Eva's Mark... The End?

General Discussion Started Last reply 31 posts
Well the two weeks are up, my luck was horrible, and my fishing friend, finally just came back after a 9 week run in the army. When/how is the Eva's Mark going to be attainable now, and if not... why?

:(
Aha. Misunderstood, hence the edit.

I think that Mistryl said they may be doing it again in the future, but they are not certain yet.
meh, my friend kicked himself when he realized he missed the first fishing event
Why not let the 10 folks from each server have their win? There was a fishing tourney, and the best-of-the-best were chosen. We got an item that will be unique on the server. Let it be unique.

I loved this competition. I was able to participate, have a chance, and actually win, without being a level 80 hero with the bestest gear evar known to man, elf, orc, or dwarf ... and still work a full time job.

I'm sorry your friend was unable to participate in the event because of RL, but don't ask NC to take our medal of honor and just give it away to everyone and anyone ..... it just cheapens it.

I'd be all for awarding future tournament winners a token accessory, just make it silver or bronze, something that sets it apart from the ones won on the first ever NA Fishing King tournament.

I understood that the tournament item would be available again in the future. When was not specified but an opportunity was going to appear again. I don't think NC are planning on giving it to everyone. I hope that they keep it a rare occurance when the tournament allows for the item to be won.

This item i think will still be rare enough and special for the players since there are many many characters in the game world.
I think it would be fair if they chnged the design a bit so that it differentiates from the first time winners like you said.
the tournament will continue but the hair accessory will be only for the winners of the first 2 weeks.

There was a fishing tourney, and the best-of-the-best were chosen.

I agree the item should be unique. Maybe only comming from future fishing tournaments and no where else. And I salute the absolute dedication of the winners.

But I quoted you because the event had almost nothing to do with how good you were at fishing. As long as you weren't brain dead, you had as good a chance as the best fisherman in all of L2. It was all a matter of how much you were willing to fish.

Not to be sour grapes at all. Its NCs lack of creativity, and not the winners that I direct my scorn at. I really hope they come up with a better fishing tournament in the future.
I agree. The event had nothing to do with how good anyone was at fishing. It was totally random, your gear did not persuade the event, you could not e-bay the event, and you could win the event in 5 minutes, or 5 days.....All you had to do was try. It was in fact a matter of how much you were willing to fish. Anyone could have won it. That's why I loved this event.
Well put. It was a rare instance of equality and fairness. No one had the advantage, no one could cheat their way to the top (aside from botting the fishing process, although Im not sure how effective that is)

But I would point out that it is balanced, and fair, and equal, not in the cleverness of its design. But in its extreme simplicity. I do not dislike the idea of the most legitly dedicated individual winning. I am happy for the winners, and they certainly earned it.

I am just disgruntled with NC softs attempt at an "event". Because I love fishing, and I would like to believe I am pretty good at it. I was suckered in by the word "tournament". And thought I would get to have some fun, test my skills, and compete with other people who bother to be good at fishing. At very least I thought it might be a slight change of pace, or more of a challenge. But it was just two weeks of run-of-the-mill fishing. With a lottery attached.
I think it would definitely be good to see some reward for actual fishing skill. For instance, the least amount of reeling, pumping, and shot-use would result in the highest scores. Of course, various skill levels and equipment grades would then have to be taken into account to keep it fair for all levels.

If the current tournament is the same as Korea's, however, I doubt we'll see much change here in NA.
Once a year at most, for the hair prize.

No, it was not the best-of-the-best. The best-of-the-best is for another tournament that requires Skill not how lucky you are in the fishing number program. Which is nearly impossible due to the fact they’re always going to be bots out there to screw the legit players.

It's also not really something so specially earned if you took 5 minutes out of your game day just to fish for 2 casts, 1st being 92.950-93.000 and 2nd being 92.980-93.000. And it did happen on the Hindemith server by a friend of mine. Granted I was happy for the person but this was on the 2nd day the 1st **** tournament came out. And fishing 10 hours every day with a 100/100 catch rate per hour (not counting monsters) doesn't help at all with the luck part. Believe me I tried for 6 days at 10 hours each and the highest I came to was a 92.970 but it wasn’t high enough. And while I look and see people that hardly fish… “Bam” 5min-2 hours on there first try a 92.999.

