Dev Team's vision of races/classes

Mistryl i have a work for you :)

In response at "Tell the DevTeam about your class. Demon Part2 " thread, i would know how the developers see classes /races being played...

Can we have this, Mistryl, please, coz it's not the race/class description anymore. It was, perhaps, in OB or C1, but not now anymore.
I agree, it would be VERY interesting to finally read what the devs think are the "selling points" of the various classes, or simply, what according to them the "job" of a particular class is, and why they keep giving great skills to some classes and nerfing others.

It does not need to be anything big, just a list of the classes and what they think about each, something like "this is class x, compared to the similar classes y and z it is strong in this and that area, so we think that in a party it should have the job of this-and-that. We think it is a bit lacking in area a and b, so we will probably fix that in the future".

It would help us players figure out if the devs still live in the same world as us.

**** youve convinced me lol

im not even interested in the dwarf side of things for this just classes as a whole that really need explaining
se are pretty gimp
necro are fairly overpowered in most cases
prophets are far outweighed by warcryers and yet are amazingly powerful in the olympiad

basically what are nc thinking when they make changes
are the classes working as intended or are we just not playing them like they are meant to be played
The class descriptions for the third classes are the most recent that I've seen. I don't think the race descriptions have significantly changed since Prelude, and the ones in the character creation screen should be the most up-to-date. :)
Well, the in-game description of the Elves puts us as weak in both body and spirit, but we possess the strongest magic.

So... tell me again why NCS thinks someone would want to play an elf with a description like that?

thats great but the players arent playing the classes that way, and would like a reaction from devs addressing that issue.

of course its always the free will of a player to do whatever they want in the game, but perhaps that reaction that we are looking for might give us insight as to the reasons some of the drastic changes occurred in the first place. both boost and nerf wise.
according to the race descritions destroyers are using dual swords. i would like to see roles for classes spelled out for both PvP and PvE seperately, ie:

PvE temple knight: with low damage output and lots of hate and self-heal skills, you are perfect for raids, but since you will always be in the tank party you cant really get xp this way. but nukers and archers will love it when you give them 98% of your hard-earned xp.

PvP necromancer: welcome to calvinball. all of the major debuffs, the best summon in the game, a nuke that is on par with classes that are supposed to nuke for more damage than you, and a couple skills that combine to give you infinite mana. but you will probably only need 1-2 skills in any given PvP situation to kill an entire party.

PS: (couldnt resist)

PvP hawkeye: you only have one skill worth using, its called snipe. dont worry that it doesnt allow you to move, since your uber ranged damage from a normal attack also works at short range. but you can only carry 353485y35 CP potions, so use them wisely!

Strongest magic? Orcs now have the best buffers. Of course there are a few little things here and there that they don't have... yet.
Calvinball! I vote for you to do all the class descriptions, do bishop pleeeeeeease? LOL
PvE bishop. you are hands down the BEST healer in the game!! no one can match you in your uber healingness!! unfortunately, due to the fact that the ranged/dd classes dont need healers in party (they never get hit), and the melees cant survive in a party without VR regardless of how much mp you have, you are effectively a useless xp leech. dont worry though, becasue you can always solo for that xp. in C5 we even added hp/mp/might/emp/haste/focus/ww pots, so that you can solo(with any weapon but a bow or polearm) twice as long before resting! some of these pots are even more effective than a bishop's best heals, healing 100% of lost hp! and they drop off every other mob! so what are you waiting for, go get em tiger!

I have found the descriptions that they give are incredibly vague and not very precise. I would love to see them do something similar to what players have been doing here on the boards.

I don't think the developers have developed there sense of humor to that level.

That would be an interesting Q/A if the Dev team were to answer the questions in that thread.
lets put it this way, think of your character as a hammer.

now think of yourself wielding that hammer.

