Reverse engineering the fishing tournament...

General Discussion Started Last reply 6 posts
Greetings,

NOTE : This is a "black box" analysis of the event. This means it is an outside view of the system. I am given basically just as many tools as any of you folks, and I have to figure out how the system works by my experience with the system. This remains in the field of opinions, but call it an educated guess...

This is a SS of a "Ranked" fisherman. I didn't want to overpower IT, just wanted to show you what I can do... (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v436/darkmotion/rank5fisher.jpg)

Ok, after over 500 instances wich I have not compiled yet officially, I have noted the following observations about the Fishing tournament :

- The area you fish has no bearing on your results (This is very disappointing, but not surprising).

- Make sure you use prize winning lures, because they give a bonus on size and is the only way to get ranked.

- It's a roll of a die when you check yes on "catching something special" (a discreet message you have to watch closely). There is no time of day better, no moving around to avoid depleting spots, it's just a basic roll of a die.

I am a bit disappointed, because with so many possibilities, it seems this fishing tournament is just a stupid system.

I will continue to tally up my data, and will post my results later on. I will also be posting suggestions on how to make the tournament more exciting.

If you must know, my prize winning fish was a Small Orange Ugly fish, 92.968, caught at 12:50 PM, nominal value 257 day.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering if fishing at night had better results but then I pulled my biggest catch of the day a few tries after that in the day period.

I don't think your fishing level has a bearing either cos I pulled a couple of 91+ fishes with a lv 3 skill.
Nothing like a totally random event to give us the warm fuzzies!!

I think for the next even they should just pick randomly and drop like a mil in our WH.
Yeah, getting a good fish, or a great fish is totally random. But one thing that is good is that the more you fish the more opportunities you get. Someone could theoretically catch just 1 fish and win it all, but those that compete by fishing alot will have much better chance at winning, at least that's something positive i guess.
The best fishing would be to use an A or S grade pole, with fishing expertise level 1, Pumping level 3 and Reeling level 3.

Level 1 fishing gets you small and normal sized green fish. Which if you are using fish shots and an A or S pole, are 1-2 shots.

Using a green fishing potion and an A grade pole, I get a few one shots, most fish take two.

Too bad they don't sell High Grade Lures any more. I still have some and they cut the amount of time you have to wait for a fish to bite in half, compared to the Prize Winning Lures anyway.
Greetings,

Ahhhhhhh yes. You can grasp the quality of a fisherman by the quality of his/her comments. I also miss the high grade lures. And since the fishing tournament will be permanent, this means experienced fisherpeeps will only use these kinds of lures. (only day and night fishing lures now)

Ok I already lost my ranking (and a chance for that Mark of Eva) today, without much surprise. Wich brings me to things to make this event more exciting...

- After the first full day of the competition, each competitor who makes it to the rankings (as soon as you make it, you gain a bracelet of Eva). Fisherman guild members would exchange a certain number of bracelets for the special Mark of Eva hair piece.

- The max size of fish would be raised with each day of competition, even if the max is raised slightly it doesn't change the odds much. But it creates movement in the rankings, because you need more of that as the competition advances.

- Add items to increase chances to catch a Lunker. Fisherpeeps want to beleive. Make them beleive you can increase their chances of scoring. This works in so many ways.

I am still compiling my data, not making that public right now, but I can tell you I've caught a few 92'ers [923] !
