7 reasons not to mess with children

A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales.

The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it was a very large mammal its throat was very small.

The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale.

Irritated, the teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human; it was physically impossible.

The little girl said, "When I get to heaven I will ask Jonah."

The teacher asked, "What if Jonah went to hell?"

The little girl replied, "Then you ask him”

A Kindergarten teacher was observing her classroom of children while they were drawing. She would occasionally walk around to see each child's work.

As she got to one little girl who was working diligently, she asked what the drawing was.

The girl replied, "I'm drawing God."

The teacher paused and said, "But no one knows what God looks like."

Without missing a beat, or looking up from her drawing, the girl replied, "They will in a minute."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A Sunday school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five and six year olds.
After explaining the commandment to "honor" thy Father and thy Mother, she asked, "Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?"
Without missing a beat one little boy (the oldest of a family) answered, "Thou shall not kill."
One day a little girl was sitting and watching her mother do the dishes at the kitchen sink. She suddenly noticed that her mother had several strands of white hair sticking out in contrast on her brunette head.
She looked at her mother and inquisitively asked, "Why are some of your hairs white, Mom?"
Her mother replied, "Well, every time that you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white."
The little girl thought about this revelation for a while and then said, "Momma, how come ALL of grandma's hairs are white?"
The children had all been photographed, and the teacher was trying to persuade them each to buy a copy of the group picture.
"Just think how nice it will be to look at it when you are all grown up and say, 'There's Jennifer, she's a lawyer,' or 'that’s Michael, He's a doctor.'
A small voice at the back of the room rang out, "And there's the teacher, she's dead."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A teacher was giving a lesson on the circulation of the blood. Trying to make the matter clearer, she said, "Now, class, if I stood on my head, the blood, as you know, would run into it, and I would turn red in the face."

"Yes," the class said.

"Then why is it that while I am standing upright in the ordinary position the blood doesn't run into my feet?"

A little fellow shouted,
"Cause your feet ain't empty."

The children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Catholic elementary school for lunch. At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. The nun made a note, and posted on the apple tray:

"Take only ONE. God is watching."

Moving further along the lunch line, at the other end of the table was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies.

A child had written a note, "Take all you want. God is watching the apples.

Poor kid. After years of brain washing from her religuos parents, she doesnt quite understand that science has disproved the stories of the bible many time. Well maybe there is still hope she will get smarter when she gets older. ;)
And proven many others.

The text, as the Catholic Church teaches, is allegorical.
I like dictionary.com. Its one of my best resources when talking to you. So lets see what I found on that.

al·le·go·ry Spelled Pronunciation[al-uh-gawr-ee, -gohr-ee] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun, plural -ries.
1. a representation of an abstract or spiritual meaning through concrete or material forms; figurative treatment of one subject under the guise of another.
2. a symbolical narrative: the allegory of Piers Plowman.

—Synonyms 2. fable

Fable

fa·ble /ˈfeɪbəl/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[fey-buhl] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation noun, verb, -bled, -bling.
–noun
1. a short tale to teach a moral lesson, often with animals or inanimate objects as characters; apologue: the fable of the tortoise and the hare; Aesop's fables.
2. a story not founded on fact: This biography is largely a self-laudatory fable.

Point 1 in that definition says it teaches a moral lesson. Fine with me. Morals are learned in different ways I guess. Some can figure out right from wrong. Some need a book thousands of years old to tell that whats right and wrong. Morals are morals reagardless of how they are learned I guess. :p

Point 2. A story not founded on fact. That makes sense to me. :cool:

Just not sure what your point was. As you may already know im not to good with words. So feel free to clarify your point.
Cut the religion jibba jabba!
lol dont respond to me. I didnt make this post. Thought we should view this little girls story from another point of view though.
The post was the joke; not the religion aspect; not suppose to analize it.

lmao
The OP was fine.

I can imagine Luke arguing religion with a 5 year old, though.
Jonah was swallowed by a great fish, not a whale (i asked him)

Some need a book thousands of years old to tell that whats right and wrong. Morals are morals reagardless of how they are learned I guess. :p

Some do. Especially those not lucky enough to live in our educated society today. From there it is a matter of tradition. Tradition is followed in scientific, political, and religious circles. True faith isn't "religious brainwashing" but rather the child that made the whole story funny. It is questioning and testing. Religion is not for "stupid people." On the contrary, you will find most scientists to have some form of faith. The only brainwashing you will find comes from those too quick to judge and unwilling to listen. It may seem simple to simply know to be kind to those around you, but if you turn on the television you will quickly find that it is not so simple for many people.

