mana management

What do most of you Melees do to manage your mana? I try not to use any high drain skills unless i really have to.

But then i still find myself low on mana.
When i played my SK i didn't really had a mana problem, just used hex and banged the crap out of them.

Find the most useful skill and use that one only (unless sh.it hits the fan)
Sorry to ask but which class we talking Splatter? Each melee class has a slightly different cosumption, regen and skill mp usage.

Yeah this is true.

Percase, with my BD by the time I hit 55, I have no MP management problems unless; I have to deal with a SwS that can't sing at the right time. I only hex from time to time. not every mob. (but I also box a SE so if I have to I can recharge) But BD's get a MP regen passive, that also helps for recharge at the same time (same for sws I think, and they regen faster then bd's).

As for a Dagger, they relay mostly on their crts. So you don't need to do specials every mob. just do a duo. and if need be use VS but not specials, you only really need to use those if you got 6 mobs on you, or if your in PvP.

I think Tryants are a bit harder, because they relay on their totems for added bonus. charges and the likes.

Destros: I would think would end up some where between Dagger class, and Tryants. mostly just hit and hit, until you need to use a skill. their High dmg, they should regen HP nicely enough to not need to use skills very much.(as long as they have VR)

Tanks: no clue, I'd never play one so no Idea, can't help ya there.

Glads play simular to Tryants, but I'm not sure how their mp regen is.

WL's are a slow MP regen and have a small amount.
i never run out of mana
i use armor crush once then melee the mob to death (30 mp 350 hp cost)
sometimes ill use spoil 8 or 10 times per mob but even that doesnt run me out of mp :/
I know Splatter plays Orcs and if I recall correctly, dwarves. I will answer for how I play the Raider/Destroyer. That class has an accuracy skill that will suck your mana right out. I quit trying to use it after one or two tries. The Power Strike (and variations) will wear down on you mana. I managed this for a while by just using them in spurts, then not using them while my mana regened. More importantly, if you find some buffers to play with, you'll have very little mana problems. Their buffs for crits and accuracy will do way more than the power strike variations, especiallly as you level up and get higher level buffs. With their accuracy buff, it goes without saying that you don't need your own accuarcy skill. Also, when you have the buffs and heals, using other skills like Frenzy will be mostly a matter of choice, not survival. Finally, when you get to C grade and above, get a 2 hander sword with a Focus SA. This also helps your damage with ordinary hits. That's my advice based on my own experience.
I would think this applies to dwarves also, except for when they are using mana to spoil. Regarding Monks/Tyrants, I haven't a clue, as I haven't played one.
The only time I run out of mana is when a raid takes more then 25 minutes and the healers can't get my HP up, so that prevents me from B2M...

Well I had that happen once...yes once. In normal PvE with herbs, I don't even need elixirs, and no I don't use a Cheap Shot bow.
While playing a dwarf, I:
Either carry some SE around
or pray to have enough mana herbs dropping.
BHs can run out of mana pretty fast, it's not that "you spoil only the other mob" ... you ... have ...to ... spoil ... you must spoil everything!!!
Then you sit.
Don't spoil mobs that don't give worthwhile spoils, I guess - but yeah, it can be difficult. After all, ideally you'd want to be in a spot where everything has worthwhile spoils.
Yeah that too.
I try not to spoil, but sometimes my fingers are quicker than brain ... I just hitthe button. THen end up with 270 tiger's eye earring gemstones :-/
hehehe

I'm playing the Orc monk/raider and Dwarf classes. And i'm surprised by alot of the responses.

I figured you all had some type of secret mana management other then just don't use them unless you have to.

Well, my sub is destroyer.

"Just don't use them unless you have to" :p

Or.... hunt where herbs drop.

Just what are you doing that actually uses MP for those classes?

Seriously, they have so few useful skills that I seldom have MP issues with them.

Raider -> Battle Roar uses almost no MP for how long it lasts, and even if you use Rage as soon as it refreshes, that barely uses any MP for how long the recharge time is anyway. Thus you have only two possible ways to blow MP.

1)Stun/Power Smash. Both are pretty much a waste of MP. Stun doesn't land and breaks easy, and Power smash doesn't (currently) do anymore damage than a single SS hit. (And takes as long to run through it's animation as two regular swings anyway.) I never use these for more than an opener/finisher move which is once per mob. And if for some reason my MP is below the 1/2 point...I don't use them at all.

2)Accuracy toggle / Vicious Stance. VS is a waste of MP for a Orc. Never use this for anything outside of a Raid. As for Accuracy, it cost 1Mp per tick. You regen faster than it counts down. I often leave this on all the time and toss out a Power Smash/Fatal Strike every so often just to use some MP so the mana herbs aren't completely wasted.

Which leaves us with Dwarves.

For the Scavenger...only use your MP for spoil. If your a smart dwarf you will seldom need to use stun to get your butt out of a tight spot.

For the Artisan...what the hell else are you going to blow your MP on outside of crafting? Just stun away until the MP is gone then keep hitting like normal until you have more MP to throw away.

...ok, I admit you might have one more use for stun. If you have a pet your going to need to have some MP for stun to regain aggro if your pet gets it since you have no other skills at all. Although regular SS hits are probably just as good. In which case you only really need to stun and use MP if you lose aggro. (Or as an opener to set it.)

And as an side note: I do use a Mana Up SA'd weapon for my dwarves. This gives me more MP and makes mana herbs more efficient. Even though this does gimp my damage a bit more. (The weapon was a hand-me-down from my OL.) That and I run around without SS but with a Wind hatch for both of em for now. I figure the damage and expense is about the same as SS but in the end I get a Pet I can turn into a strider where as SS is just an Adena sink. (It limits where I can level, but so far it's been worth it.)
Well, for the orc raider. I end up using wild sweep at least twice with a war pick. I can't believe how much i end up missing using a pole!

So after two mobs i need to rest to get my mana back up.

...I'd drop the AOE until after you reach Destroyer unless you have a buffer or another pole user to party with. (And even then I think I'd forgoe a pole unless you get buffs or help.)

If you have that much downtime, taking mobs one at a time will be faster than doing a bunch then sitting.

I did 20-40 with a 1H blunt pre-C4 and with a 2H sword in C5. My one trial of the pole had me swap it with mammon after a short time. 2H Sword is hard to beat for soloing a Raider/Destroyer.
