The following is just a guess since I really have no idea but it is a possibility. But first, let's start with a comparable story.
I used to play a game where I was privy to the development and coding. In the game there might be 12K monsters at a given time. One day the developers decided to make some rare items drop and those items can be exchanged for nice gears. But the items had to be rare and limited. The implementation was there would be 50 items at a given time that can drop. Each item was linked to a mob in the game. When a mob linked to the item is killed then the item drops. Another link is randomly generated so there will always be 50 different possible mobs that can drop the item. Note, this is not mob type, it is a specific mob. It can be done because each mob will have a unique ID.
So I think the Zariche is done this way. When it disappears some random generator picks a random mob for the Z sword and links to it. When that mob is killed the sword drops. This means a sweep of all areas after the Z sword vanishes should yield something.
The one I'm not really certain about is levels. Can a level 75 kill a level 35 mob linked to the Z sword still get the sword?
Anyway this is just my guess and hopefully we can start a discussion on it.
I dont think its like this. Atleast on my server its drops alot at places where the "afk-people" level so that means most of the time its either around a starter village or in a catacomb.
I would think that any mob in the game have a % of dropping the sword, same rate as a full drop.
i think every mob in game has a chance to drop the sword at a very very low rate
if your server is like mine then more often than not the sword drops in lvl 20ish areas with our little souless buddies
i believe that happens due to fast kill speed and masses of ppl hunting in said area

On Sieg it drops a lot in the same low lvl areas yes. Haven't seen it drop in MoS or ToI yet.
On our server I've seen it drop anywhere from Rune areas to Gludio areas and any place in between. So yes it is totally random. Only a few times did it drop in starter areas like DEV and Dwarven village areas, most times it's in the upper areas around Goddard and Aden it seems.
It's dropped to my clan in imperial tomb before, but yeah it seems to have an equal chance from all mobs which means that lowbie areas tend to have a better droprate.

yup my idea exactly
the faster you kill, the more ppl killing the more likely your chances of haveing it drop in said area
ive only once seen it drop and that was for my sister while i was looking over her shoulder
it dropped at shrine while they had a full zerg of nukers doing the 700 mob quest so once again fast kills - good drops
Every monster in the game can drop the sword.
Everyplayer has a chance to get the sword when it is not currently in possesion. Since there are a lot of people that grind in the low level areas (bots or real people), thats why everyone thinks that it drops there often.
Personally on bartz once you see the sword appear and it gets picked up, you just see the server's main alliance all go running to kill the person with it so they can have it themselves. I actually think thats awsome.
Anyway, any monster can drop it, and if you hunt monsters and 1 hit them, then yes you kill faster and are more likely to have it as a drop. Doesnt mean you are going to get it, personally i wouldnt want the sword, i would be dead within seconds.
I made this post to somwhat inform of what I thought and to get other peoples thoughts on the matter. Maybe next time I'll try to aoe the DE swamp or mithril mines.
Heres where i think the problem is.
Everyone clicks on their map, clicks find sword and sees where it is, and assumes thats where it dropped.
Or people click find sword once they see the system message about the sword logging in, and they see where it is and assume thats where it drops.
You have to watch out for when you see the system message saying that the sword was actually dropped from a monster, not that the player who owns it just logged in.
Basically, when you screen shakes a lot, look at the map, thats where it dropped.
I would assume that on all servers the biggest clan on the server controls the sword (as on Bartz and Lionna). So where ever that clan decides to level with the sword, thats where you will more than likely see it all the time.
That is not to say that the sword dropped there.
Hope that helped :/