Jonah is undoubtedly a fable, but other elements of many religious texts have certainly been historically verified. An intelligent person can discern which are fact and which are fiction. An idiot lumps them all as either one or the other.
Well said!
The problem is that when anyone doubts these sotries,We are quickly told we are going to hell. Now Luke I never said all religous people are stupid. I was pointing out that in this story this poor little girls parents have convinced her of absolute insane happenings and if anyone is to question that they are sinners and are going to hell. So telling an atheist (which this teacher seems to be) that they have a choice to go to one of two places that seems like madness to believe in then our first response would probably be. "That little girl is an idiot." Now care to point out where I lump all stories ever told together?
This discussion doesn't really belong on these message boards. I'd recommend going to a religious forum to get into the meat of this interresting subject. But unfortunately nobody is changing anyones mind and no amount of reasoning and/or logic can hold a candle to the power of faith. God bless Joe Pesci.
gj someone made a post containing a simple joke and you guys are gonna get it locked
you should really post in gustin forums we lock more posts per day than you guys make in a week

The post was the joke; not the religion aspect; not suppose to analize it.

lmao

My apologies. You see I work with a group of "holy rollers" were Im constantly under fire for my own views.I Mean nothing towards your thread.

I too, have problems with states like Kansas when they tell me good science falls victim to religious belief. I take the same issue when people claim religious texts are all fake or made up... People can believe the the souls of dead space aliens cause all our bad feelings, as long as they don not degrade the faith of others as "stupid." You wordchoice surprised me, but nonetheless I think we have derailed the thread.

If SirE would just stop posting and let me catch up...
Ah good I surprised you. :p And yeah we derailed it. Seems things are getting back to normal around here then. ;) If were ver going to catch SirE then we need to keep going with this kind of behavior.
Nos, thanks so much for ruining a perfectly good thread that was only meant to bring a few laughs. What did you hope to accomplish by making a comment that you knew some people would take offense to? Was this your big contribution to the world today?

The problem is that when anyone doubts these sotries,We are quickly told we are going to hell.

I see that scenario oh.... almost never? I rarely, if ever, have seen a Christian jump down an atheist’s throat and tell them they're going to hell, especially on forums. But I see a lot of atheists looking for every opportunity they can to knock Christian's views and call them stupid. It's getting quite redundant.
I dont make contributions to the world. In the "joke" It was clearly stated that the teacher did not believe the nonsense and was told she was going to hell. Care to try again? That was a weak attempt on your part. Also I apologized to the OP.
It is sad you can't voice your religious views in public without getting jumped for expressing them if you are Catholic or Christian in the states.
Paying attention is key here. I didnt say anthhing negative to the op. If opinions are not wanted on a posted topic perhaps its best to keep them to yourself.
Nothing negative?

Poor kid. After years of brain washing from her religuos parents...

I took that as saying both a.) only religious parents brainwash their kids and b.) only a brainwashed person would be religious. Didn't mean it that way? Then why say it?

I'm a teacher, I have no kids of my own. But I can tell you, religious parents aren't the only ones "brainwashing" (as you call it) their kids. Everyone does what you're talking about. I had one 8 year old tell me she voted for John Kerry in the last election. Apparently her dad took her in the voting booth with him and let her hit the buttons or whatever. This kid says she hates George Bush, says she's gonna vote Democrat in the next election (when she'll be 10 years old) and I'm 99% sure she's gonna be a true-blue democrat the rest of her life. Why though? She has absolutely no clue why she hates George Bush or why she votes Democrat. She still thinks 8.275 is a bigger number than 8.6 simply because it has more digits! That's the same thing as what you call "religious brainwashing". People pass on their values to their kids. It's what parents are supposed to do. But somehow, when the parents are religious, all the sudden it's "brainwashing".
"I took that as saying both a.) only religious parents brainwash their kids and b.) only a brainwashed person would be religious."

Well you took it wrong. I never made those statements. Now did I? What does religion have to do with politics? Well we could go into that if we must. You know that in most states and atheist can not run for public office? Why do you think that is? I mean you are the one that brought up voting and whatever other nonsense.So clearly you have an answer to why that happens in America.Once you come up with that answer then you tell me that religous ideas are never pushed on to an atheist.

Why are you going off on politics? I used that story to demonstrate that all parents pass their values on to their kids, yet you implied that when religous parents do it, it's "brainwashing". The specific content of my story is not relevant to this discussion - the overall theme of my story is, which is why I chose to include it.

