Is it just me or does it look like that game was rushed big time........ Most people I have spoken with about that game said it just plain sucks and its not worth an 18 gig install by far.
well.. its in off-topic now and still no replies so i guess none have tried it and atm i dont have 18 gig to spare for a game i barely know anything about
- The graphics are gruesome (at least those in the Dwarf region were). Low-polygon, uninspired stuff; they look "fake" even on the highest quality setting (which is nearly unplayable on my laptop anyway).
- The crafting & gathering system is very well done, at least in theory. No idea how well the crafted stuff compares to the raid content on higher levels, though - there's hope it's about equal. The whole crafting minigame actually feels like crafting, somewhat.
- Diplomacy looks and plays nice (somewhat similar to a collectible card game). Too bad it's against NPCs only, for now.
- You can run through mobs, NPCs, other players and a good portion of the furniture with impunity. Bleh.
- Your character is clever enough to auto-target someone who attacks him (provided you don't have any other target ATM), but too stupid to actually run up or even turn to the attacker and whack him in retaliation. You have to do it manually.
- Too much info. On about the same level WoW gives you - level of the opponent, buffs/debuffs on him and so on ... no element of surprise here, really.
- Man, that's one ressource hog. It even kills my L2 clients while starting (although GG might be part of the problem, too) almost instantly growing to more than 500 MB of memory consumption - and keeping growing.

Lineage 2 FTW as always!! :)
I dunno about that. I have 4 friends atm doing the Vanguard Beta, all 4 are former L2 players, and all 4 love Vanguard so far.
i played the beta quite a bit and it was enjoyable. the patching process is amazing, nothing like in L2. the devs are pushing patches almost daily for the beta and fixes problems fast. the devs will admit they ran out of money for development and are pushing an early release but the few weeks i played i saw sooooo much improvement in such a short time.
the one aspect about vanguard i really dont like is the amount of time it takes to travel places. it takes about 20 mins to run to the next large town for new quests/npcs. even if you have a horse mount travelling is very tedious.
ill be playing it on its release for something fresh. soo burnt on L2 with nothing to look forward to.
I played VG beta, even preordered it, because I'm such fangrrl for betas... and wishing I had that $50 back right about now.
VG is too much like EQ1 for my tastes, without enough of the things that made EQ1 such an awesome game. It's slow, the graphics are only "decent", and the combat is unexciting.
The crafting and diplomacy are cool... but not enough to save the game.
They included too many things from last-gen MMOs, such as race/class combinations, corpse runs, and slow, formulaic party-based XP tables.
It's everything EQ2 should have been, and, at the same time, everything *no* MMO should be.
