imbalanced mob exp....

what makes it a "good idea" that lvl70+ mobs (those ones in blazing swamp and forest of the dead) are giving less xp than lvl60ish (those in valley of saint) mobs ?
Well they give exp based on their resistances, their strengths, their skills, just generaly how much of a pain in the butt they are. The problem is that for classes like nukers and archers, the mobs don't really live long enough to cause much trouble. Whereas, for a tank like me, I am almost guaranteed to be faced with every annoyance a mob can muster up.
The mobs in VoS are a lot of trouble, naturally you don't see that if you two shot them but they are pretty tricky. I haven't seen all their skills but the Claw of Splender transforms into a panther sometimes, the blade of splender duplicates itself, wisdom of splender I think... casts a freezing flame type of thing, another poisons, most of them spam cast spells faster than any character can. That's where the extra exp comes in.
Whats most confusing about exp is this...

Lvl 40-60 you can get 10-15k XP per mob at EV.
Now try finding 15k XP as a 62/63+ ....
1 mob at vos tranforms into a kitty
removes your target and then casts hate on you
the mob then goes for stun and a cancel that has a 90% chance to remove all your buffs

i went there on my ws at the begining of c5 (75ish at the time i think)
a mob landed that dot on me and wiped of 3k of my hp while i was sitting with a ghp active
not sure if they nerfed that skill or not but on sub it took off at least 1.7k hp

fact still remains bs is gimp xp
doesnt matter what class you are you can always get better xp somewhere else
Blade also has UE... which is even better for a nuker (a mob delays its attack to cast an useless skill).
EV is multi-HP and has field bonus - a thinkably rare combination, to the great misfortune of melees.
Right, Claw does that. At 60 with BO jewels their nukes hit me for like 700 too. I've not noticed most of their skills because I 2 shot them but it's a close call should a nuke fail, or I get 2 aggro.
I could hunt the front of VoS nicely with a SwS and my prophet.

Resist Fire level 3, Song of Flameguard, Magic Barrier, Song of Warding, no zerk, and the place turns ... well, not into a cakewalk, but quite survivable. We only died after she ran out of SS and we couldn't control spawn anymore (shoulda PRed...).

But then, how likely a duo is PP/SwS? That place is messed up for melees.
Dunno... I don't even use shots when I trance them.
Yeah it is, the rate that they cast spells is breath taking. They cast so fast whilte one spell is still on its animation, they are casting a second.
Maybe because VoS is a NUKERS hunting ground? The place was designed to be insane for melees and good for nukers (mobs are spaced away of each other). And that freezing flame dot is equally bad for everybody.Maybe that DoT is the reason wisdoms are THE best Xp/Hp ratio mob ingame?
Why? VoS with ES and Destro duo was nice and safe exp. ES can heal decently if the need arises and most of the time the pony was taking the dmg so I could just smack around. I do hate the UE on blades but otherwise the place was groovy.

And I mean duo, no boxes, no clanhall buffs, just the stuff those 2 classes have +gsap.
Actually VoS is not the best XP/HP ingame at all, the best spot in game for XP/HP is in Forest of the dead... I found it kind of funny that you did type down that it gave bad XP.

However not ALL the places in FOD give good XP, some do and those places is just 100% impossible to get a spot at.

The FOD mobs is holy weak, low p.def, and give 7k XP in a party off 3 :P so you get it, they die in a few hits.
The Flame dot was nerfed, it does half the damage it use to.

The only real problem with going there with a melee group is the occasional magic crit.
at the back cancel is meannnnn to a melee
The cats cast real slow and it can be interrupted. It is very easy for an EE to Trance the kitty before cancel goes off.
Hmm they might have nerfed the XP with the nerfing of the DoT.I was talking about c4.Right now forgotten ancient ppl and dark shadow have best xp for the dmg.

With the new pots, my SK can solo very easily in VoS. But I get canceled very often, and that flame DoT, even if it was nerfed, is VERY powerful. And the mobs that multiply and use UE kinda put the brakes on what is otherwise reasonably fast killing.

The problem with claiming that VoS is a nuker area is where is an equivalent melee area? What solo area is easy for melee, and hard for nukers and archers that gives exp on par with range areas. Swamp of screams was obviously designed for melee, but it is so incredibly troublesome, and high risk, that no melee would bother. And they didnt even bother giving the area potion drops, pure genius.
Every cata/necro is a melee area.....SoS is designed for melee(clost together mobs/lots of mdef(more XP)) but NCSoft didnt make it right.

AND VoS is designed as a nukers area.Mobs are apart so melee has to run around but nukers dont get swarmed. And with the nukes those mobs have (and m crits) you DONT want 3 of those on you.

Every cata/necro is a melee area

Well dungeons are another can of worms. I was just thinking solo areas.
I didnt mean the 4xHP mobs Ecro.I meant the cata/necro design as a whole.Ofc i know its made for a group. But those tiny little rooms with all those social mobs. The point of a nuker is to kill mobs at range BEFORE they reach him.A necro/cata room nullify everything a nuker is.

none of which are good for a general melee character, such as a Swordsinger. Multiple, social mob are an AOEr's dream come true... but the general melee prefers controlled, manageable pulls.

VoS, though, with a healer/buffer behind me, is pretty sweet. Dogs nor kitties both stand up to a 'Slayer so well... must be their skinny middles.

Well yes they do want control, and managable pulls, but if they have to spend a lot of time running to targets, or waiting for spawns, melee groups get fussy.

alright, alright, I know you know what cata/necro are for ; )

Your original post just made it sound as if you were offering cata/necro as the melee area I complained the game was lacking. But I do see your intention now.

I am hoping they fix SoS in the future, but Im not holding my breath. I can see them adding potion drops, but I think it needs a LOT more improvement than that.
I'm really struggling to find a new hunting spot for my lvl 62 DA...

After XP paradise (EV) I went to Forsaken Plains. This place was not as good as EV, but it got me where I am now fairly easy. The only problem of FP is the freaking stun and finding a free spot to lvl.

But now after spending 6 lvls already in FP I want to try out a new spot. I went to VoS and I just couldn't manage it. I knew the trouble those mobs where but I still gave it a shot.

The first wisdom and I got the DoT flame thingy. I went to a Blade and actually they where 2 blades on top of each other so it turned out to be a 4 on 1 (well 4 on 2 since I had my kitty out)...after 5 mins and some 15 GHP pots after (stupid UE). I went to another mob...the other mystic type...and I got spell pwned (BO +0)...UD and more pots.

That was my VoS solo adventure at lvl 62.... I guess I'm back to Forsaken Plains until all the mobs are blue.
Yeah don't do VoS yet.

Devastated castle, Forbidden gateway, Frozen Labrynth maybe.
The OP is already at the top range of Frozen labrynth.

He might get one more level of green out of the Spiders in there, but the only mobs (which top out at 62) that will be white are the Yeti, Ursus and the Buffalo. And the Yeti is the only mob of those that does not split on skills or part of a group.
Ursus groups could be OK for a 62+ tank to handle, but they don't drop herbs, so without kitty it would be slow. And buffalos give really bad XP if you don't split them.