And again, I ask, why would you make a comment that you knew would be offensive to a certain group of people? You keep going off on tangents to avoid the question, but it still stands.
Well. As we can clearly see the rules of the forums state no religion. The Op(Which I will say once again I have no problems with.) Chose to post something full of religion. Which can be viewed as offensive by some. Im not offended and I never said one bad thing to the op of this post. But that was ok when the message was god. But now a guy comes on here and offers a different view and its offensive? Seems like a double standard to me. If someone is offended by a series of words than they have much deeper problems than I can offer an answer to. And would you stop using stories for example if they dont mean anything to what your saying?
an odd point that most people ignore is that you find a much higher percentage of religious people in the hard sciencies than in the social sciences. Yet i'm told all the time by English majors how science has disproved so much of religion yet you'll find most scientists are at the very least agnostic if not genuinly relgious. Again it's funny to say how science hasdisproved the bibls when most of my colleagues can be found every sunday (or saturday) in house of worship.
Hey. I cant speak for everyone or what they do in there time. Its not up to me to decide what anyones belifs are. If they want to be scientist during the week and worship on the weekend,really who am I to argue with them?

I've seen many sex related jokes on here. Sex jokes 'can be viewed as offensive by some.' I'm not offended, I've even laughed at the ones that were funny. Yet if I went in and "offered a different view" people would get ticked off at me for ruining something that was just supposed to be funny. So no, I have no double standard here. You decided to post an offensive comment on a post that was supposed to be funny and now you're upset that people got offended and insulting them for being offended by your offensive words. That about sums it up, I believe.

And why would I stop using stories to illustrate my points? This is a common practice, you know. I was not the first person in the world to invent this. I'm so sorry - I assumed that if the children I teach could grasp deeper meaning behind illustrative anecdotes, then certainly an adult (or teenager at the least) would be able to. I assumed wrong, apparently.

Anyway, good night, nice arguing with you.
Well I didnt think it was funny. As a matter of fact I didnt even crack a smile. I have never posted a sex joke on here so dont look at me. Stop basing your arguments on assumption. You think a teacher could use some fact to make a point. Next. I never insulted anyone either. If I directly insulted anyone it was a fictional little girl in a story that liked to threaten people with going to hell. I guess it was nice arguing with you. You havent made a point yet. Except that when you want to make a point you give some weak story that kinda soemwhat relates to the point your trying to make. So in closing. These jokes werent even funny. Im sorry but it had to be said. :cool:
Is it too late to post on topic now? :eek:
I thought the jokes were absolutely hilarious. (And I'm not religious, if anyone's wondering.)
Well, let's see now...we've covered religion, politics and sex. +1 before the lock.

One Christmas morning, my oldest brother gave me a wrapped present and a card and asked me to open it when I got home. The present was a bible and the card told me I was going to hell if I didn't join his church. Yes, he actually told me I was going to hell. I've never expressed my views (or lack thereof) to him, ever. It does happen.

Apologies to Akirah. The OP was very funny.
Oh, I thought they were funny. But you have to be in tune with that whole Art Linkletter thing, otherwise I can see why someone wouldn't find them amusing.
Ill go look that up. Ill stop posting any personal views on this now. :p Once again my apologies to the op. :)
Any scientist that dismisses religion is a bad scientist. It is impossible to prove whether God does or does not exist, so drawing any conclusion is inherently foolish. It would simply be bad logic either way. Any theory must always be open to testing.

Any theory must always be open to testing.

Fine. What's the test?
Pff that's my whole career. You think I answer these questions without pay?

Let's throw a ball into the sky. If it comes back, god willed it to. If it doesn't then he must have wanted to play with it for a while. Either that or he lost it. Can't argue with science ;)

How do you prove something dont exist. Can you provide me proof that purple elephants dont exist? Or do they exist? Tell me what test you perform to prove there non existance.

Creationism and intelligent design are not religion. They are perversions. If science cannot easily explain something the instant it is asked, jumping to "God" is certainly not the answer.

The experiment, IMO, is life, mine for me, yours for you. Inherently the conclusions are drawn upon death. At that point you will discover if there is an afterlife, if God exists, and choose to accept or reject it. Understanding the weight of choice may be what life is all about. If you are a good person and kind to others going through their own experiment, you get to complete it. If you were disruptive in the lab, you're fired (Donald Trump style, of course). This is the true basis of most monotheistic faith. Do good to others and accept God as your saviour. Anything beyond that is tradition no different from the culture of a nationality. Trying to use religion to justify anything that occurs in life (good or bad) is simply absurd. It is your life, your world. Asking ... why ... is like asking "why do we fall in love."

If you look simply at the history of religious institutions it is pretty easy to see that people pervert them for their own intentions. It's the core belief...the idea...that's the truly religious part. God gave us all a gift, however it came to be. Don't ruin it for anyone else and enjoy. That is faith.
On the contrary, most religions hold some divine being in respect...what if the perversion is on the part of man...and it's all the same. Seeing as how man perverts almost any society for personal gain historically...it isn't such an unreal presumption. Any form of afterlife may simply be the only factor involved. Stating the impossibility of a teapot floating around the sun when you can't measure for it...is as absurd as stating the improbability. I am prepared for either, are you? Catastrophic failure prevention...physicists might not need it, but the engineer in practice sure does.
I think the best thing for me to do would be to worship every one of the thousands of gods that have been worshipped over time. Doing that I would have no possibility of being wrong.Anyway. Yes your right perversion would be human fault. I cant argue that at all. I can be prepared for anything. But im not one to set myself up for dissapointment. So Ill just not worship anything until the existance of it is confirmed. I would hate to worship the wrong being.

