a couple of newbie questions

Player Questions Started Last reply 20 posts
Hi there from Russia..
I decided to start playing LA2.. but after luring through E-net got still some questions need to ask before playing.
First of all i havent decided yet what class to play.. Im sure about being a dark elf (coz love this race).. so my choice is between AW and PK. As for archers< the best one is Elf archer as ive heard. so what are the pros 'n cons of taking PK.. is it better for me, playing solo take AW or PK??
Next. I cant understant lvling system of the game. I mean how does the lvling system work with the system of skills? Skill points are needed to learn skills or to lvl up? I mean, can I train all the possible skills (both archery and melee) before taking another lvl??
and the last question.. As I know.. game speed depends on the server, whether it is distant or not. so, living in Moscow< Russia< what official server should I choose?? Is it better for me to play european servers.. or it doesnt actually matter??

Thank you in advance.
the best archer is said to be human but tbh they all pretty much are good

basically when you kill a monster you get xp and sp
xp counts towards you total % to get the next lvl and sp is used to buy skills
when you die you lose xp only so if you die enough you will have enough sp to get all skills

i dont think any server matters for speed but i think the new euro server is the only one located in europe so that would be your best bet
Teon is also located in Europe.Franz is a very new server so if you want a developed market Teon is the server of choice.
And you want to be on euro server because sieges wont be in th middle of the night!
tnx all of u..
as about choosing server.. Im not quite sure.. if it is good to play on a new one.. with no economy actually but at the sane time - mith great promotion abilities or to join an old srev mith thousands players..
could u advixe me smth?
Since everybody is competing on Franz they tend to do it with some "shady" methods. So i doubt you can compete with them i would offer you Teon.

Atleat you wont wonder who is gonna craft that A/S grade for you. Also matts and items are low cost.
By risk of adding another Russian to out server, Hindemith serser is overflowing with Russians.
One of our major alliances is russian only. Dont know if they accept new people into their accademy. But I guess you have nothing to loose form asking in game or in Hind forums.

As for speed, Just check whatever server has the lowest ping.
Lowest ping = lowest response time = good
Leveling in L2 is 'automatic'. That is for everykill you get xp (and sp). As soon as you have enough XP, your character is automatically 'promoted' to the next level. All this does is increase your HP/MP and adds any grade masteries if you meet the level required. If there is a new round of skills for that level, those become available for purchase with SP as well.

For skills, the ratio of XP to SP is such that you will not be able to 'buy' all the available skills when they first become available. By the time the next 'range' of skills is available you will have 'almost' been able to buy all the previous skills or have enough for just a few of the new ones. You gain or lose nothing by not purchasing skills immediately. They will always be available for purchase as long as you meet the minimum level requirement.

Which brings us to death. When you die you lose XP but not SP. (And possibly gain the Death Penalty buff, but thats something else.) Thus if you wish to learn more of your skills sooner, the easiest (relatively) thing to do is die a bunch of times to 'farm' more SP. You can die up to 10 levels below your highest level with the only real issue being the Death Penalty Debuff. (And the time it takes to die that much!) If you drop more than 10 levels how ever, you will lose (without any other compensation) any skills that are more than 10 levels above your current one. Thus going from 32 down to 22 is 'safe', but if you drop to 21 you will lose any skills that you bought at L32 that were only first available at that level. All your lower level skills will be untouched.

Note however, that as you level up the SP requirements pretty much double every level of skills. The XP/SP you get for higher level mobs rises as well, but not by nearly as much. The XP requirements per level however, keep the ratio of XP to SP fairly in line for each level more or less.

Please note however, that skills are 'class specific'. Which just means that on the levels where a class change is possible, your skills will 'stop' if you level higher without changing your class. Thus it might be possible to have a L80 Dwarven fighter...but it will not have any skills or masteries above a L19 newbie dwarf other than the grade masteries and common crafting masteries which are automatic and apply to all classes. To learn skill at L20 (or L40) you need to complete the class change quests and 'upgrade' into your next class before your next round of skills becomes available.

As for a class to pick...try a few out. You get 7 characters per server, feel free to use them. Testing out similar chars is encouraged though, as it lets you 'share' equipment between them. Archers/Nukers are the most expensive chars to start with, but when you have their gear they are the 'easiest' to level. Daggers come somewhere in the middle, and then tanks/fighter and buffers/healers after with dwarves coming in last. Summoners are a bit different but fall somewhere between the nukers and melee depending on which one is being played. (Necro = more expensive nuker though.)

Finally, the only difference between the two 'Euro' servers and the others is just the time zone. (Affects siege times and manor refreshes.) Depending on what time zone you are in you may wish to play a server that has more convenient siege times for yourself. If both are equally crappy for you, pick a server that gives you a good ping....
Which should be exactly Teon and Franz since they are in Europe.
tnx again to all of u..
now I do understand everything more clearly..
learned that my vidoe card lacks memory (thought it got 128 mb but it got only 32))))) will need to buy a new one (if ma wife allows :o))) a bit of an off-topic question rises: does anyone know what affects gameplay more - video card memory or RAM? :o
actually Id prefer plauing on the server with less russians coz do not appreciate their playing tactics and chatting..
does anyone know.. are there pure korean or japanese off servers but in English, not in their native language?
Well therere are Korean and Japanese players here and there, but they got their own servers so they are not that common. Not native asian servers accessible to "western" market are not present. (Although bad rumors say it's chinese that rule NA servers economically :p you know what I mean...)

