Well, when I first played the 2 weeks of L2 trial, I loved the game. I then bought the Epic Collection and played it for about 2 more weeks after that, but then, I lost interest. Recently, I tried playing this game again, and I really want to get into it. I'm level 34 in Gustin, and I'm honestly not sure how to get the most of out this game, and how to make progress. I'm coming from a WoW state of mind here, and progression in that game is very different, but I've grown tired of it.
So I just want some help getting into this game again. Tell anything that might help me keep my interest and my account for this game. I have 15 days to decide if I stay or not. This probably sounds vague, but I am honestly confused as to what to do.
It just seems like all there is to do is to solo 'till my eyes bleed, but even if that's the case, I'm not even sure how is the best way to go about doing it with minimal down time. So again, just toss me some advise. Any. Thyanks in advance for any helpful responses.
hmmm. well im not on gustin but it is almost the same on every server. at lvl 34 you should look for raid group. if you cant find one trade your wepon for a glaive and go to the catas. that is if youre a fighter. if youre not im not sure what you can do... i guess raid.

1) dont solo.
2) find a clan.
3) do a raid.
4) if you don't enjoy your class and the power it posesses, try another one.
This game is all about finding a class you enjoy, and people you can enjoy doing things with. You wont be able to get max lvl in a few weeks like in WoW. The best way to get reinterested would be to find a good clan and people to do things with(it doesnt always have to be grinding, I run the wishing well quest with people every week, even at high lvls, just for the hell of it).
I am a DE Assassin, going for Phantom Ranger. I enjoy the class a lot to be honest, as I usually use one of two types of classes in every RPG I play: Necromancer/Warlock type characters, or Rangers/Rogues. I do have a Clan, but they aren't the most helpful bunch I've ever met(or not anymore anyways). As for Raids, what would be the best way to go about getting into a raid group? Just shout around in whatever town I'm in?

Ok, first of all, you need to get out of that clan (and on good terms if possible).
The main difference between this game and a game like WoW is that clans in this game are supposed to be like family. they have your back and will help you in time of need. Whether it is you dropping something and they coming to rez you and get the item (though admittedly they changed the system so dropping is less of an issue these days) or they are there to help you with class change quests, etc.
Begging is way out and it is generally not tolerated.
This game is a game of purpose. I Know that some people like the game's quests but in general, they are subpar on many levels (my opinion) and are just there to get you to the next class, help with mats, etc. This is a pvp game and that is the focus. Whether you like sieges, open clan wars, ganking, whatever...
So join a clan with people you really like, get along with, want to help and who have a similar mindset.
Now, granted, many people do like to solo because that is the best way to get faster xp. But there are classes who have a hard time soloing. In the end you need to be working toward something and have clear objectives in mind.
Otherwise the grind will destroy you. Not to mention the economic grind.
WoW is a fun game where players log in, do some quests, some raids, log out. You can have a bit of fun for a short period of time and generally, the world presents itself to you much like an amusement park.
L2 is a more serious game where you band together with people for similiar objectives and find a place in the world in relation to the politics of the world you are in.
Some people like to stay out of those politics but sometimes you have no choice. It's gameplay is more intangible as it revolves around your relationship with the people you are with.
Well, I'm not exactly sure how am I supposed stay with people I like playing with since, well, I don't really know anyone, and people always seem to be off doing their own thing, or sitting down and mainly selling things. I'm in no rush to get to the level cap at all, as leveling isn't all I like to do in a MMO, but like I said, there never seems to be anything to do besides level. All that stuff like sieges and PvP seems geared towrds higher level players, and I'm only level 34. It's tough having a goal, when I'm not sure exactly what are my options at my level. Only thing I'm working towards at the moment is to get to 40 to get to my next class transfer.
Reason I left WoW was because of it's laid back nature. I'm a real competitive player, and play a lot of fighting and FPS games competitively, so I like that kind of challenge and cut-throat experiece to be transfered over to my MMOs. And Lineage 2 seems to have all the right things, but it just seems like I'm having trouble finding those said right things.
Well, that's the trick. You are going to have to be a bit more aggressive meeting people. Whether that is going to the lower lvl arenas (though you will still find higher level players there who may or may not want to take you out) or offering to help with lower level raids.
Because the reality is, if you are not leveling then there is not much else. You can raid, fish, gather mats for crafting, see if you can find lower lvl pvp (though again, you usually piss off someone with a higher level character who just logs in and hunts you down.
But that's the trick with these types of games... and especially this game.. it's all about the people. And more importantly, the "right" people.
Yea well if i were you i would focus on lvling(even though you dont want to) and get to 60+ then from there seige and get in a clan that pvps or is in war alot. and when you get to a higher lvl then you can try for the hero status. but thats after lvling alot.