I am prepared for either, are you? Catastrophic failure prevention...physicists might not need it, but the engineer in practice sure does.

Pascal's Wager (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pascal%27s_wager). God is impressed by your "faith". :)
HA! I love pascals wager. It funny stuff. And its weird I didnt even pick up on it. Luke sure has a way with words doesnt he! :cool:

Any scientist that dismisses religion is a bad scientist. It is impossible to prove whether God does or does not exist, so drawing any conclusion is inherently foolish. It would simply be bad logic either way. Any theory must always be open to testing.

Then a scientist must also not dismiss the flying spaghetti monster, flying saucer fanatics, etc.

Sorry, you dismiss or discount stories until some form of real and plausible evidence is presented. The bible isn't proof of anything other than physical events could have taken place not that there's some super being doing all the things no religious people can agree on he's doing. Eye witnesses and old accounts are hardly reliable today, they're certainly not reliable thousands of years ago (if they were even eye witnesses and it wasn't just stories made up with real areas and people used as background)

Though in short, why the heck are we discussing religion here.

PS: For the one that said religious people don't tell you you're going to hell, I got two words for you, Jack Chick.
Its just a friendly debate at this point. I think thats why its not locked yet. Im sure if any flaming starts then we wont be able to continue this discussion. Im very much enjoying it and happy to see no one is getting to upset. Great conversation going on here! :)

No religion, no politics, no sex – have fun!

The debate should be continued elsewhere like blah or Stratics OT.
We discussed forum rules earlier in the thread. Why make a comment on the thread like you did earlier and then say it shouldnt be talked about? Thats quite a stance your taking.
Well, just had to put in a cent or two :p
lol. Its tempting isnt it. I said earlier I would stop commenting on this thread. I just couldnt help myself!

Now there's a heaping pile of teh crazy! I love me some Jack Chick tracts!

I had some dude (probably homeless) come up to me one night asking if I wanted to buy a picture of Jesus for $1.00. I told him that I would if it was autographed. My friend ran ahead and busted out laughing. The dude thought *I* was crazy and left me alone. :)
Now THAT is a good joke!
LC666, Nos and Elro have just been bumped a couple notches up in my Book of Cool. ;)

God bless Joe Pesci
Are you guys confessing something because this thread seems to be about children and you guys all become religious?
Dude George Carlin is a brilliant man. Last night I sat down to watch the piece where he mentions Joe Pesci. I am not normally one to laugh out loud at comedy but I couldnt help myself with that one. So after that I started watching a lot of his sets on you tube. That man is absolute genius and so **** funny about it.

Are you guys confessing something because this thread seems to be about children and you guys all become religious?

Became religious??? Have you read anything? I am most assuredly non-religious.

Dude George Carlin is a brilliant man.

Perhaps my favorite Carlin quote: 'The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."'
Weren't Chick comics the ones that showed a bunch of kids going to Hell for playing Dungeons and Dragons?

Edit: Found it! (http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0046/0046_01.asp)

lol @

DM: The thief black leaf did not find the poison trap and I declare her dead!
Gamer: No, not black leaf. No! No! I'm going to die. Don't make me quit the game, please don't! Somebody save me you can't do this!

Most awesomest tract ever! I remember that one from when I *played* D&D. :cool:

Pascal's Wager (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pascal%27s_wager). God is impressed by your "faith". :)

How exactly does one...impress a being of infinite power?

Isn't that kind of a fundamental question of any religion?
Hilarious stuff. Got any more?

Bah semantics.

"How come when its a human its an abortion but when its a chicken its an omelet?"

Really it would be hard for me to pick even a few favorite lines by him. :p
Hrm this raises the question of whether a chicken is capable of having an abortion.
Well, I imagine you could think of it as forced abortion and then you could maybe draw that we in fact are eating babies. We are such meanies :mad:

Well, I imagine you could think of it as forced abortion and then you could maybe draw that we in fact are eating babies. We are such meanies :mad:

In that case they're very delicious.

edit: they're not really babies since those eggs are not fertilized
the eggs we eat are generally unfertilized
except for that one time at that thai restaurant when my friend ordered the egg with the live fetus in it but i guess thats a different story
Speaking of eggs...

Never, ever order Balut. My wife is part Filipino, and warned me.
My dad lived in the Phillipines for a time... I remember him talking about Balut... I don't think he said anything good, though.
What eating a duck still in an egg that has been left to ferment in a humid warm hole in the ground for a couple of weeks doenst sound appetizing?

