Newbie question

Player Questions Started Last reply 15 posts
I just started playing Lineage 2 two nights ago with my gf. We are both lvl 9 elves and wondering where we should head off to lvl next and at what lvl? We play together, so the experience seems to be cut in half for each mob. However, we kill twice as fast. Both mystics.

I read the new player faq, but it was pretty general. We have played other MMOs before, so just looking for some direction.

Also, is there an auction house somewhere to sell things?

Light or Dark Elves?

No auction house. Also, except for some base mats, no one will want the items that you will get (you might get a recipe for D shots... someone might want that).

Once you get into D grade (lvl 20) then you might get some drops people will want. You can set up shop in Dion (that's how this game's economy works, you set up a shop.

As far as leveling. The idea is to get xp "fast". Don't worry if the xp is "half". fast with as little downtime is the way to go.
For levleing, just hunt mobs that have "white names" when you click on them. White means that they are close to your level. Green is slightly less than your level and the shades of blue are quite a bit less and have an xp penalty. Pink/red mobs are higher in level.
i think that a duo of mystic can probably even hit Dark reds.
They will not have dificulty hiting that.

Cheers!!
Open you map (alt-m), or talk to Newbie guide in town to get information about quests available to you. Some of them are really rewarding, and can lead you to hunting grounds doable for your levels. Stratics (http://lineage2.stratics.com/content/library/quests/index.php?view=loc) also has very good quest compendium.

As for materials: Basic materials (animal bone, stem, varnish, animal skin, iron ore, oriharukon, Stone of Purity...) - KEEP THEM! You'll need them when you will try to craft something later. Getting 2.700 animal bones to craft C grade weapon is not that funny ...
Which leads to another fine way to get materials and earn money - manor. (http://lineage2.stratics.com/content/features/manorsystem/) Might be a bit confusing at start, but it really isn't, you get into it pretty fast. Talk to your local Manor Manager guy in village, hopefully castlelord on your server was able set it up.

As for key materials (those that are key parts to craft item, it's written in description), just dump them to the shop. It's not worth to care about lowbie items in this stage of the game, real crafting starts with rare D items (mostly armors).
Shops are in each town, you can recognize them by symbols above door or take a look on map.

And there are 2 types of levelling in this game: one is for XP, other for adena. It's hard to combine them together ... just keep that in mind while levelling, so that you do not end up being level 30 with No Grade gear, 3.000 adena in pocket and unable to kill anything ;)
We are light elves. If I was to reroll as a dark elf, can we still play together? Not sure if this is factioned off like world of warcraft.

The shop sounds like the bazaar function in Final Fantasy XI. I sold varnish last night to a vendor -.-

We had started as mystics, but after looking at the different classes...am thinking of starting over as a dark elf so long as I can still play with my gf.

Thanks for the good information!
There is no real enforced "factions" like wow.
Of course if you read up on the stories behing everything elves and dark elves dont mix.

The only annoying thing is: if a Dark elf is in elven territory and uses a scroll of escape (soe) he will get ported to DE town, not Evlen town. Same thing applies the other way around.

If you lvl in another starter town (tp there using free newb tokens) you guys wont have any problem leveling together if one of you guys is a elf and other is a dark elf

Is this technically correct?
I always thought "green" was essentially "at" your level. "White" was slightly higher, "yellow" higher still, and "red" significantly higher. While only "light blue" and "dark blue" were lower.

As for op's point about leveling together....it's just not very efficient at lvl 9. Sorry, but when the exp from a mob you kill in one shot or two swings of a sword is "125 exp"....it really isn't helpful to just get the 65 exp (1/2) paired with someone else.
The early mobs are designed to be killed VERY quickly solo. Even with poor apprentice weapons and newbie shots.
I'd think you could level faster solo than paired at the very lowest levels.
They are, it's best to solo if you want fast exp but if you don't care about that (sometimes it happens XD) duoing it still fun

Sometimes, people prefer leveling with someone they play with from lvl 1 to 99. We have played numerous MMOs together and the starting lvls are always the worst...but it doesn't matter when you are still having fun.

I appreciate all the feedback. I am so anxious for work to get out so that I can start a dark elf.
Difficult at lvl 9. You'll have more fun together but the exp/sp rewards are slight at that level. Make sure you use the Newbie guide's magic assistance buffs at each level change and pick up all the magic potions that drop. They can help a lot especially the magic ones whos buff icon looks like a blue leaf.
If you want the best and quickest reward I would hunt as a pair and move away a bit from your village and search out yellow or light pink mob. Stand slightly away from each other and try to slightly stagger your windstrike attack so that each hit causes the mob to faulter. This will help stop it being able to have time to launch a magic attack on you.
If the mob is something quite fast, be ready to back off a little after your first strike to keep a safe distance and so your skill has time to refill.
When you have a little money, your primary purchase should be a better weapon. M.att is the main stat you are interested in. Using a shop, you can exchange non grade items up to a better item with some adena and the old item in your bag.
Just about all recipes you get you can sell to the shop unless they are for soulshots/spirit shots or a material such as any that mention mold, braid, cokes etc.
So, solo hunt, go for whites or light greens until your power is stronger.
Duo hunt, go for white, yellow and light red. Yellow and light red for best rewards.

Further to that, any golems you see, regardless of colour ( except bosses) are slow and easy meat.

Duoing is always fun with the right partner, no matter what partner you have you still get a good experience from it. :D

Slow, yes, but they have high m.def which makes them not worth killing. Same with zombies. Both launch magic attacks, and especially the zombies hurt if you don't have good m.def.
This is what I did when I started two dw togeather (yes I 2 box) team them up kill without using shots you will level pretty fast, then when I started doing my class xfer I broke out all those shots I hoarded, it will give you a nice boost in your low 20's when the mobs become a little harder to kill. Good rule of thumb I found is if you can2 or3 shot the mob between the two of you and mob color is green white or yellow you are doing fine and by alternating on 3rd shot or couple of melee hits (got to pick up your swag anyway) you save on mp/less breaks.

if you are just wanting the company don't party and just hit your own mobs.
Also use those free tokens you get to TP from the newbie guide. Running from Dark elf village to the Light elf village will be a drag. Grouping with any race or class is possible in this game.