Gustin has few russian clans too, either in ally or standalone (or in 2 allies?), you meet them here and there, but it's not that you HAVE you be in their clans to play on that server.

As for game performance - video memory certainly helps to enjoy game more as this game is really beautiful in full details, but for smooth playing (even on low details) lots of RAM is necessary. Go for RAM first, 1 GB is optimal, if you plan to run 2 or even more clients on one computer rather 1.5-2 GBs.

does anyone know what affects gameplay more - video card memory or RAM? :o

It's a mix of both, although you can compensate for lower Video RAM with more System RAM to a certain extent.

If you are buying a new video card, 256MB of Video RAM is what I would consider the minimum these days. 512MB is starting to pickup a bit, but games do not yet take advantage of it that much. (A card with 512MB is a decent choice if you want to 'future-proof' things a bit though.)

For System RAM, 512MB is pretty much the bare minimum these days. I Strongly believe that 1GB should be the base standard however. The jump between the two is fairly significant enough that I don't see more becoming necessary yet. Not unless Vista takes off far faster than it has.

A bit of trivia here: The PS3 has 256MB System ram and 256MB of Video RAM, while the Xbox 360 has 512MB of Unified RAM. (Video&System) Neither has to deal with the bloated Windows GUI though.
computer 1: 128mb video, 1024 ram. (10,000rpm HD)
computer 2: 1024mb video, 4096 ram. (10,000rpm HD)
computer 3: 128mb shared video, 512 ram. (5,400rpm HD)

there isent realy much difference between 1 and 2 in lineage I must say. only major effect is giran doesent lagg anything at all. even with computer1, giran is playable.
Lineage is not playable with computer 3.
is not playable at all u mean??
or one may play with low graphics?
lowest graphics, and I had maybe 5 fps. in the FIELD. in town it was 0,00001 fps. so yea, its not possible to play, unless its a buff char or healer and you can play it with macros.

I'd assume that this is because the 128MB 'shared' video is stealing system RAM. So you only actually have (512-128=) 384MB of actual system RAM. And that means it's probably a Intel 810....which is a complete pile of **** for playing any games at all. (The 810 chipset has done more to cripple Windows gaming than anything else.)
GeForce 2 is considered to be the minimum required video card for LA.. so aauming Im takin' 1024 ram.. will i be able playing with it??
consirerin' deleveling got a question.. is it worth doing till Im 40?it consumes much time but does it have any practical profit? As I understand.. being an assassin i can take all the skills and use bows attaking mobs from distance.. switching to melee weapons then.
bows are expensive
the best reason to delvl is to stay in the ideal lvl range for a profitable seed (manor)
as for the manors I read FAQ for several times but still understand nothing..((
really hard to explain properly so i hope your english is ok so i can just give you the basics

you buy seeds from the manor guy in town
you plant those seeds in monsters near that town that are close to your lvl
you use a harvester (bought from manor guy) to get fruit from monster when it is dead
you go back to the manor guy and he will trade you mats for your fruit

thats how it works but there are very important details to get the most out of your time and effort
as a general rule you cant lose money while manoring so id say just play around with it untill you work out how it works
if you dont want to do that just ask and ill give you full explanations and tips

Good Lord NO! A GeForce 2 would utterly blow. That is a DirectX 7 Card. You don't want anything less than a DirectX 9 card. L2 might 'run' with that card, but it will suck harder than Paris Hilton in a home video.

nVidia isn't my preferred GPU vendor (They have been doing some pretty shady stuff since they started...moreso than the usual benchmark cheats pretty much every company has done at one time or another...too bad it's pretty much just down to ATI/nVidia these days.) But if you do go with them, don't settle for less than a GeForce 6. And avoid the models that say X MB of RAM but only Y MB onboard. (Part of the 'shady'ness I mentioned...)

If you go with ATI, don't settle for less than a 9550 card. Again this is a DirectX 9 card.

For either card, it's worth making sure you get the 256MB version. A 128MB would work, but since you can get the 256MB in the same price range, there is no need to gimp yourself that way at all.

It might get a little confusing with all the LE and SE other designations that both manufacturers like to tag on to the models, but you can get a good card for cheap from either GPU series at this level. Just poking around a bit shows a number of cards in the $45-$65 range. Which makes them either the same cost or cheaper than most newly released games!

As for the Deleveling question...It's worthwhile to do it once or twice on your 'main' for the SP and to hold your character back while you gather enough cash for your initial equipment. But after that it is better to only do that on an alt created just for that reason (to delevel) who will use your old equipment. It's not worth it to delevel in or below L20 though. The lowest I would go is down to L20. (Or L22 if you level the char up to 32 for skills.) Your leveling speed is too high and the drops for the levels below L20 are just too low to be worthwhile. And you can do the seeds that are 'sub 20' just as well at 20-25 as you can in their given level range if you are manoring.