NC says, use the hammer to hit a nail. YOU say, im gonna use this hammer to cut down a tree.

no matter what NC replies to you in any Q/A thread, they will always base their points off of the decision to use the hammer on a nail instead of a tree.
Kingdom...do silver ranger now :):D:D::D

(bishop one was aweomse, just forgot to memtion that they are just needed for ally res at end game :)
Destroyer and warlord would be nice to see while your at it.(dont have to, but they are funny)
if i said what i think about an acher class in PvP (other than HE) i think people would be displeased with the dryness. the truth is that they have very balanced skills, the reason why they are gods in PvP is becasue bows make everyone a god in this game, and they are the most skilled at using bows. it is OBVIOUS that this is the case becasuse archers NEVER use their skills, due to their normal attacks doing insanely more damage and costing mere pennies of mp compared to skills.

PR & SR (PvE): these classes are moderately fast, with long physical-damage range. you can kite most things in game but then again most people just stand in one place becasue mobs hit for pancakes compared to what a ranger does to them (or becasue they are powerleveled noobs). unfortunately it is almost a universal prequisite to get your money offline, to be able to afford even a basic weapon for this class, since their weapons are so overpowered. if this is your first time playing L2, ask nolerahl for advice.

PS: that one kind of kicked the humour out of me, ill have to do warlords another day.
warlord and sorcerer (PvE): these are the best area of effect classes in the game! they can get the most uber xp of any class, so long as they purchase 8 other game accoutns to act as out of party buffers/healers/rechargers. in fact, the xp these classes got was SO uber we needed to nerf them, but they have very few skills so this was difficult! then we came up with a very creative solution. we decided to nerf AOE itself! now when a group of mobs is standing really close, there is a limit on the number of mobs you can hit with AOE attacks! we even gave ourselves an award in brilliance for this nerf, it was so creative. upon recieving this award we like to thank the madness beast, the pombies, and everyone at ancient battlegrounds for their kind words and support, we couldnt have done it without you!
my take on the current class descriptions (these are corrections to what NC hass said to describe each class) in general, id like to say that its really not enough to just mention 1 or 2 of the skills a class has, and call the description done (the TK is a great example of this, it says something like TK has storm cubic and life cubic). if i want to know what skills a class has i can look them up on the skill lists, and each skill there has a description of what it does. people who are going to be reading class desriptions are looking for what class to choose (not what skill), they want to find one description that excites them or accurately describes their playstyle.

warlord (PvE): poles are not long-range weapons. it has a slightly longer range, but its still a close-combat weapon.

warlord (PvP): "The Warlord demonstrates his power most effectively in groups, such as during siege battles." at seiges were everyone uses a nuker or archer, warlord is useless.

... there is no salvaging this. devs should just rewrite it all, including playstyles/roles for pve and pvp, and factoring in the latest added skills. its probably not a priority in korea since i bet Everyone there knows exactly what skill SEs get VR4. but in NA, with new incomming players that caught on 2 years late because word of mouth is not an effective marketing technique, they need a little bit more.
prima guide has much better descriptions but they're just as outdated. there's no mention of necromancers having a nuke, and cancel was a skill that removed only debuffs (not buffs)?? also not salvagable.
So far, I found the descriptions of class from the grandmasters NPC pretty accurate. The skills descriptions on the site isn't enough for someone who doesn't know the game well.
When I started in open beta, I was a human fighter and my gf a human mystic. She didn't want me to go knight because knights had healing skills and she was the healer. We realized later that a knight wasn't a healer and that knights had perfect skills to protect a healer :)
I also realized that warlord was my style anyway (and that bishops were well suited to heal a warlord), even if I like knights, so it's all good.
you bring up a very good point. new players often come to the game in pairs or even more sometimes, id like to add another section for each class that tells new players what other classes they best work with.
For the new players, or those who want to research a class at a glance, have some graphs or ratings that offer some basic information about the class.

Taking the Swordsinger as an example, these "quick references guides" would be something like:

Soloability: Low
Damage Ouput: Moderate
PvP Offense: Low
PvP Defense: High
PvE Offense: Moderate
PvE Defense: High
Primary Role: Party Buffer
Secondary Role: Defensive Fighter

.... or similar "snapshots" like the above that describe the class' core metrics at a glance.
awesome idea! there is actually something similar in the first couple pages of the prima guide and most of it is still accurate. rates with a 5star sort of system. but it rates roles for PvE and effectiveness with certain weapons. looking at it again i think "damage output" should be broken down further into "fullbuffed damage" and "selfbuffed damage".
