No Sheild; Are there benefits?

Heavy, light, or robe. I understand the benefits of a sheild but does anyone know the benefits if a sheild was not held?

Anything on no sheild use with the three types of armour I would be interested in knowing. Such as evasion.
There are a lot of korean video clips showing set ups without sheilds. Just interested.

Iknow the whole story about light but what about robe and heavy?
The shield drops evasion - there is pretty much no drawback in equipping it for heavy armoured and mystic classes since neither really evades anything anyway. That's it, though.

As far as heavy is concerned, mystics have worse MP regen in it (by about 20% - it's noticable), and in robes you cast faster than in light with the same bonuses.

That's about it I think, but I'm not sure what you are asking.
I think its the whole sheild thing. I wanted to know if a one handed weapon with no sheild was practical. Or is that just stupid :D lol
I do it, but only because I roleplay.

There is no actual advantage outside of style, and as an EE, there is no purely practical reason not to wear one.
It is deeply dependant on your class, playtyle and available buffs. My charcter for example, on most mobs (exceptions exist ofc) evades almost at the same rate as blocks with shield. This means that it is better not to use a shield, since 1 evasion makes up for 3-5 shield blocks. But when it comes to archer mobs, I always use the shield.
i knew a high lvl SH that considered no shield and +dex to be the ideal pvp build
youd have to do the maths on what works out better but depending on who you fight 1 evade could be equal to as much as 6 shield blocks
At higher levels, a shield will constitute up to a half of your PDef, especially against archers. Selfbuffed. And Agility is a joke as an EE selfbuff anyway.
looks like my shield is about 25% of my pdef but it wont work all the time
i personally think everyone but LA classes should use one but you never know

Does shield supply any p.deff ? Yes I know it blocks attacks but thats down to the shield's own stat and shield skills of the wearer.
Is agility the ability to avoid mob attack, basically making the mob miss ? If so, then any agility is good news especially for lower level fighters.

^^
A 'block' means additional PDef.

Half sounds high, more like adding half again over the base PDef one already has. :o

In robes or heavy? With or without shield buffs?

Generally speaking, yes, it's a buff that increases Evasion. And it was pretty decent in C1, but greatly nerfed since then.
For pvp, unless you are an evasion class then the shield is almost a must as no matter how high your evasion, you cannot dodge a skill. A lvl 5 can actually hit a lvl 78 Wind Rider every time he uses powerstrike.
thanks for the response.
I was curious about races and classes with high dex. stats or dex. boosts from tats.
I like the concept of evading rather than blocking. I also understand the benefits of a sheild when considering archer mobs but what about melee?

I mean its mostly about heavy and robe sets cause light armour i understand.
If you like evading, roll out a plains walker with +5 dex and a + evasion set, with a +evasion SA dagger. Aside from skills, nothing in your lvl range will hit you.(expecially with an evasion buff.)

lol I like other things besides evading, i'm not 1 dimentional :D
Say i am an EE in a robe or a SwS in heavy with a 1 handed weapon, no sheild, are there positives to that?
Maybe with the SwS as you get an evasion buff song, but As I have never played either, I would not be able to say for sure.
I think I may just be considering my options. Single handed weapon use in heavy or robe ought to have some benefits?

I think the best way for me to find out is probably try it out :)
I don't think many ppl have experimented with it.

I understood a sheild reduced your evade therefore no sheild meant better evasion.
For an EE, I think Adv Block + Bless the Shield > Agility, so go with a shield..
Mystics can not hope to evade on a regular basis - even with +DEX, even with evasion buffs. ~_~

thanks :D That helps.
What about a fighter in heavy/ one handed weapon/ no shield. Is there a class that could pull that off?
i.e. dmg. taken v evaded?
A SwS would want a shield as they have shield masteries from their days as a knight. I do not think there are any heavy armor wearers that wouldn't want a shield, the ones that might usually use two handed weapons (+dex Glad or Warlord).
SwS using 2-handed sword aren't rare. If you solo on green mobs with this setup... dunno, maybe evasion song will help.
SwS love 2-handers lol (I have an Infernal Master w/ focus and it is very nice). However, if they are using a 1-handed weapon they should use a shield too.

Song of Water only adds three evasion now so it doesn't help much. Even with the two hander and song of water+agility I will not evade very much but with a shield and bless shield I block pretty often.

Edit: I won't evade white/yellow mobs very much; as I am usually not solo I do not often fight greens.
cool.

I was very puzzled when I saw some korean footage of toons with one handers in heavy and robe sets with no shield.
I thought may be it was an alternative.

lol just realised i spelt shield wrong in the subject post. Such a dunst!
if you wear heavy and have a 1 handed weapon you use a shield
no questions asked you wont be evadeing anything either way

This is interesting but what will you minus? Con? If they can't hit you then no need for hp? And how well do mobs in your level range hit you? I'm curious about this setup.
