in recent times i have noticed a significant shift of sorts in the values of which a man should hold to his entire life...so i figured id get every one elses take on it...let a brotha know what you think a man should be an/or what complaints you have about the future leaders of our country.(usa that is)
The problem I see is we can't teach values to anyone anymore without getting jumped and told it's wrong. What's wrong with teaching values to someone without having the ACLU come and sue you? What's wrong with religion? I wish I was taught more values when growing up. Maybe I was but didn't listen because I'm supposed to go and "find out who I am supposed to be". Oh well, blame it on the media and television.

RESPECT!
Respect yourself, your family, friends. Im sitting here trying to not write an entire novel on this subject atm. Take it from a woman who has been down that dis road. Treat EVERYONE the way you want to be treated. Trust, love and respect are the most important things in life. And Im shutting up before I get ranting.
How about someone that keeps their word. Someone that accepts responsibility for their actions. Someone that makes mistakes and then owns up to them. Someone that lets their actions speak louder than their words.
i have to say i am right there withyou guys so far...respect,"maning" up and owning your actuions..things like this are all good qualiaties for a man to have..though i do see the flip side that even if some one had tryed to teach us this when we were young mabey we didnt listen and had to figure it outon our own...
this may be what the current generations are shooting for but it apears to me that they are falling short thusfar...
Values and religion are 2 different things. Im not at all religuos. But I am definetly not the violent type. Many of wars are fought for religous reasons. When I look at religion I see quite the opposite of real values.
The clarity to recognize fact from fiction, the compass to recognize right from wrong and the character to do what needs to be done even if there are others with less clarity and no compass demanding that you not do what needs to be done.
Those characteristics are not gender-related.
And yes, US leadership is lacking in that regard, but not in the way some of you are obviously taking your position.
I think most disfunctions we percieve today have been alot worse in the past. We are no more or less self-desctructive either. The only real difference is we have better technology now. In the US ayway, the excuses to be considerate would have to be more genuine than to be merely accepted into society as it had been in the past. In a free society the rotten apples will definately be more prominent, but not necessarily more abundant.
Personally, I think the definition of "Respect" given above pretty much sums it all up. Every crime, transgression and offense is an example of a lack of respect, somewhere down the line, for the life, liberty and pursuit of happiness of someone else.