I loved this competition. I was able to participate, have a chance, and actually win, without being a level 80 hero with the bestest gear evar known to man, elf, orc, or dwarf ... and still work a full time job.

Luck events NEED to be continued and given the same exact prize namely because its luck and people that gloat over a luck gained item can “seriously” annoy those that work hard for said “luck gained item”. This fishing contest is like getting a full Armor and/or Weapon drop. And it’s random, as you can get it on the 1st mob or the 10,000 mob. Hell, people got 2 times in the **** ranking. And don’t forget about the fishing bots that won.

I'm sorry your friend was unable to participate in the event because of RL, but don't ask NC to take our medal of honor and just give it away to everyone and anyone ..... it just cheapens it.

Sorry it’s already cheapened. You see, even though you might not want to think about it. There are people out there that used bots programs, and their numbers were also tallied into the top 5/10, so basically those bots took spaces where legit players could earn a ranking. Another reason the tournament was luck.

I'd be all for awarding future tournament winners a token accessory, just make it silver or bronze, something that sets it apart from the ones won on the first ever NA Fishing King tournament.

Yes to continuing the events to obtaining Eva’s Mark. And No to the changing of the Eva’s Mark for other tournaments. I explained the reasons why in the above statements and paragraphs.

The thing that would make Eva’s Mark incredibly special...

is if it dropped from fishing monsters 1 out of 1000 monster kills exactly. Not some random number. I am talking 1000 fishing monster quest items where you trade them in and voila…Eva’s Mark. But, that quest can only be undertaken by fighter classes.

The quest for mages would be to kill 100 fishing monsters and turn in 900 “Large…HQ” fish of any color.

That or make it so there is a mob for fighters to catch (which is the current mobs caught today) and a mob for mystics to catch (these mobs are mystic class caught only and these are not strong against magic).

So, fighter’s catch the original type of fishing monsters while the mystic’s can only catch the low M-def mobs... But it would require a change in the fishing system’s programming which would make mystics, that fish, much happier.

And the quest would now be made that mystics would have to kill 1000 monsters for 1000 quest items. And you don’t get a quest item from every mob though.

Quest would be attained in Heine or from the fisherman in the fishing guild that you see in every towns grocery store.

I would call this quest:

Eva’s Blessing [For Fighter Classes] Lv.1-80 [1] Time quest (Solo)

[Maybe worded differently]
Eva needs your help to cleanse the seas of darkness. You must collect 1000 Darkened Fish Scales from the denizens of the deep in order to preserve peace and tranquility throughout the seas!
[List all the caught sea monsters here]

Now any real “game” fisherman would know how much patience it would take to kill 1000 caught monsters from fishing, only to get a non-tradable, droppable, and sellable headpiece. Those that would truly want it would truly deserve it. And as for the bots doing the quest…well…there is nothing really to gain for them.

Once a year at most, for the hair prize.

I'd rather once a month.
Then everyone would have one.

I feel they should stay rare, especially considering their supposed significance.
I'm with Maline on this one.
There should be no fixed probability and no obvious period when the mark may be won.
The mark should be rare for the players who competed and its up to NC when they want release another oportunity for it.
I don't think once a month or even once a year is a good rule to go by it should be purley whenever NC feels like it. :) provided its not that often.

Then everyone would have one.

I feel they should stay rare, especially considering their supposed significance.

Your joking....

Seriousely...

let me explain to you the monster catching ordeal.

Ok every 100 lures you get 0-5 monsters and fastest you can use 100 lures is in 1 hour and thats if you work.
Now if you fished 5 monsters every hour as an example and got 5/5 quest items per monster it would take you 200 hours of consistant game time which is about 8-9 days but nobody can fish 24hours every day. So it would take about 16-30 days.

But if thats too easy for you, make it 10,000 monsters that'd take about a year+ or 10 months.

Tell me. How is this quest not fair?
It's not fair because those items are given out as a *unique* reward to people who played and won the competition.

It doesn't matter how hard you would have to work for it, it's a question of principle.

Tell me. How is this quest not fair?

Its not got to do with fairness a rare item is supposed to be unavailable to a majority of the server population.
If someone earns it through luck or other suggested means does not matter.
its' a RARE item.