If you want to go the egg similiar to abortion then we are all cannibals (except for those hippie vegetarians) cause we eat meat.

It is funny to see how many groups say that if you dont believe in what we do then you are wrong. Even Christians cant even agree (ever read the Mormon bible? weird stuff) who is more right.

Personally I am in awe of the world we live in and how many people try to put rules down that say how it started and how it will end. When this happens I like to go scuba diving. People cant talk to you and if they try and write it down you just swim away.....all the while enjoying the world.

Places I have experiened deep thoughts:
Scuba Diving
Mowing the yard
Sitting on the pot without reading material
While soloing an aircraft (all though these mainly revolve around not killing myself by doing something dumb)
Out hiking

To each his own and I will be ****ed if anyone ever tries to educate me to believe the way they do.

p.s. Sci Fi channel where is the new season of Ghost Hunters!!!!!!!!!!!

Places I have experiened deep thoughts:
Scuba Diving

Narcing out?

Mowing the yard

Carbon monoxide fumes?

Sitting on the pot without reading material

Methane poisoning?
Now you understand why those are the places where I have deep thoughts.
Yeah I guess since we share a common ancestor you could see it as canibalism. That makes it even more awesome, because even vegans are eating a part of thier own DNA.

But, chickens will even eat thier own eggs so they are no better than us. Then again dogs will eat their own *****, but I'm not gonna go any further than that.
LOL

I see another person has one of the deep thought locations I mentioned. So did you feel lighter when you posted that?

LMAO
cannibal is defined as an animal which eats it's own kind. Your example of a chicken egg is a false analogy. A chicken contributes nothing to our genetic pool and from an evolutionary standpoint is superfluous. In fact given that humans have a digestive tract allowing for consumption of meat it's arguable that we are evolved such that we eliminate species which can be used as food.

There's nothign cannibalistic about eating non-humans. There is actually a reasonable arguement that using them as food allows for greater survival potential for our species, indicating that it is beneficial to the species to eat such animals while canibalilism is in general a detriment to the survival of certain members.
And rabbits eat their **** (cecotropes) on purpose, and many animals eat their own young.

So in other words, we could be eating worse than eggs XD
Elephant babies eat their mothers **** to get necessary bacteria into their digestive systems.

A new alpha male lion will kill and eat all of the cubs it did not father.

Feral house cat males routinely try to kill all of the kittens it did not father.

Circle of life...
Well after all this I feel better now! I see everyone has the ability to derail a thread as well as me! Good Job! :cool: Anyway friends on this thread,My L2 acocunt expires in 2 days. I dotn play near enough to even consider renewing it right now. So I thin I wont be able to post here after my account is off. So see you all around! Sovrath See ya in Aion buddy! :cool:
Good luck, dude.

Later man.

Still think the OP's anecdotes were funny :)
There are some in our "educated society" who say that in the beginning God created... (intellegent design). The other side says in the beginning there was a pea, then it exploded and formed the entire universe (Big Bang Theory). Athiests don't believe in an all powerful being who always existed and made everything, but they believe in the "singularity"; the pea from which the entire universe sprang during the big bang. Gee, where did the singularity come from before it exploded? Was it just always there, and why did it just suddenly explode? Talk about faith vs scientific proofs!!! It seams both positions take some element of faith doesn't it?

Many who have undertaken an effort to redicule the Bible have done so with a closed mind. Because they don't have good arguements they tend to call names and make fun. Most people who make arguments against the Bible have never really read it through or studied it well enough to form opinions, let alone draw conclusions regarding it's accuracy or credibility. However, many of the greatest minds, like Newton, Michael Faraday, Robert Boyle, Johannes Kepler, and Sir Fancis Bacon, who by the way, is known for establishing the scientific method of inquiry based on experimentation and inductive reasoning, believed in God. Many of these men, and many more who I have not mentioned here, not only studied the Bible but had great admiration for it.

By the way, contrary to popular belief, the bible does not teach and never has taught that the world is flat. Columbus was not the first person to state that the world was round, the Bible delared it thousands of years before Jesus was born, and the text was translated into greek (the Septuigent) around 150BCE.

NOS, I would like to know where science has ever disproved anything in the Bible. I would be happy to address any proofs you may have one-by-one. If you think the cosmos was all formed by chance, remember the words of Albert Einstein, "God does'nt play dice".

Akirah, I loved your humor. I really enjoyed reading your post and chuckled all the way through. ;)
When I first started reading this thread I just had to reply. Had I known this thread was 9 pages long when I posted my reply, I wouldn't have posted it.

