I think so too elliebelly BUT he asks why its reduced to ashes in Lineage 1 which takes place after Lineage 2.But still i would think the reason is the same...
Actually in Lineage 1, Gludio was around until Episode 2, I think. What happened was the Lastabad Dark Elves (npc race), who look like the L2 DE's, attacked and burned it to the ground. The true Dark Elves (brown elves...see my avatar), are the playable race in L1.
First there was Brown and Light elves. Then after Brown elves started practicing dark magic and following Gran Kain/Shilen a war between Brown and Light started. The light elves casted a bad spell on the LANDS and RACE of the Brown elves and turned them into a wasteland. The skin of the Brown elves turned Dark :) so this sums it up.
I would suggest that the Brown elves in L1 somehow converted back from Dark and the Dark ones burned Gludio...
Thats what I just said. Except without going into much detail.
**Edit- The Brown elves in L1 are still called Dark Elves, but there is an npc faction of Dark Elves called the Lastabad Dark Elves. Who look like the L2 DE's. I can't remember the exact lore behind it, but that pretty much sums up the explanation.
That much we know, I'm explaining that they didn't attack it and raze it to the ground in Lineage 1 though. I don't really prefer to go around in circles on this, but your theory that they did it in L1 also was wrong is all I'm trying to get across. :D
AFAIK elves and dark elves decided to have a go at it and it was just as ugly as what happened the first time around.
so Dark elves and Light elves allied temporarily before the DE decided to go practice dark magic?
They were just Elves before the Dark Elves practiced Dark Magic yes.
So yes they were just one family
According to L2 lore there were at least 3 elven races. Wood elves, light elves, and brown elves. They all worked together with the humans to battle the orcs. When the humans turned on the elves and declared themselves the new rulers of the lands the brown elves turned to the same dark arts the humans had discovered while learning magic from the elves. They did this to try and gain the power to defeat the humans. This angered the other two elven races and they cast them out. In a backlash the brown elves (now cast out and deemed dark elves) killed the entire wood elven nation down the last wood elf.
What can I say, I liked the lore............. too bad they don't use it more to shape the game. For example, I've never understood why a priest or priestess of Shilen would learn to practice and preach the arts of Einhasaad..... Shilen's most hated enemy (mother/daughter breakdowns and hatreds are great in games aren't they? lol).

I think its got to do with they're desire to use ppl for they're own benefit :D
It would be cool to see wood elves... like they make some wierd return to the forests.
Some of the class change quests (human) get into much of this history as well. The game lore is quite deep and detailed for those who bother to explore it, I have always felt that those who critisized the L2 depth of story were generally misinformed (read as too lazy to find it, not NCSoft's fault)
Generally thats because the quests in L2 are about getting from point A to point B and unless you really pay attention and do a lot of different quests/CCQs you are going to miss out on it all.

It also changes frequently, and is, in places, contradictory.
The war with Gracia happens before the current L2 timeline, which is 150 years prior to the L1 setting. This is why parts of Gludin seem to be damaged, and why the Ol Mahum are even on the continent anyway (being Gracian mercenaries left behind when Gracia was defeated).
The use of Dark Magic, or lack of, is a cultural trait of elves, not a matter of availability or skill. Trader Creamees of the Light Elven Village is the elf responsible for Kirkunel (sp?) being summoned in the Elven Fortress to defeat the dark elves. He's also probably responsible for Maxiel, the Herald, too, but the story doesn't get into that.
It'd be nice to have a quest-journal in the game that records your quest-dialogue with NPCs and logs what quests you have completed thus far in your career.
Yes, SWG had that, and it was a great way of remembering all of your character's past actions !
Let's move this to "Game Suggestions", i bet it wouldnt be too hard to implement ! :)
^_^ i play l1 From time to time, but i lost alot of levels and alot of money before i had quit, its good to see old friends time to time, tho they are insanely high level. miss lin 1..
I kind of like the idea of some sort of chronicle book to look up the history...
Could be put in the churches and may be not even a book. More like a relic. :D
This would be sooo appropriate for L1 or L2
