - I don't know why, but accents rub off on me. It's quite annoying.
i wonder if there is a market for giant hald-held signs that were shaped like bubbles and had things on them like "LOLROFLCOPTOROCTOPUS" and "XD" and whatever. know what im saying? just imagine people bringing them to work, then shifting through the pile of cards everytime you said something slightly funny, so that they could truely express themselves. like. whatever. dude.
edit: im trying to draw an ASCII image of a LOLROFLCOPTOROCTOPUS, its not going very well.

Ok...
Fly your trusty ROFLcopter and battle hordes of LOLLERskaters and LMAOplanes.
Instructions are in game, read for controls. OMGmissiles arn't supposed to hit LOLLERskaters and WTHbombs arn't supposed to hit LMAOplanes... IRL. Yes, this is indeed a parody of heliATTACK, have fun! ROFL!!!11
The funny thing is--I DO use these terms in class when I am teaching my high schoolers. Whenever a student comes back from bathroom pass, I say, "WB" or when I have to stop and do something I say , "AFK" I even say, "GG" when students answer questions right.
BUT, i am known as the weird teacher and I did win the coveted, "Teacher Class Clown Award" for 2005-2006.
I do it just to have fun with the students. I throw some urban speak in there too that some of my clannies use. Recently, one of my clan mates has been using the phrase, "You do YOu and Ill do me." Ive used that in class to great guffaws and chuckles. I even effect (or try too anyway) an urban gruffiness to the phrase.
I don't see anything terribly wrong with using the whole words... apart from the fact that it's slang for a relatively narrow margin of people (ie, MMO gamers)... but saying "Good Game" or whatever is, I guess, not so terrible when compared to saying just the letters.
Saying the letters (as in my "OMG" example) should get you horsewhipped.
I agree. That's just ridiculous. I, myself, am guilty of saying "lol", however (not the letters, I pronounce it - and I know *a lot* of people who do the same heh).