Why shouldn't we be able to talk about God in a civil maner? L2 is full of gods and demigods. For example, the Nephilim we hunt in the lower places of Aden, where do you think that name comes from? It's a Hebrew word which means the fallen ones. It comes straight out of the Bible, yup the Book of Genesis. So why should a source L2 has drawn from in creating the charactors in the game be taboo to speak of in their official forums?
HI! I stopped reading your post at the part where you decided to talk about how you know what everyone beleives. I posted a video earlier that said "unlike religion science doesnt claim to have all the answers" Im not going to read your post. Atheist believes that peas are exploding all over that place! Lets just go with that and now we all understand each other.

Why shouldn't we be able to talk about God in a civil maner?

Im guessing you just kinda skipped over most of the threads. There was no falimng at all in this thread. Seems civil to me. :confused:
Civil manner to a lot of people is asking someone to give their thoughts and then posting lots of reasons why the first person is wrong and ignorant. This is why most don't bother with religious discussions, like myself ;)
I guess you could call it creative discussion.

BTW my linking eating meat to us being cannibals was a joke. Thanks for the digression on our digestive tracts.

Nos you always threaten leaving and then come back. I give you maybe two weeks before you succomb to the urge to log on again. How is the wife doing and has your kid become a little monster yet? LIke I said two weeks tops before you renew. LOL

Civilized discussion about religion? Never!!!!!!!! Its like discussing politics. Everyone has an opinion and they all stink!!!

Oh well I think I have another deep thought session coming up quick I need reading material! :)
Im just saying Im not going to respond to a thought that says all atheist believe in the exploding peas. I have never seen a pea explode therefore I cannot comment. :p

Anyway Dread. I havent even logged into L2 for over a month. Except to give my wife all my gear. Maybe Im just being a poor sport but here is how it all looks to me right now. I can start the game at level 1 and go to a seige and be a 1 shot kill. Seems perfectly logical to me. Then I can grind out 52 levels and show up to a seige and be a......1 shot kill. Now Im not asking to be able to kill a level 70+ but,I would at least like to get a look at them before taking a dirt nap. I have no time to grind out 70+ levels. I dont mind that people can beat me. Not at all. It took me 2 years to find out, L2 is not the game for me. My account as of tomorrow will be turned off and all my toons are completely stripped. I will just wait for a game where I dont have to mindlessly kill millions of mobs to finally get to do something. Oh and also..After much wiring and purchasing new stuff I have set up a complete home studio to start recording again.I think its more important at this point to pursue my music,Even if the L2 remix contest says Im not good enough. :p

Nice blanket statement, but Athiests aren't a collective organization. We tend to be skeptics not of just religion but of many ideas. Solid proof is generally held in high regards. Not ALL athiests put so much stock in the big bang theory as others.

Your entire post is the same rhetoric I hear time and time again from fundie christians. And I use that term in the lightest possible manner. I don't group Theists in this way because I realize many have differing beliefs. Some have some real bug-nutty Ideas and beliefs whereas others take a more Naturalistic approach to the world. Athiests are just people too and we have different ideas and opinions.

I'll tell ya though, a Thiest is almost as equal to an Athiests. The only real difference is an Athiest takes his/her disbelief one god further.
In the end you all lose out.

Us agnostics and/or humanists get to spend our time on much more constructive things than arguing theology in an L2 OT forum.

Face it, nobody has come up with a new argument in years. Just let Richard Dawkins and the church battle it out.
I dont think conversation is a waste of time. No one has said the other person is wrong in this thread. Not that I see anyway. So I dont see the argument. Were just tossing ideas back and forth. Its all for good conversation man. :)
I'm Athiest Agnostic. But you do realize the two words are not a replacement for the other. Agnostic= Without Knowledge Athiest= Without God. Sure, nobody can Know if there is a supreme being or not, but I tend to mentally put it on a probablity list. The probability of an Abrahamic god's existance to me is equally as probable as those of the Hindus or other Pagan gods. So I am agnostic in that I cannot know whether any of these could be real, but I'm also Athiest as I find it highly improbable of any conventional religion that has the absolute truth.

I don't really like to call myself an <insert label here>. Whatever the label may mean, It's not directly relevant to who I am.

Whatever the label may mean, It's not directly relevant to who I am.