This item has a significance of those who entered. Every further opportunity to obtain this item will drop the significance of that item.
Evas Mark will become what cat and bunny ears are ahhhhh!

No it wouldn’t drop in value if a special fishing quest was made for the item.
1,000 or 5,000 or 10,000 fishing quest monster items to complete the quest is much fairer, patience/endurance related, and still keeps the item rare. Only the real fisherman and maybe a few bot characters would have earned it instead of dumb luck.

Or better yet, because this quest is much harder then the event, you should get a completely new headpiece that’s like a double Eva’s Mark on both sides of the head, same color, but new name. Or a completely new and better design.

A tournament that doesn’t go by luck would be better.

And where the hell do you compare bunny ears quest to my quest? You can finish bunny ears in 15min if you had the money while mine would take months.

Why not let the 10 folks from each server have their win? There was a fishing tourney, and the best-of-the-best were chosen.

You mean 10 random blokes just got randomly luckier than the rest. I see no reason to make an item I want to have unique, as this would all but ensure I could never have it, and I'll be ****ed if I'm going to shoot myself in the foot.
As one of the winners of the first week, I do feel i'd like to keep very few of these items on the server. However, I feel bad for those that competed hard only to come up empty handed. I know how frustrating it could be to fish the amount of hours I witnessed some of these people fishing, only to come away with nothing while watching others who fished only a few minutes get that 'lucky catch'. That was the way this event was designed though, nothing to do with the winners. The only thing more fishing got you was more chances to win with each fish caught, which was as fair as they were willing to make it.

And honestly, I think that his quest idea is a fair one. I would possibly change the design/color of the accessory earned thru it to make it a bit different, but that quest would only reward the most dedicated of fishermen making it a special reward for those ppl.

I cant say the event wasn't fair, it was just as fair as the lottery system that's been in game forever. You can play that every week and never win, while someone else can just buy their first ever ticket and secure the prize. It was a random-chance event, and I think that's what most ppl seem to be upset about here.

Now whether a random chance event cheapens my prize, I dont know. I'm glad i won, and i'll wear my eva's mark with pride, it definatly beats my coonears im currently wearing :).

Yeah, 10 Dames and/or Blokes, maybe even less as some people got 2 times in the top, got randomly luckier then the rest of the L2 population that cast their rods. Personally I wouldn't be livid right now if the tournament was based around endurance and skill.

Which is easy to do if you base it off of, if you catch 10 fish in a row you get a level 1 Fish fight where you pump and reel like hell to catch a 65.000,

And level 2 is at 50 in a row where you get a 70.000,
And level 3 is at 100 in a row where you get a 75.000,
And level 4 is at 200 in a row where you get an 80.000,
And level 5 is at 350 in a row where you get an 85.000,
And level 6 is at 550 in a row where you get a 90.000,
And level 7 is at 800 in a row where you get a 91.000,
And level 8 is at 950 in a row where you get a 92.000,
And level 9 is at 1000 in a row where you get a 93.000.

*Note* MUST use Prize Winning type lures in order qualify for the tournament.

As you go higher it increases in difficulty.

Fish that sneak off with your bait (the ones that just take your bait without a fight) and the monsters you catch that you have to fight wouldn't be counted in the "Fish in a Row Caught" system. Also if you have to log out to go to work or whatever, your fish in a row doesn't diminish. Only if you fail to catch a fish you’re fighting against does it go all the way to 0 again.

The best thing is the adena prizes would still be able to be used in this SKILL based system. Depending on who caught the largest fish at what "level".

Example, if Tom catches a fish at level 3, level 3 is 1st place.
If Mary catches a fish at level 9, then level 3 no longer qualifies as a marking in the top 5 levels of fishing to get adena and an Eva’s Mark, and you would have to reach level 5 in order to qualify for adena prizes and to obtain Eva’s Mark.

But here's the best part. Assuming someone has caught a level 9 fish. All the people that reach level 7, 8, and 9 would receive Eva's Mark after the event. This makes it incredibly justified against bots that take your spot in the competition. Or the lucky bastard that wins twice.

Now for adena prizes…
First 3 to reach level 5-9 get the adena prizes.

