I just want to thank Heartfang for asking so many questions about the Warlock class over the past month, lol. I have read about every summoner post possible! I am about to hit 52 as a Warlock, and I do have a few questions about playstyle/equipment.
- I have just started summoning Kai in the mid 40's now that my dd spells don't work well. I tried aoe pulling, but just ended up getting myself killed, lol. I like the thought of melee'ing with my pet, but how exactly do I go about it? Do I pull single mobs? What color mob is best for a summoner, and how many can Kai take at 44? I'm also wearing Karmian with homu + shield, so I really can't tank anything. I know it will probably be easier once I hit B-grade.
- And speaking of B-grade, I am just totally confused when it comes to weapons for 52. I am sort of new (about 8 mil in the bank, but clannies help a lot), so I can't afford much. I know I want BWLight, but I can't decide between duals (sls?), an AoBA w/ health, or maybe even a dagger? I group with my clanmates a lot, but when I'm solo I only have my self buffs. As a Warlock, I want a pretty fast attk. speed since my cubics have a low chance of going off (right? haha). I don't think crit rate is really important?
Umm but that's really it! Now I just need to work on getting a better handle on my pet controls, lol ^^ Thanks!
I had karmian and dual stormbringer as C-grade equipment.
I went with duals tsu*tsu +4 and BW light for B-grade (still in B-grade). You could also go for avadon light since you can carry more stuff with that.
What mobs you go for depends if you use ss or not, fastest but most expensive is to use both ss and beast ss, cheaper but slower is without and then it's green all the way. Middleway is to only use beast ss, since it does the most damage anyway.
The summon will do the most damage (at least for me as a PS) no matter what weapon you use, so it will tank for you and that means put summon heals on hotbar if you ain't got it already.
I usually go for single mob, it's the safest way to go unless you want loads of SP ;)
best solution is for you to pull the mobs and use TP to tank for as long as you can. Usually 1/4 of the mob for me. Warlock is not an AOE summoner and the fragile little cats won't last long, do since mobs for the most part. I recommend soloing a 4 mob room in a cata, green or low whites seem to work best though if you find non physical resist rooms you can do high whites and yellows.
PS has highest physical damage of the summoners but warlock isn't far behind. Get something reasonably fast though so that your cubics fire pretty well. I recommend light armor, doom in particular but warlocks aren't terribly bound by that.
yea, you will have to hunt single mobs. 2-3 mobs and you will have problems keeping your summon alive, if not properly buffed.
I guess you already know, but I went with an aoba health, and I liked it a lot. you can equip a shield, and tank realy well for your summon. I guess you can go with an dagger as well, but you will spend a lot more on shots, and you wont hit very much with a dagger. if you gonna use a dagger, use a kris/focus.
a small cata/necro room is what you want, with green/white mobs, if you can handle it, and dont have buffs. shouldent be to hard to keep going there for a long time.
Thanks for the replies ^^ I am leaning more toward the aoba and shield. I kind of think BWL looks funny on female mystics from the 1 picture I've seen. I wish more people wore it so I could see better! :(
at 44, my warlock was huning in the catas, green and white mobs, and my cata was tank. i only used Beast shots, and had duel raid*raid. and bind cubic up
and my cat could tank the whole room where there was a mass spawn. but we were fully buffed with prof buffs. but still the whole room of 8,
imo its easier if i tank and cat dps cause corpse life drain is still effective
cat will draw aggro after a few hits tho..
atm i have BWL, kris focus
since its my sub and i have other ways to get money (like main) i use both cubics and spam both ssb and beast shot for killing speed
got prophet and se buffs :)
with kai go for 1x mobs in open fields, your cats the fastest summon in game plus fields give you extra xp, if you have to kill 2x mobs be ready to use your body to mind or kat the cat because you'll probly loose mp healing and your not a class that is supposed to be resting.
Karmian gives you crappy mp so if i did grind with a cat I used Kat the cat instead of kai at the lower lvls, since he can regen your mp. Otherwise your nukes might stop lvling but I used my nukes up till lvl 50 and they lvl'd me faster than a cat.
I have never aoe'd with kai, pretty useless unless you have every casting speed buff to heal him fast enough since he has crappy defense.
Seeing summoners with duals makes me gag o.o You have nothing for patack or defense, your weapon is the cat and its a waste of adena or soulshots. If you must use a weapon get one with acumen on it and just act as a healer for your cat(I used a homu/acu until lvl 70) I also have a backup dagger(c grade dark screamer, cuz my dmg sucks anyway) just for attack speed to land my cubics. I've toyed with the idea of getting a health weapon for pvp, but i think that will only be useful for when im in oly IF im not healing my cat.
Imo every warlock should have a set of DC robes for the extra soloing mp not to mention the 8% pdef and run speed and if you end up pvp'ing in robes remember you have transfer pain so its not so bad, but if BW light is all you can get thats still awesome ++ casting speed
And I read above someone saying they tank for their summon o.o You are a Mage based class, your summon tanks and you stand back and heal.
at lvl 60, In BW light, woth ava shield and aoba HP, I tank about 5 times better then my summon. I can easy tank 2 mobs without even losing hp (vr3) if kai tanks 2 mobs, his hp is going down. if he tanks 3-4 mobs, he wil die unless I spend half my mana healing. I rather tank a bit for my summon, deal some damage (about 25-40% of the total damage) and I dont have to heal at all. hmm...whats better? kills faster, not have to waste mana on heals, getting more xp. OR, standing back, heal your summon, kill slower, less XP.
Im not my summons pet. we work as a team. both attack, I heal if I must.
Im sure this will change a bit later in the 70's, but I have heard of summoners that still does like I do.
I was reading a post where someone was explaining his "switches" from a nuker (1-40), to tank/extra dps (52), then to finally more of a support role for his pet as his summon became more powerful (61). I think that is a good plan, as my choices for BG is between Avadon Robes and BWLight (there's Doom and stuff too but I'd like a little extra cast speed). BW seems like the best choice for now. But I do plan on getting DC when I get to that point.
My clanmate has a sls*tsu he said he'd let me borrow but I kind of have a feeling I'll stick with my homu/shield until I have enough money to get something on my own. I will try the duals out though and tell you my opinion :)