Bravo. Don't judge me by what I may (or may not) call myself but by my actions.
GL with the music Nos.
Well thanks. Since this thread is destroyed lol I can explain a bit. Seems word got out in my work place that im a musician. So one guy comes and asks me to do a special project from him. This project involves rap music which Im not at all a fan of. But he asked me to remix 2 rap songs so that he can use them at breakdancing contests that he hosts. I needed something to get me going again so I take on the project. He told me the tracks were succesful at his contest. Then another guy hears about it and comes to talk to me. This guy makes video games. I dont know how to do all that stuff so I was impressed. Anyway He asked me to do some of the music for this game. Turns out its a cyberpunk type game and my music fits well into that genre. These 2 things were all I needed to go drop $600 on a new synthesizer and rebuild my pc to handle the load of my madness. After that was done I had to figure out an all new way to record. With a 6 month old baby in the house it wasnt practical to run my stuff through my amp anymore. I needed to figure out a way to keep it all on headphones and still have the flexibility I had before. No easy task let me tell you! After about 6 hours of plugging and unplugging wires,drinking beers,and alot of swearing I had it all working! I have made a completely soundproof method of recording all in the middle of my living room where the rest of my family spends most of there time! They dont hear a thing! :) good story huh? :p
the important fact is science can never win this argument
their beliefs are based on fact and religion is based on faith

as weird as all our emotional problems coming from an alien race's ghosts that crashed to earth billions of years ago (scientology) sounds it requires no proof for the religion to still function
it is however cool seeing a bunch of paleontologists freak out when they found a new foot bone on some billion year old dino that they never knew existed
HI! I was done with this argument about 3 or 4 pages ago. :p
In modern times we seen freak mutations. People with two heads, more than 1 set of arms or legs, and some with tails. Should we happen to nuke ourselves to oblivion it's possible someone in the future will dig those guys up and say, "Oh, new species!"

I'm one who believes in a higher power. But this thread brings up an interesting question and that would be "Is there a higher being that made the higher power?" In other words, was there a pea in a pea?

In modern times we seen freak mutations. People with two heads, more than 1 set of arms or legs, and some with tails. Should we happen to nuke ourselves to oblivion it's possible someone in the future will dig those guys up and say, "Oh, new species!"

Not sure about that. Once watched a Nat Geo program about a deformed ape that they thought was a new species. After genetic testing they found out it was just that, a deformed ape.

Exactly. So sometimes someone discovers a fossil with extra bones and it could just be a deformed animal. There are very few people with six toes or six fingers but we don't consider them a different specie.

This might be interesting if paleontologists were convinced they had found every dino that ever existed. Hint, they don't.

poorly worded sentence structure sorry
i meant a foot bone they never knew existed on a billion year old dino
not a foot bone on a billion year old dino they never knew existed
how do you get the avatar to post?
First let me say that I do not wish to insult the beliefs of any theists, atheists, or agnostics. You have the right to believe what you wish and teach your children your most cherished values. I try to keep an open mind and I refuse to blindly believe the dogma of either side, so I ask questions.
It's true I didn't read the whole thread before I replied; I was only on the first reply when I noticed the remarks made there. 1.) “brain washing from her religuos parents” 2.) “that science has disproved the stories of the bible many time” 3.) “maybe there is still hope she will get smarter when she gets older” (implying that people of faith are stupid.) I read the whole thread after my first post. I'll comment of some of those when I figure out how. I'm new at this messageboard thing.
I do not presume to know what everyone believes, nor did I ever say that I did.
My post was never intended as a thesis of all the possible theories that “everyone believes”. I have neither the space to post such a dissertation here nor the omniscience to attempt such a feat.

I presented dialectic of two prominent opposing worldviews (not all views) and then I presented a proposition that both prominent belief systems were based on faith.

Science is knowledge aquired from the observations of phemonina through the application of the scientific method. Big Bang is a theory and so is Evolution. The scientific community has yet to prove either, therefore both theories remain theories to this day. The word “theory” is synonymous with hypothesis, conjecture, speculation, assumption, presumption, and supposition. Therefore since a theory is something in the realm of guesswork, it is unknown and it therefore requires an element of faith to adhere to.

When someone makes a statement and presents it as fact it is reasonable to ask for verification. If we are seeking truth then we should ask for proof.

Nos you made the claim that “science has disproved the stories of the bible many time”. I don’t know of any scientific proof disproving the Bible. What I have read regarding scientific proofs seams to prove the Bible. Archeology, for example, has made many findings that prove the veracity of many of the historical accounts recorded in the Bible. I admit that just because I have never heard of these scientific proofs that does not mean they do not exist, so I ask you, honestly, show me some examples to verify your claim.

lol i actually seen a pretty good episode of an australian show you guys have prolly never heard of "john saffron vs god"
basically what he done was went to the city with all the mormans and started door knocking to convert them to atheism

... went to the city with all the mormans and started door knocking to convert them to atheism

Hi. Have you lost Jesus?

I so have to try that on the next door-knockers I get.
RTLFC

Hi hi!
I have the Key of Understanding ($199 + carriage if anyone is interrested). This thread hath been derailed because God wanted it that way. Erm no. In fact those are not jokes for non-christans :(
There's no punch line if you don't believe in Heaven and Hell. I'm sorry, but bringing lil' Jonny n' his whale to counter the teacher's explanation is clumsy. Replace Jonah by Pinocchio and everybody will understand what's fun is to make children tales the reference over reality. When it's a religious tale, it brings akward feelings because some people actually believe that those tales are a truth. A joke must be clear for everyone. People refrain from laughing if they have a doubt on the signification.
And "you will go to hell"... when you're not christian... well great but that doesn't make any sense. It doesn't make a reason not to mess with children.

