Why will NC not let me play both accounts?

Player Questions Started Last reply 42 posts
Evry time I try to log in the 2nd accnt, one of the accounts is DCed! This is frustrating in the extreme! ^%$****O&%!!!!!!!
Are you sure that your logging in 2 seperate accounts and not the same account twice?

From all the people who multi-box I doubt NC does anything specific to cause this if you are logging in two seperate accounts.

About the only thing I can think of, assuming your logging them in correctly is either 1)You need to switch to windowed mode, or 2)There is something odd with your internet connection, either your router or your ISP is futzing with your IP addresses or connections in some way.

...It would be best if this was moved to the technical forum though.
Multiboxing is the devil.
Thy shalt be burnt at the stake, in the name of Einhasad!
my guess is that u try to log into same acc..
No, I'm logging in two separate accts. This is something I've been doing since last summer. The problem just started tonight.
so what did u do to [censored] it up?
i have the same problem too even porting with both accounts makes one of them crash is really annoying. :p

that didn't happen 4 months ago so i don't know what is wrong now.
Well, the porting is a possible related problem. About 2.5 weeks ago, L2 began crashing on me rather frequently when I started a port. Sometimes just clinging on the GK in one window or the other will result in a crash. On the nite that started, I also began getting more frequent DCs. But it wasn't until tonite that I just got DCed every blooming time I login with a 2nd account.
Ppl cant 2 box?Music to my ears ^_^

They still can, and it still isn't a problem that they do.

PS: Saw the AoE Range of Rain of Fire yesterday. Looked just fine. ^^

sorry but is a small problem i can sill box but is annoying that it crash especially when moving but once I'm in the grinding area I'm there to stay so see ya asking for a group. :p
Not to get off topic, but i was wondering.

Why are you two boxing?

2 boxing is the spawn of Satan.

You need to run at least 3 or 4 machines these days. I thank the God that is Belkin for his offspring, Nostromo. :D
3 boxing ftw :D
Why do you play an mmo to play with yourself?!! How about you interact or go play a single player game and go cheat.
Interact? Nah, it's overrated.. I have pretty interesting conversations with my SE.. I even tried to pick her up once, but got shot down..
wow a simple question seems to have spawned a whole lot of hostility from some people! some of us dont have a ton of time to play, and have difficulty doing so without a group - in my case im a warlord..doable, but not too good as a solo'er. i have an se just so i can have a few buffs to make life slightly less miserable when i log on for my few moments during the week. i party with "real" people on the weekends.

tbh, my boxed buffer has more personality than some of the live players with whom ive dealt.

i play a dwarf and a se/WC
even with the se out of party so you get the DD power and the uber buffs of the se i still struggle to get parties
it takes me 8 hours to get 2% and since im only on for a few hours a day id prefer not to spend those begging for groups

ppl are always welcome to join me yet i have very few takers
Agreed, the sad thing is, unless your a needed class your a secondary concern for most groups. If your a Sws/BD/PP/SE/Bish/WC (WC has to be 74+ somtimes I have noticed or they will take a out of party PP as well) your pretty much going to get a group with a minimal wait period. Unfortunatly if your virtually any other melee your second fiddle, even a tank in some instances isn't even required.

Hence why on Hinde we have 3 Hero's that are all the same guy. Why should he party anyone else when he can effectively do it all on his own.
I'm not into ppl with multiple accounts but I would not consider it cheating. How many Raid groups or parties have been thankfull for an out of party buffer. Also for recharges.
Hehe
You all are incredable. 2 accounts or more for one person has always been allowed.
And for all of you perfect party people out there, try getting an out of alliance Overlord invited to parties. Doesn't happen often at all.

I two box, one a prophet and one my main. Also, since we are working on rep points, the two boxing helps by bringing the prophet down, out of party, so we can level these alts quickly. These are not players, they are there to serve a purpose in the clan.

As for why it just started happening (the real thread of this disucssion) can't say. I do know as of 2 weeks ago, I am get some hesitation on my toons all night long. It was after an update, but I have not found the problem yet, the computer isn't even breaking a sweat at all, just more hesitant every so often :(
no problems for me
no dcs, no lag, no crashes
pretty much business as usual on this 2 box front
Occasionally I get crashes on my SO, but my dwarf seems to have no issues, but yeah freezes happen from time to time. Personally, since I have the much hated Comcast I believe that's my problem. IF it's offpeak hours like early morning where I live I have no issues.
I dual box, anyone griping about it is just sour graping anyway. It's allowed and that's all you need to know.

I havent' had that problem though, does the OP get an error when the first one crashes?

Why do you play an mmo to play with yourself?!

I play a two-box specifically because I do not want to have to play a solo class just so I can play by myself.

Of course that bit me on the [censored], because after being spoiled with far too many excellent parties, I don't want to go through the tedium of fighting on my own on my prophet/EE any more - and I don't have to. If nobody is on, I will just play an alt, and if someone is on, I will be given a party, even if I can not perform as well as a different healer class or player might. =)

Just for example, as far as I'm aware, there's no live prophet in our alliance - this is a problem. We do have two prophets, one of them purely boxed and one played by a two-boxer (the latter is me), and having them around gives us flexibility in building parties.

They are both still levelling, and my 'main' (if you can call him that) is just as likely to be dropped out of a party to make room for the prophet as vice versa.