Example: Betty gets first to level 7 and is listed in the top level 7 line. Tom gets 2nd to level 7, Jody gets 3rd, and Roger gets 4th. After a while Betty gets first to level 8, thus Tom is now 1st in level 7, Jody is 2nd, and Roger is 3rd so they all receive adena prizes.

Or, make it so that every level of “Row” fishing has a Ranking system.

Example: At level 1 you can only catch 65.000-69.999 fish.
At level 2 you can only catch 70.000-74.999 fish.
And so on until level 9.
Once at level 9 you can not catch anymore tournament ranking fish at any level.

This makes the top 3 in the current top 5 levels to receive adena prizes.
And if you get 2 times + in a top level for an adena prize you can only qualify for the highest adena prize x1 per week. So if you’re in the level 5 and 9 you can only get the level 9 adena prize.

At level 1 is at 10 in a row where you get a 65.000-69.999.
At level 2 is at 50 in a row where you get a 70.000-74.999.
At level 3 is at 100 in a row where you get a 75.000-79.999.
At level 4 is at 200 in a row where you get an 80.000-84.999.
At level 5 is at 350 in a row where you get an 85.000-89.999.
100,000a
At level 6 is at 550 in a row where you get a 90.000-90.999.
200,000a
At level 7 is at 800 in a row where you get a 91.000-91.999.
300,000a
At level 8 is at 950 in a row where you get a 92.000-92.999.
500,000a
At level 9 is at 1000 in a row where you get a 93.000.
800,000a

Reason for level 9 is because that is the “Creme de la Cream” or the top fish. Those that reached level 9 would disserve to be called “The-Best-of-the-Best” of fishing.

These would be good ideas for the next Event Tournament to clean up the current system.
Now these sound like awesome ideas for a skill-based fishing tourney! Nice work.

Let me ask you this now: If you won the event as you have described, would you want to receive an Eva's Mark that looks just like the one the 10 "random blokes" will be sporting next week? I think I'd want a reward that set me apart as someone who won the skill-based tourney rather than the random one.

Just a thought. Again, nice work on the ideas.
There is one problem, that system heavily favors automated fishing.
Ahh but thats why it allows everyone that reaches within the top 3 (or maybe 5 levels) of the top fisherman's level to recieve Eva's Mark. It's all explained there. This way bots don't steal your spot if you do fish legitly because you'll never get rid of bots.

You might lose your adena prize but not the Eva's Mark.

Also, a new headpiece might be in order for this new system. All depends on what NCsoft's Lineage 2 team wants to do.
Best thing also is that it works with all levels of fishing.
sounds the event was pretty much like Real Fishing....
1) you have to know how to get your lure in the water
2) you have to know how to get it back w/ the fish attached
3) time and luck or just luck
pretty simple concept
Simple, but nothings simple in life. MMORPG or RL. It can always get better.

But even in RL, fisherman have their tricks and hundreds of hundreds of custom made fishing lures, handmade by lure crafters, specifically designed to catch certain fish with extreme accuracy. Luck is part of it, but with fishing technology nowadays, It's more skill/knowledge then luck.

Anyway, my tournament ideas put an emphasis on endurance, patience, and skill with a little luck, instead of just knowing how to cast, pull up a fish, and pray your lucky with some endurance and some patience. Endurance and Patience only counting for those that make 40-80% of their adena fishing legitly. I am talking about the 4-8+ hour a day legit fisherman. :)

my tournament ideas put an emphasis on endurance, patience, and skill with a little luck

Is endurance and patience not a skill pulled off by bot programs that run all day and all night?

Methods and order can be cracked by botters'. Luck and chance cannot be worked out so well by the bots
Bots have a better chance at "luck and chance" in any tournament, namely they fish 24/7/365 and hunt 24/7/365. So of course they have the upper hand no matter what.

What I am trying to do is make it so Legit players have a better chance and the ones with real fishing skill will not be bested by just lucky players that fish 1min to an hour and get the prize winner, screwing the ones that worked legit for days.

"All the people that reach level 7, 8, and 9 would receive Eva's Mark after the event."
About that. I couldn't decide between the top 3 levels or the top 5 levels of the highest caught fish. But top 3 levels seems more reasonable to keep Eva's Mark rare to a point.
I'll finish my ideas completely soon. Still in development. 95% complete.