The other jokes, I flew over them and detected the words "God" and His pals so I didn't even read them.

Conclusion : if you want to write joke for everybody here, forget christian jokes. We're not all sensible to them :(
I don't know, make jokes about Einhasad and Gran Kain :p

I don't know, make jokes about Einhasad and Gran Kain :p

Waw great idea, me!

Lineage jokes!
So... there are an orc, a dark elf and a dwarf in a plane. The plane is going to crash... so they must farm hundreds of mobs so the npc gives them a parachute.

Ok. I should stop there, I know :eek:

Hi. Have you lost Jesus?

I think I will also have to remember this the next time someone asks me, "have you found Jesus?"

I love the idea of giving them a confused look and then saying, "Why? Have you lost him?"
You shoudl try politely declining, it's not something they get often.
Last time some asked me if I had found Jesus, I said "No, but if you see him let me know he owes me $200."

I got a rather angry stare.
Had some Mormons knock on my door a few months back.

Did you know that they are trained REALLY well? When you answer the door nude (not a pretty sight, trust me), they don't break eye contact.

Conclusion : if you want to write joke for everybody here, forget christian jokes. We're not all sensible to them :(

Then don't read them. I don't find British humor to be very funny in most cases, should I ask them to stop making jokes? Now the use of the word "God" in a sentence has upset somebody. This is where atheists get a bad rap. The people who worry so much about whether the word "God" is printed on money or in the Constitution.

Words only carry the meaning that you place upon them. If you don't want to say "under God" because you think Jesus was a fairy tale, good for you. I still think you should say the Pledge of Allegiance and so should your children. If you don't like the word "God," establish that with your own children. I'm a Catholic, my neighbor is a Lutheran. Should I be offended about what he might be thinking about when he says the word "God"? If you want to say the word "God," laugh to yourself, and think "insert randomness of the universe," go for it.

It's equally ******ed for an atheist to sit there and say "saying God in public is bad" as it is for the ultra conservative christian to say "saying there is no God in public is bad." You can both blow it out your ***. Think what you want, I'm glad you're thinking as most people don't seem to. My duty to "spread the Good News" as they say, stops at being a simple example of how faith and science do, in fact, reconcile quite easily. They are not seperate, they are not the same. They just overlap. When there is conflict, only an idiot would assume one side was correct. This is where many theists act like idiots and say faith supercedes science. If you are "made in the image of God" then you're supposed to have the gift of reasoning...USE IT.
"No, I dont know that atheist should be considered as citizens,Nor should the be considered as patriots.This is one nation under god."

-George Bush

This is why religion is a problem. Should I still say the pledge of allegiance and simply leave out the "under god" part? How much you want to bet that incident would make national news? Should I still "blow it out my ***" mister sith? Im just as much American as the next guy. But because I dont believe in fairy tales I should not be considered a citizen? This is one of the many reasons religion is dangerous. Our nations leaders even say we should not be considered citizens.Your possibly the worst "scientist" I have ever talked to. In one thread you stated you would not be foolish enough to believe things like global warming exist. Global warming has at least some scientific evidence to back it up. In part of this thread you stated that a scientist must believe in everything until it is absolutly proved to be false. Your credibility as a "scientist" is really slipping buddy. ;)
To end this discussion I must inform everyone that the invisible purple robot fish from the planet Aquaductia are planning to attack next tuesday because the Flying Spagehtti Monster has told them to smite the non believers.

Honestly, I dont want to believe in something that doesnt follow its own values. More people have been slaughtered in the name of supposedly peaceful religions than 1 person could count in a lifetime.
George Carlin said it best:

The more devout a man is, the more "Thou shalt not kill" is seen as being negotiable.

Conclusion : if you want to write joke for everybody here, forget christian jokes. We're not all sensible to them :(

Then don't read them. I don't find British humor to be very funny in most cases, should I ask them to stop making jokes?

Duh! I'm not asking to stop making jokes. There's a IF in the phrase you quote. And in the part you don't quote I actually wrote I didn't read the reast of the jokes.
"Don't read them"... then the title should be "jokes for christians", so I actually don't even attempt to read them.

For the rest, I don't care if Jesus existed, didn't exist, was a flying spaghetti monster or a faery. I never said saying God in public is bad, so I don't care about the whole paragraph you wrote to convince yourself you're right. :confused:
Pray your God(s), but don't become paranoid.
If my gods were Alah would it be funny then?