Sorry I can't be of more help.
OH you've been plenty of help enough.
In this game, It's not what you do, it's who you know.
If you're a competitive player, then you'll love this game. You can be competitive in many aspects in this game.
At your level, your immediate goals are leveling to 35, then take one the first class change quest. Then the goal is 37 for next class change quest. Then goal is 39, for last class change quest. Then goal is 40, for actuall class change.
Try to get a clan, to graduate from their academy... You are close, and that gives them reputation, so they will help you.
In closing, I would like to thank Sovrath for including me, for a limited period of time, into his network of friends.
as leveling isn't all I like to do in a MMO, but like I said, there never seems to be anything to do besides level.
buy a fishing rod and fish. Or join 7 signs and go to a Catacomb or necropolis and start shouting for a party. Race track can be fun to pass the time.
You start to enjoy this game more when you group with other people. Soloing is good for passing the time but I find Lineage 2 is bigger on the community element of getting help from other players.
Finding a clan is a good start but blind shouts might work just as well. If you are in the right places.
Raid shouts for your level usually occur in Dion. Cata groups i usually go straight there and start shouting in the dungeon.
Well, I was told not to solo, then what am I supposed to do? I tried shouting for parties/raids, and no one responds at all. And even when I go out to solo, I always feel as though I could be more effective in how I approach the whole idea. Like I said, I WANT to like the game, and get into, but I need to find my "groove"...my...I dunno...something.
hey hun, i play on gustin and also have alts around your lvl, pm me in game and maybe i can help ya out. My clan is also recuiting, and welcome new players, if your are interested let me know :)
I tried shouting for parties/raids, and no one responds at all.
If you are having trouble on Gustin may be consider starting a new character on another server.
Mind you there's obviously been a response from ppl from Gustin on this thread.
Shouting takes persiverence you have to spend time doing it. Only if you are very lucky will you recieve a response first time.
Vary your online time. It could be that you are on when the population is lowest. Failing that swap to a european server. :D
i didn't think anyone knew who Garth is lol, the Lords of Dus are a great little series :)
anyways, L2 is a great game if you know how to play. whenever you're bored, force yourself to do something new, different, or maybe just plain stupid. go visit the arena at the race track sometimes, andyeah raiding is the best way to lvl fast if you get a good raid group
otherwise, soloing can work well in the right areas (go exploring! :))
Speaking as a "Lone Wolf" type of player, L2 is the most free form game I have seen in regards of what to do with the world you are in. The players create what their world is like through drama and battles. There is little to L2 by itself and this is why Server Personalities play such a big difference in your gaming experience. I'm probably in the minority group when I say that I Love L2 just because of the world itself and not it's players. Most of the L2 community just reminds me of a woman only office enviroment I used to work in where it was just plain cutthroat and catty, or kindergarten... But in all honesty, I have met some very nice people in L2 in my 3+ years here. Some I will never forget.
The game is what you make of it. I have 48 people on my friends list of which only 2 are online anymore and one of my closer ones just quit. But I have and continue to enjoy this game. For some it seems like a rather spartan existence, but for me, I'm satisfied. For others, they have to know everyone. You decide what it all means. Joining a clan does help most. Small clans tend to be better to join as they are a tighter knit group and more social. In big clans you just tend to get lost amongst the other Academy cadets that have been farmed.
You are still somewhat low lvl and I suggest trying out other servers and using those nifty newbie travel tokens and go to Dion or Giran and see what the server life is like. You don't have to lvl any there just to figure out what the people are like, obviously don't judge just from a few mins though.
Good Luck, and if you're ever on Kain, say hello. ;)

Have Fun !
Once a friend always a friend
And to the OP...
I mostly solo. Always have. Part of that is because I don't want to wait for/look for a party. I want to go at the speed I want to go. However, I've always been a part of a great clan of people. Because of this, I enjoy the banter on the chat window, do large scale events like raids, Sieges, our odd defense of our Hot springs clan hall yesterday (we broke chests for an hour, somtimes being paralyzed and racing against another team... surprisingly, it was fun) and anything else comes up.
This all happened from knowing just a few people.
Your problem is that you are coming into the game at a "later" time and most people have leveled up beyond your current area. It's going to be slow going until you meet those people who you are really in sync with.
And sure, maybe that means moving to another server. I don't know. Bartz might be the way to go because there are more players and thus more players with alts at lower levels.
In this game, no one holds your hand but once you have friends (real friends) they will be there to back you up. It's just going to take a little chutzpa and moxie on your part. And patience. Look at it this way, it could be worse, you could be pk'ed several times per hour. That is what new players used to deal with.
They would even come on the boards and practically beg for higher level players to come to the new player lands and just hang for a little bit so they could level in peace. Use your uninterrupted time to your best advantage.

2) find a clan.
3) do a raid.

