was Spoil nerfed?

I used to be a dwarf over 2 years ago on another server, with level 1 spoil I remember getting a lot more stuff to spoil.

How stuff my level , it spoils like 1/4 times.

Was the % of spoil possibility changed?
Spoil hasn't changed much if at all.

Lvl 1 spoil works ok up to about lvl 25 mobs. After that, it's pretty much a shot in the dark.

In general, spoil works reliably (90%+) on mobs that are white and yellow. At pink, it drops to about 70%, but this can vary with level and specific mob. On just barely red mobs, you're still at around 50%, but as the level gap grows, that % drops off quickly.

In all actuality, whether or not spoil lands is not so much related to your lvl vs mob lvl, but to the spoil lvl vs mob lvl. So what I said above is skewed slightly when you are close to getting a new lvl of spoil. ie at lvl 63, you will have some trouble spoiling pink mobs, but once you get your new spoil at 64, those same pink mobs start spoiling much easier.

In addition to that, there are two aspects to spoil - first whether it actually lands, and you get the system message that the mob has been spoiled. Second - whether or not you actually get anything.

If spoil is landing, but you are not getting anything, then most likely that mob spoils stuff that has a low probability - recipes, components, etc.

was Spoil nerfed?

Yes, multiple times since C1.

Sad Kitten
rofl kitty.. that's not what he was talking about though. :P

and welcome back, haven't seen you in a while. :)

ohh and to the OP. Yes.. NCSoft has changed the spoil tables multiple times since the old days.. so if something used to spoil varnish or whatever, it may spoil something different now.
Getting more stuff with spoil does sound like rate of turning blue.

And then, kitten is right. :(
WTB Interlude refinement: spoil!!!!
I was talking about how often something turns blue when I spoil it.

Someone said whites and yellows turn blue about 90% of the time.

I am killing whites and blue and am level 16 with lvl 1 spoil and they turn blue like 1/8 times....

Nowhere near 90%
That depence on what mobs you spoil.

Some mobs, eg have just 3 recipe spoils, all over 1/300 spoil rate eg, wich meens no where nere 90% chance.

Then there can be mobs who spoil 3 different mats and each have an chance of 30%.
That however is a much bigger chance to get something almost every time.

There is even things who got an horrible spoil rate such as 1/8000 rate....

This is how spoil works.
Depends on the spoil table of that thing.

When the spoil landed and after the monster is killed is when the system looks up in the "spoil table" what available spoils there are. In almost all such tables, there exists an entry "nothing", with more or less big chance of happening. If the systems randomly chooses this "nothing", the dead monster's body doesn't turn blue, either.

To clarify,

1)Spoil needs to "Land". AKA "The Spoil Condition has been activated."

This solely depends on your level of spoil. And when successful there is a system message.

2)Once a mob is spoiled, the 'spoil' tables are activated and just like drops, there is a CHANCE that the mob will turn blue based on the 'spoil rates' of each possible spoil. No blue = all the possible spoils rolls failed.

EXAMPLE: Tamlin Orcs (L41 mob) Possible spoils are;

Steel (7.98%)
Omen Beast's Eye Earring Gem (7.77%)
Recipe: Heavy Doom Hammer (1/287)

If you are a L40 Bounty Hunter (L4 Spoil skill, learned at L36) your chance to 'land' the spoil condition may be around ~60%. When you level to L43 and learn Spoil L5, that chance should rise to ~95%. If you are a L43 Warsmith with L1 Spoil, your chance of landing the spoil condition on that mob may only be ~1%. (The greater the mob lvl versus the lvl of spoil the lower the %)

Once the spoil condition is activated AND you kill the mob, the game runs through the %'s for each spoil in the same way as it does for each normal drop. (Unaffected by manor seeds, but IS affected by level!) IF any one of those rolls for each spoil succeeds, then the mob turns blue and you can sweep the mob to claim the spoils.

From the example above, you can see how it may be quite easy to "Land" a spoil on the mob, but the actual chances to get an item from a successful spoil can be fairly low. (AKA mobs don't turn blue.) In fact, mobs with 'good' spoil rates are far more rare than mobs with low (< 50%) rates. Most non-Base material spoils are in the <10% rate range as well. And many fall into the < 1/200 chance range. Although considering the #of mobs you need to kill to level, this isn't all that horrible most of the time. It's when key items/recipes aren't spoilable AT ALL that things fall into the crapper. Usually there's only a couple of mobs every 10 levels that are 'worth' hunting if your not looking for a specific spoil. (AKA >70% spoil on basic items or >2% chance on a key/other spoil.)

If you are a L43 Warsmith with L1 Spoil, your chance of landing the spoil condition on that mob may only be ~1%.

This one seems to be around 5% for mobs of the Warsmith's level, actually - not matter the level.
I've been killing the exact same mob a dozen times and I spoiled the first time and never the 10 other times. I don't think it s colossal bad luck I think it s because to get decent spoil results you need to change to another mob quite often.

So yes, if you keep on the same monster then it s going to be nerfed in my opinion.
If you are getting the successful spoil system message, I think the only variables on the mob turning blue are your lvl vs mob lvl and the spoil table.

I've spoiled the same mob over and over for hours.. well.. the same 3 or 4 mobs (like in a cata room) and never noticed anything unusual with the spoil rates.

As with drops though - if the mob is blue, your chances of the mob turning blue are reduced.

And there's the luck factor - I have spoiled 2 recipes that are 1/2000 within 20 minutes of each other.. and I have seen it take 8 hours to spoil a recipe that's supposed to be 1/200. meh - some days are better than others.