People who are being replaced by two-boxes need to look at their clans or themselves.
There is truth in what you say, but it is not the player that created this situtation, rather I believe NcSoft and the way the different classes are laid out. There are some classes it is extremely easy to get a party (BD's for one). Other classes, it is your friends or alliances that get you there, but as anyone knows, unless you are in the top three alliances on a given server, you do have times where no-one is online for you to party with.

Again, who wants to ask their very high level friend to come, sit out of party and help a sub 40 clannie power level. It isn't fair to either of the parties.

Now, get rid of some of the pots and scrolls, you would see all classes getting played and more out of alliance groups forming cause you would have to. The pots and scrolls destroyed quite a few of the classes and the game has not seen fit to replace those skills or agument them in some way as to make these lesser played classes important again.

Pre to C1, you had alot of real prophets running around, now it is very difficult to find one. Our clan only has one true prophet, which, when he is online, we always drop our 2 boxed pp's.
That's a lot of it too, the pots, the scrolls, the newbie buffs, the CH buffs, the herb drops, etc that have killed support classes. I went from not even asking for a party in C2 or waiting a very short amount of time, to only getting clan pity parties from then on.

VR owning all didn't help either.
Actually I think it all comes down to:

'Buffs are overpowered, heals are underpowered.'

A prophet alone can more than double a character's damage output, probably almost half the damage they're taking - and then the game is built around having that available.

If buffs made less of a difference and heals were more required (and suppliable) things would look different.
I'm contemplating a 3rd account as my machine can run L2 3 times at once. I tried it already :P
I think the disconnection problem is something to do with your machine's capability. Some aspects have changed recently and my 2nd pc disconnects in Monster Race track if I start a char that was previously run on my main, more powerful machine. What I suggest is you log onto the secondary char and set the graphics etc for this to "low". Then log off. Log onto the main char with your better settings, then start the 2nd char with the new lower settings and you'll find you'll be ok.
To get back to the original questions and some responses: When this started last night, I had both accts running, and they both DCed. After a few minutes, I could log onto both accts, but 1 - 2 mins later, 1 of the ac**** would DC. After re-booting both PC and modem, I found that I could log one acct and start up a toon. But the 2nd acct would DC somewhere between logging in and character selection.
For the people complaining about boxing, I started doing it in C4. It's very popular in my alliance. As it stands now, it's become a play style that I've built up and like for the most part. I don't do it to be anti-social, but I generally am only able to group with others players once or twice during the weekend.

Agreed, the sad thing is, unless your a needed class your a secondary concern for most groups. If your a Sws/BD/PP/SE/Bish/WC (WC has to be 74+ somtimes I have noticed or they will take a out of party PP as well) your pretty much going to get a group with a minimal wait period

Not so much... pick-up parties in the end-game are not a common thing at all, unless you've an "in" to a party such as having a friend, relative or former clanmate in the party already.

As a oh-so-loved Swordsinger, it's about as hard to find a non-ally party for me as it is for anyone else... truly, how often do you see a "GLF SwS" shout?
I was under the impression that you had two accounts playing on one computer.... But now you have two computers, that is weird...

those things breed like rabbits, i tell ya!

Who says dualboxers are playing solo? I dualbox virtually all the time and yet I am almost never the only one playing. I dualbox a warcryer not just for me, but for every person in my party. Real buffers aren't common or always available, especially when you're trying to find people that made it to endgame without burning out and quitting/rerolling.

The problem is, some of the most important classes to have are also considered by most people to be some of the least fun classes to play as. There are a few who really love their buffers, but when your contribution in a large group is "push some buttons every 20 minutes then sit down" those few are a pretty small part of the server.

I think the real thing that would fix many classes is simply redesigning them to be entertaining and interesting to play as.

Thanks for thinking like me :)
Splatter, I play both accounts on the same computer. There are some people who play 2 accounts on separate computers. Peronally, I don't have the money to do that, and even if I did, I would likely find playing on 2 computers at the same time a bit difficult. So far, knock on wood, the DC problem has not ocurred again tonight.
how do you guys dual box? I'm thinking practically here :D
If you have an out of party buffer do you just activate that window, buff the character and then minimize the window?
Or do you keep both windows open? If thats the case does it not distort the image?
Obviously this is if you are playing on the same computer. :)
I keep both clients maximised in windowed mode, and switch between them as I need.
Used to keep them small next to each other when I was on the same computer, using two seperate computers now.

The playstyle is different, I would not say either is 'easier' or 'harder'. Two computers = more macro control, less mousework on second computer (since ideally, you simply do not look at that screen), two characters on same computer = more mousework, less macros except for buffing.

ETA: All buffers need is enough MP to freakin stand and do stuff after buffing - giving out full buffs should *not* put you out cold until you are needed again.

Invocation would have been the right step to do this, but of course someone really bright decided not to give it to prophets...
how do you switch between maximized windows?
The taskbar? :(
i keep both windows open and click on the tab tochange windows
i just hit a buff macro then switch back to my main (i have the full 24 buff heal and recharge macros)
in full screen mode you would just alt-tab and that should bring up the other client provided 2 clients are all that is running, might cause some lag or break auto follow but i cant really say
Personally, I find less lag when I run both L2 clients windowed, instead of full-screen. I just use alt-tab to toggle between windows. However, I play on a 4-yr old PC. so I don't know if newer computers have much issue with lag in switching between windows, in any mode.
