bha 5k rep points... :/
our clan will get to lvl 6 tonight, and I was kinda hoping to be able to get a royal guard today already, but i guess we will have to wait a bit for that :/
Does Royal Guard unit do anything special, other than just opening up 20 more spots in the clan??? Is there an advantage to being the leader of the Guard unit? I wish there was more to read on this subject. The Clans page leaves lot of information unspoken, I think. :/
The leader of the royal guard units and knight units have higher ranks than regular members and the members of the unit have lower ones, that's aobut the only difference.

Yes, that's pretty much how it works. It is only about the rank. If you do not consider heroes/noblesse players, the clan leader is the highest ranked player in the clan, followed by the leaders of the royal guards, then the leaders of the knight units. Below that are the members of the main clan, below that the members of the royal guards and knight units. So you usually put the highest lvl/more important players in the main clan, and lowbies or very casual players in the guard units.
The rank is important because it influences which clan skills a player can use. If you look at the description of the clan skills in the library section here (or in the C5 patch notes under "news"), you will see that many of the skills do not work on players in the guard units, or even ONLY on the clan leader, noblesse players and the guard unit leaders unless your clan is lvl 7 or 8. That's why you should put players who can benefit from clan skills (e.g. archers and clan might) in the main clan and not in the guard units.
are you sure? if the clan is lvl6 then it is lvl6. no mather what unit you belong to.
No, I am talking about ranks. Look at the library here, under "clans". For example, if your clan is lvl 6 and you are in the main clan, you are rank "knight". If you are in the royal guard unit, your rank is "heir". If you now go and buy the clan skill "clan might", it only works on people with rank "knight" and higher (you can see that in the skill description or here on the web site under "news"-"latest chronicle"-"c5"-"clans"). That is, people in the royal guard unit will not get the effect of that skill as long as the clan is lvl 6 (neither will members in the academy, they are always "vassal" no matter what the clan lvl is).
actually you should put all nobles in the gaurd units since they are baron regardless.
True, when you have nobles, it would be a waste to put them in main clan, since they are always at least baron rank (at clan lvl 8, direct clan members are baron rank even without being nobles, while royal guard members are only elders). But if people are not nobles yet, you have to think about who to put where if your clan has clan skills which people want to use.