Very good advice here. Except the "3" which is very optional.
Well, I've been really enjoying my time over-all since I started it up again. Could be better if I had a good clan, but I'll figure that out as I go. I do have one problem/question that I hope some of you can toss a few words and maybe help me sort it out. I'm Lv36 now, and after running around in a lot of places getting not-so-great exp, I tried to solo a catacomb. Well, I do fine in it, as long as I have buffs. Without buffs(VR mainly), my assassin needs to rest after 1-2 encounters, maybe 3 if I toss some pots around. I'm really getting tired of going to Dion/RT and shouting for VR, but without it, I feel as though I can't solo for decent exp.
People are saying don't solo, but I don't see what other options I have since even after asking around for well over 20 minutes, I didn't get a single raid group invite, and in 20 minutes I can get 15% of my exp bar filled up. Question is, is it normal for to NEED VR for me to do a decent job a soloing while getting good/fast exp, or am I doing something wrong? I could go to non-catacomb areas, but the grind in those areas is sure something that will turn me off from the game QUICK, since I can get 4k-4.5k exp per kill in a catacomb, and no where near that in areas in my level range.

yes, at higher levels for a melee class VR is pretty neccessary. regeneration Should be just as effective (read: VR should be less efffective) but its not. quick note on catacombs. the aggro dont drop seal stones, and there are losts of mobs that have resistances to daggers or physical attacks that you will be encountering eventually. durring quest week there are angelic and demonic mobs in catacombs, they are not social with each other but both are social with the undead, such that you should never be fighting more than 1 mob at one time if you are creative and pull correctly. you probably would have been better off in d grade to be using heavy armor since you're probably not avoiding that many attacks (try this for your next character). and more importantly, contrary to popular belief, catacombs are really poor xp. one mob that gives you 5k xp is not worth 30 seconds of kill time. if you can find a field of passive mobs that give 1-2k each, stand behind them before using any dagger skills, and one shot them if you're lucky. takes a lot less time per mob and 500 quick kills yield more xp than 1 kill of a blood red uber giant of zarfod. when in doubt, remember this: 2-person party xp grants a 30% or so bonus, which is then split 2 ways, but you theoretically kill twice as fast. so parties with morons or afkers can actually be worse xp than solo.
man kigdom you prolly should have thrown a paragraph in there somewhere
i agree with everything he said except the vr part
i dont think of VR as some uber overpowered buff thats makes melee have so little downtime all the mages and archers start to complain, i consider it a balancing factor in game design (read mages and archers still get better xp)
high lvl melee parties without vr are so rare they are nearly unheard of
luckily you are playing the game in C5 and not in C2 when i started because back then it was pretty much a case of kill 2 mobs then rest for 5 minuets
DO NOT step foot in a catacomb unless you are in a party or have your own duel box (read dont enter a catacomb unless you have buffs)
im a high lvl overpowered dwarf so i can basically kill any mob in game that ****** me off so try and understand this, i can take my pick of a mob that gives me 6k per kill or a mob that gives me 40k, the mob that gives me 6k will earn me literally 3x the xp per hour as the one that gives me 40k
as an added bonus the mob that gives me 6k dies faster and therefore does less damage but it has exactly the same drop rate for herbs as the one that gives 40k
Kingdon and nameless are right, just becasue you can harder mobs doesnt mean that is the best xp per hour. So many people focus on the level the fastest part of the game they dont stick around too long anyway. This is not an instant gratification game. As a solo dagger user you need to be out in the open where herbs drop, and find mobs that you can kill in about 2-4 swings using your specials. Another thing to be aware of when locating that sweet spot to hunt is, mob density. Running doesnt get you xp, so find a spot that has good density without pulling too much aggro.
At your level, try partisans hideaway north of dion. do the mayhums there.
contrary to popular belief, catacombs are really poor xp. one mob that gives you 5k xp is not worth 30 seconds of kill time. if you can find a field of passive mobs that give 1-2k each, stand behind them before using any dagger skills, and one shot them if you're lucky. takes a lot less time per mob and 500 quick kills yield more xp than 1 kill of a blood red uber giant of zarfod.

I have to disagree with this. With a 2 or 3 man party the XP I just as consistent if not more so than above ground, in addition there are seal stones which have a higher value than most other common loot dropped by mobs.
The best advice I could give is to browse this site and learn the other classes skills so that when you get in parties you can adapt to their strength or weakness more easily.
I am in the Ant Incubator right now, and though the exp feels slower, there is no porting back to Dion for more buffs every 20 minutes, which IS refreshing. It does seem slower however, since I can take on 2-3 mobs at one time in a catacomb with VR. But Meh, I'll keep exploring my options. I feel like starting a new class, but going back to level 1 just doesn't seem nearly that much fun.
*EDIT* Hey Allwine, look as hard as I might, I can't find anywhere called Partisan's Hideaway. You sure that's the name, or am I just ******ed and not being able to find something that's right under my nose?

I wish more people understood this.
But,
If your say a class that kills very slowly and the yield is similar, woudln't killing higher lvl mobs be better. Less run time. :)
i was in my mid 50s when i soloed a karik (with a friendly se standing nearby just in case!) toi 10 angel in early 60s. just to be able to say that i could do it, not because i was looking for uber xp.

if you like to be able to kill big red mobs in a party, that's what the melee classes are all about. daggers should start out fights behind mobs, archers should kite, nukers should conserve mp.

no. more NUMBER of kills per level means more chances at big drop rewards. if u only killed 50 mobs of blood red to gain a level, odds are that 100-200 kills of green mobs will yield you more money. you get more manor fruits, more adena drops, more spoils, more mat drops etcetcetcetc