All BH's should be looking at the spoil tables on stratics and that other site that cannot be named in here on a very regular basis. As a spoiler you need to be aware of what mobs you should be going after as you level up.

Because you got screwed on skills in exchange for having spoil, you had better put that [censored] to good use!!
LOLOLOLOLOL...I retired my lvl 66 BH because spoil (it's only decent skill) was and continues to be BROKEN. I was don't know how many times I went 2+ buff rounds with 1 -2 spoil successes. And then those "spoils" were useless black ore ring parts or other similar useless item. It made the whole grind more boring and pointless then it already was...if you get my meaning.
I definitely wouldn't categorise spoil as a useless skill, but it is one that takes alot of outside game research to be usefull.

I would say that having spoil is definitely not worth giving up all other PvP skills until 77+ for, which is essentially what you are doing if you go BH.

It isn't that spoil isn't worth it, that is to say the skill itself is fine....

...it's the SPOIL TABLES that are wholly not worth it. Both the spoil %'s and the spoil selections as well. Even with the current state of seeding for base materials, actual recipe and key material spoils are almost completely crap IF they are there at all. You are far more likely to get what you need from a drop or a quest than you are from a spoil most of the time. Add the unbalanced anti-spoiler 'spoil share' option for grouping and it's a wonder anyone plays them at all.
From one dwarf to another.....

The spoil tables need a revamp!
I dunno.. it's a funny thing with spoil and the BH class.

Looking back over 75+ levels, that I took my time getting and tried to hunt mobs for either quests or spoils more than XP, I have to say that spoil is very effective and useful.

The thing about it is that it is a long term skill moreso than a short term skill. If you look at a weeks worth of spoils, you might have something, but more than likely not much. If you look at 2 yrs of spoils, now you are talking about ALOT of stuff.

Being a clan leader, I have grouped for almost my entire time and so a large portion of my spoils have been spread across my clan.

In the long run, we're talking about probably a 15 to 20% increase in wealth for myself over a regular player, and that probably comes out to 5 or 10% increase for the majority of the clan members who have been with me through it all.

In the big picture, that is significant.

In the short run though, it isn't squat. Even worse, having to sacrifice all PvP ability is worth it for some, but not for most.

Prophets, SE's, Bish's, SWS, BD - those are all group support classes.

BH and WS - they are clan support classes
OL - they are alliance support classes.

At least the other support classes have important roles in PvP. I suppose you could say that BH has a very indirect role in PvP for his clan, but still even with that, I mean come on, a single mostly useless PvP skill before lvl 77?

All of this is before we factor in any kind of cheating. Now, if cheating were monitored and punished, BH's would have alot bigger role in a clan's success, but since it isn't, they don't.
It took me two hours once of spoiling before the mob turned blue, and all i got out of it was one thread. >.<

Short and Long term.... It needs some revamp :)
ohh I agree, they need to fix BH's and take a close look at the spoil tables. IMO those spoil tables are broken for legit players because they have to take into account all of the one's that play 24/7.

So realistically.. if they did change them it would make pretty much no difference, because while you might get a little more of what you want.. the guy in the next room would be getting TONS more.. which would cause your stuff to be worth less.
Well spoiling A grade armor recipes sure is nice.
My biggest problem is B grade recipes. Some aren't too bad, like AoBA, however I've been trying to find a damamascus recipe, and it's incredibly hard for even a group of upper 50's to farm. You almost have to be in A grade to get one.

/Gets up and does a backstreet dance

/Sits back down and shakes finger

I don't believe it, and if they are they shouldn't be. I'm all for dynamic content, but maybe we need to become more static.
Well what about SoV recipes? Some recipes are just too HARD to get.Its not a nerf to BHs for one.Its a nerf to everyone that wants the item.
I'm all for hard to get recipes spoils. But spending 2 hours on my level 25 dwarf just to get one thread?

Or how about a person that spends hours spoiling level 65 monsters just to get thread...... :)
SoV is pretty much 'craft 60%' ... that recipe does spoil, and not too difficult to do either.

But yeh, I think all recipes and key mats should spoil somewhere. >< Having 'drop only' recipes is incredibly backwards.

SoV

English people....

Some of us are Orcs yah know. :)
Sword of Valhalla.
LOL I was going to say the same thing about our lil soulless friends but I thought it was not that relevant. (And because I really don't want to think about how much impact they really have on the game and about NcSofts' somewhat less then effective methods of dealing with them, blah blah blah...ya know what I mean).

In the end its clear to me that Spoil is broken (for whatever reason) and needs to be fixed.

WTB Interlude refinement: spoil!!!!

WTB Refinement: Sweep! :p
Party me kk?

put that on a pole and ill buy it.
Interlude is introducing a sweep festival.. but that does not help the spoil tables being to low. Esspeicaly since Manor give so much more of base mats for ones time spent.

no it's a fake : no festival sweep into Interlude.
btw +1 for idea on items for refinement's item spoilable.

If you're doing that, it's your own fault for fighting the wrong mobs, go somewhere else.

But realistically.. take the number I mentioned earlier - increased gain over regular players of 20%.. hell, let's say 30% and go with a high number.

How much does a player earn hunting from lvl 1 to 75? 100 mil?? That number is probably high.. but what the hell we'll use it..

so what a BH earns 120-130 mil..

Is that extra income worth not having any PvP skills? HELL NO IT AINT.
WS spoil success rate is 5% or 1 in 20
doesnt seem to matter how high the mob is but gl trying to spoil blue mobs

not much you can do for you guys
spoil is screwed because there are farmers
there will always be farmers so it will always be screwed
obviously you guys need a huge pvp boost regardless since its not exactly hard to make adena without spoil

The yummy ones always have less than yummy spoil rates
