Back when the raid happened, I was a radio DJ (on the air...). So I announced it on the air, and on MSN some users confirmed. You could not beleive the heat I got from those cheaters as I was laughing at them for getting busted.
Apparently L2 radio doesn't allow you to laugh at users (neither to announce real news). Howard Stern wouldn't have lasted a day.
So once again, gratz NC for protecting intellectual rights. Watch your wallet at all times ;-) Since the bust I have seen folks walk onto the boards here, openly claiming they were from this busted cheaters server... ROFLCOPTER !
While it is nice for NCsoft that they were able to tackle down private servers I could frankly care less about it and the news that they have taken one down is just "so so".
I have never played on any other L2-servers but the official ones.
I guess I am grumpy as I still lack the ability to play without trouble or play at all as I am a x64 windows user.
Maybe use the in my eyes wasted time for private server hunting for additional testing of client software for various Windows OS versions?

Dude, compatibility is not an issue. It's clearly listed what you need to run this game (and it's very easy, even with an old machine, to comply with the minimum requirements).
Private servers, on the other hand, actually "steal" money from NC (with stolen code). This warrants that you hunt down perps because they are stealing from you.
"Maybe use the in in my eyes wasted time for private server hunting for additional testing of the client software for various Windows OS versions AND securing the official servers?"
There I fix it for you.
(Btw I do not like it as a fact that the code was stolen in the first place. It gives an impression that security was handled last when this game was developed.)

Dude, you do realise that you corrected your own text, not mine.
As for your impression that security is lacking, well you are wrong. If something gets stolen, it's because it has value, not because of a lack of security.
What you must understand is that some folks do whatever the HELL they want to on the Internet, because it's still not regulated. It's WAY over your head, but I'm still here to humor you, wich is called customer service.
So, is there anything else I can help you with today ?
"The FBI shares information about the recent shutdown of a Lineage II private server. NCsoft continues to be diligent in (...) making the game enjoyable for our players."
What I don't get ... how is the FBI shutting down some IP violators in any way related to making the game enjoyable to its players?
This looks more like some meaningless bit of PR phrasemongering than news to me.
There are tons and tons of people playing on those servers too, every single random person that comes to my site asks which private server I'm playing on, or asks what we pay. But we beat this horse to death over and over before so Im gonna stop :)

Are you actually suggesting that it was the NCSoft developers that did all of the leg-work to shut down the private server? Do you have a clue how police work is carried out?
They did a lot of legal legwork before hand, if it was so simple for gaming companies, you'd hear private servers being shut down all the time...those they can shut down that is.

It is actually NCSoft GM's that went and raided this guy? I can see them running in with guns blazing.. TAKE NO PRISONERS!!!
NCSoft spent money and effort on it, which could have been funneled into testers and QA work instead, like fixing the GG which has already been updated to run with x64 an Vista, just not for L2.
You know **** well everyone has to pick their poison so to speak. You can point to anyone doing anything, like feeding starving children in Africa and scream YOU COULD BE HELPING HOMELESS HERE ZOMG WTH.
I seriously doubt anyone had a meeting and said, should we put money into QA OR.... raid this private serve set? Hmm.

Well, yeah, but the lawyers aren't exactly programmers, and thank god for that. Could you imagine a computer language for lawyers?
Your honor, I would first like to begin by citing as precendent the case of "Standard vs. Iostream".
In this petition, the court is asked to execute a primary function (hereafter known as "Main") in which upon supply of an Integral value (hereafter known as argc) and a collection of String values (hereafter known as argv) said function shall present unto the court an Integral value.
I. Main
In this capacity the honorable court is requested to perform, as per the previously cited Cout, a write to the console of the string literal "Hello World!", followed by a newline as per the Endl procedure.
Upon completion of these tasks, Main is asked to render unto the court the Integral value of zero (0) at which time Main shall be deemed to have completed successfully.
Someone had to pay for drawing up the legal documents to prove that it was a case for the FBI to go after. If it truly was so simple and didn't cost much, NCSoft would be sending the FBI after servers every week and so would other companies.

Perhaps it's different in your country but most corporate lawyers are salaried. They would've gotten paid regardless.
Plus no one in their right mind would go after private server(s) unless they knew they were making mad cash that should have been flowing to the company that made it. No one is going to shut down one that 10 people use...
For most games there are still plenty of very large servers out there, and if NCSoft was hoping for a scare effect, then just closing down one won't scare anyone, closing down 2-3 large ones would.
LordChaos666
it's not the first one they closed they closed few months back a few server to
anyway whats up with the prive servers people are only their becose it's more easy and no it's not fun that anyone runs with +20 stuff
THE sad thing about all of this is you cant post a comment denouncing NCSoft in any fashion. I am sure all posts will be deleted and probably get the poster banned from the boards. pfft.

Oh quit your crying. There are plenty of negative posts that don't get deleted or get the poster banned. Man up, Nancy.
OMG! look at my denouncers!!I got a few choice words for the both of you but then again I know NCSoft will have a bo*el movement over that.(notice my self censorship)
my gawd...how do you guys stand the smell with your noses so far..... urggg......ahem
It's pretty much all about your tone. Constructive calm posts stand much less of a chance to get locked or deleted than those which are not. If you come in here throwing a fit like a 2 year old, yeah, that's not gonna work.

There there, you poor victim.
Ahhhhhhh, empathy...
I was tempted to say : The people who replied to you are the ones that know how much intelligence has value.
i readed the artical it says the dude got 50,000 user's on his iligal server thats kind of much witch i almost cant belive some pirate can handle on his own
anyway i dont not realy understand the face

The term is derived from the actual cyber criminal act.
You see, what you do is steal an ASP's (or application service provider) code and setup your own server.
Then you redirect the IP from a valid client to a "hacked" server. Poof ! there is your cyber crime. You basically steal the intellectual property of someone and use it for your own gain. Once in a meeting a threatened the peeps to just make my own radio station. Then they got all rowdy and threatened me back with yeah but NCSoft are our friends are they wouldn't like you doing that.
Thing of it is, how ever many instance of this kind is perpertrated against NC and other MMO gaming companies, this [923] got greedy and tried to make money off it. That's why the police went after him.
