Best Buy experience

so my two brothers and I were walking around best buy and i walked through the comp games isle like always

"Wow, look at all this WoW!" the shelves were stocked.
"Hey, where's all the L2?"
"i dunno, do they even have it?"
"They have to! >.<"

hang on.....

"Heeeere they are!"
3 lonely boxes of Lineage 2 in the entire store. i was tempted to buy them and give them away to people......
Maybe people bought L2 and 3 was all that was left? We can only hope...

*Edit - OT: walmart.com now carries the Epic Collection.
Let's just think of it this way. The reason there were so many WoW copies is because no one was buying them!

Ya... uh huh... ya, that's right!

:p
LoL, yeah. That was the type of sarcasm...I mean optimism that I was going for. :p
I have a similiar game buying experience but with the game cards, there is only one store in my city that carries them, I usually have to get the City of Villians ones, seeing actual L2
ones are very rare.
I had the same thing happen at a Best Buy, I went looking for l2 near all the similar games and could not find it anywhere. I figured they didn't have it. My husband works there so he looked it up on the computer and said they had 3 so it HAD to be somewhere. I found it in a aisle totally away from WoW and everything else on a bottom shelf.

Same thing here. I went and looked for the epic collection. Couldn't find it with the other online games. I eventually found it with other video games. I just moved all 5 boxes to their appropriate place.

I wander if Ellie did that too.

Ebay games(sp?), if I ask them they don't even know what I'm talking about. or if they do, it's a old and bad review.

When I do go to Bestbuy, I usely try to talk people into checking it out if they are looking at the online games section. but I can never find L2 game time cards, or even the epic collection for that matter. Always a ton of AA on the shelves, GW's and WoW.

Yeah I to got the CoV time card. in fact there was only 1 time card on the shelve, so I almost didn't even get that.

I have to admit, I don't do this. If they are looking at the box I try to engage them in conversation to see what they are looking for. Then I try to answer their questions as honestly as I can.

They usually are interested but balk at the open pvp. Then you get into the economy and that is another rough one.

I never try to dissuade but I am a big believer in matching the right person to the right situation. Whether I'm setting them up on a blind date, recommending a game or suggesting a place to eat.
good man sov, but still try to get more people here lol.
No I didn't, but that's because ages ago I worked in the Best Buy computers/software department and people messing with my "plan-o" drove me nuts XD

During one of our huge sieges I invited some friends over to watch.
They had a good time but after filling them in on the game said they wouldn't touch it with a 10' pole. And these are people who aren't faint of heart in real life.

Still, when bombard Harvard Square with all the L2 pamphlets I've made, all the while running up and down yelling... "I'm an Elf, I'm an Elf! Regen, Regen!" I'm sure I'll attract more players

:)

He really does this. I've seen it (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y40/jfencl/7999a603.jpg). It's quite embarrassing for the rest of us...

LOLOLOL

Holy Cow! You've heard of that guy too!

For people who don't know, this is a picture of a real person who dresses up in all sorts of peter pan and Blue Boy outfits. he has his own website.

It's kind of how I know that there is life on other planets and esp is real. If the universe can allow for the existence of this guy then everything else is a give.

As for me dressing up as an elf. I think the evidence (http://riverrock.org/NewPhotos/BWS2001/the-elf.jpg) speaks for itself. :)

That is the same thing I had happen to me today. I went to best buy, saw around 50 wow games, and like you, after searching all around, I found 3 L2 games.

And no, it wasnt cause people bought all the others. L2 had a slot for 1 row that can hold about 6 games. WoW had around 10 of these rows. Also, the last time I went there, around 3 months ago, in the same place, there was 5 L2 boxes.

I almost felt like buying the other 2 incase I wanted another account, But I figured if I still want another account in a couple months, those last 2 remaining boxes will still be there.
L2 gets crap advertising.

Its not on TV like WoW is
Its not in game mags
Its not on gamer websites.
You're probably right.

I don't know if they do it differently NOW, but when I did the shelves at Best Buy no one was really alloted a ton of space, it was just how many came in. So if WoW came in a shipment of 20 boxes, they were set up a couple deep for as many spots as it took. Games were only spread out (say 3 L2 boxes taking 3 spots) if the shelves were bare.

Blizzard stuff, for instance, always had such an incredible presence that I could easily fill a section maybe 3 feet across, from top shelf to bottom.

Some companies had reps that came in to personally stock stuff (like Leapfrog) and arranged their own junk but that was few and far between.
True but you have to keep in mind that stores are in the business of selling things.

I know from many years ago as a manager that I would not want too put many items on my shelves that I knew weren't going to sell.

I don't know how larger stores like Best Buy do it, but I would try to put a diverse selection on my shelves. However, items that I knew were going to sell and sell fast I have the most room. Items that were more of an attempt to show that we had diversity but probably weren't going to sell, were put in an obvious place but not given a lot of room.

Those stores pay rent per square feet. That merchandise is taking up that square footage. If they put out merchandise that is not going to move then what they are essentially doing is paying rent that is not going to be doing much for them.

If for some reason people were coming in asking for more L2 the managers or buyers would make the attempt to stock more of it.

WoW boxed is stocked on the shelves = poor selling :P
only 3 Lineage box = almost out of stock items :P

also, WoW = Burning Crusaders, hot new release so the store has to allocate better shelf for those hot merchandises, it also happened to CoH, Guild Wars, etc or any other big games that have just released.
I'm sure it's the same, but the supply and demand is worked out before it gets to the stores. So 20 WoW boxes vs 3 L2 are already plotted out well before anyone puts it on the shelves.
Yes, WoW has a new release, and it getting more attention. As I walked past a GameStop storefront they had a life-size stand up advertising in the window pushing it.

Time warp back to November, when I bought my Epic collection at a similar store. None were on the shelf, and there were no advertisement for it. I asked the guy who seemed to be in charge if he had any. He said, "Um, I think I saw that somewhere." And found a couple of copies in A DRAWER BEHIND THE COUNTER! If I hadn't been looking for it, I would have never known it existed. NCSoft definitely needs to do a better job with advertising and marketing.
