beating myself up.

My return to the game the best way I could describe it was brutal.
I got pk'd a lot, stupidly squandered all my adena on trying to OE something, and have been constantly killed by npc's because of bad lag.

I am discouraged and upset.

I got so fustrated before I quit my clan I was in because I was sure I was gona quit the game.

But as usualy something about the game keeps drawing me back in.

I feel like a someone in a abusive relationship, where il have the *** beat out of me and then for some reason go back to the person thinking everything will change for the better.

This must be my 8th time quitting Lineage 2....

Im trying to figure out what my problem is, I manage to get insanely fustrated past the point of considering it a game which is one issue I have on all mmorpg's.

I burn my self out then decide to come back over and over.

I also have trouble sticking with stuff that gets tough, I keep rerolling for a class that I would have more fun with, I think the only reason im rerolling is because I cant stand the grind.

I get impatient trying to get from 16---> 17, how will I handle getting from 79-80.

And I have a lot of time on my hands because of certain disabilities and playing computer games is my way of killing a lot of time.

Anyone have any advice?
You don't have the right mental outlook for the game....

For starters playing to the point of burning yourself out. You need to stop and smell the ingame flowers.

What races/classes have you played so far?
Well, ive played orcs went up to a lvl 36 shaman,

got up to a 28 DE assassin

up to a 34 dwarf on another server

those were my highest.

I am now a 16 dwarf going scavy...

I know its gonna be like the toughest grinding class to play. and considering my situation thats stupid but I have fun crafting and getting the chance of cool loot.

I figure when I sub way later I can sub a good pvp class, nothing better than a dwarf launching a fireball at ya :)
Heh. I feel the exact same way as you describe sometimes. Especially this about trying to find a funnier character. And once i've re-rolled i'm in a hurry to get back where i was before and somewhere on the way i get bored cause i'm always in a hurry.

Think splatter is right.. We need to stop and look around once in a while :)
Also, which server are you playing on?
Barts, and I think maybe thats a bad idea considering mostly hgiher levels here as im seeing.
Whats your view on role playing?
Play the game for the moment.

If you look too far into the future, you will miss it or never get there!
You will most likely burn yourself out before you get to the end. (like burning a candle from both ends) Find a good group of people. If the grind gets you down go explore and look at some of the detailed world, especially pre c3 land areas.

End game is fun, but it won't be fun if that is your only goal, most likely it will probably just a let down. Take it slow. Set goals, but don't have them unrealistic. Don't worry about having the best equipment, it time it will come. When you find your niche and find the right group of people it will all come together.

Play the game to relax, to kick back, to have fun. Don't play it to prove something. If you want to prove something, turn off your PC and do something constructive in the real world. If you are playing the game as if you are working a job, your life is backwards and in the end everything will just blow up in your face.

Enjoy it, and in the end just realize what it is, a game. If you never make it past level 40 or something but enjoyed those 40 levels, then it was worth it. If you beat yourself up for 75 levels I guarantee you spent more time in agony that the fun you will receive in the end.

You say there is something that always draws you back, find that something, and run with it. If it is just the graphics, just enjoy that, etc. etc.

Hope this helps... I would rather be a happy noob, than a miserable pro.

I went threw these stages of L2. Realized it wasn't worth it. How I was looking at it would just make me quit and then that totally defeated my goal. Finding friends in game, ones that you can maybe just have fun with doing certain things, pointless things, having pointless conversations, having deep conversations....to me that is what L2 is about.
I am a very open and non biased person.

If someone around me wants to RP I couldnt care less either way

Just to be clear I cant RP, ive tried before but I lack part of the creativity.

Ive been on a RP server before, the only reason I left was because at one of the times I returned the population wasnt that great, areas were empty like ghost towns, may of been right before a new chronicle so noone was playing.

Whats your view on role playing?

ok I am a very smart person, sometimes too smart for my own good.

You were about to invite me to a RP server as I understand?

If you are ok with me not being able to RP well I be willing to give it a try :D

You were about to invite me to a RP server as I understand?

Well, i just thought. Maybe you are lacking some RP which might help. :)
Ok what do you suggest?
he will suggest you get into an active clan with an academy playing a character you know nothing about yet.

like a human, or an elf.

he will suggest you join a relatively smaller less powerful clan than one thats dominant on the server.

he will suggest you relax the grind, try to enjoy the look of new places such as the shuttgart areas, or human Talking Island.

he will suggest you do a quest youve never done before or start playing the market to make some money.

he will suggest you do some fishing to alleviate the boring grind. fishing at night when the fishing gets boring. fishing at night is impossible to get boring or too easy and he will stop suggesting around this point.

I do but it's a "take a step back" type of advice.

First off, are there any mmo's where the progression seems "right for you"? If not then perhaps this type of game, at least where there is leveling involved might not be right for you. OR, if it is just killing mobs over and over which you don't like, then I suggest going to a more quest based game.

The other question you have to ask yourself is whether or not you get frustrated with similiar things in life. Do you finish involved projects (and are they done in a credible fashion) or are you a procrastinator?

It is possible that this might just be how you are wired.

Also, what is it that you like about L2? Is it the graphics that keep pulling you back?

Another thing you might consider is not playing the game in the way that most players play it. Perhaps you need to start a clan where people who reroll and reroll often can find a home. Of course you might need an additional account for that: one for the "clan leader" and then another for all your rerolls.

Or else find a group where they don't mind rerolling. When I was a clan leader we had one player who always rerolled. He always felt guilty about it but I told him that it was he who we were interested in and we didn't care what level his character was, only that he was enjoying himself.

My thought is that though there are many aspects of this game that you might like (graphics, animations, etc) it is possible that the game is not quite for you. Unless of course you are willing to accept a different type of playstyle and giving up on concrete goals such as "having to level".
Sorry I took what splatter said the wrong way, I actualy thought I was wanted for a moment :(
I am not in any postion, to say. Hey join my clan.... As i don't have one and i'm not part of any clan.

I thought.... Some RP might give you what your looking for.

Anyways, Spudnik comments are not mine. As i don't remember saying them. :)

I don't understand why you can't just rejoin the clan you left?
Splatter's been exposed to us roleplayers for far too long.
You mean with this fixation about Orcs? It's not a fixation....

I am an Orc :)
Ok not a massive amount of advice but as I can relate to some things you are saying I'll say what I can.

Firstly I have more characters than you can shake a stick at as you can see by my list (and there are three missing).

I absolutely love my main. She was easy to level (although she was initially abandoned for months at level 16) and because of her dances she is wanted in parties. Even outside of my clan I have parties I can join all the time.

I left my Orc because I grew tired of her (easy Splatter calm down :o) however I refuse to delete her because I know I'll come back to her one day.

What I tend to do is whatever takes my mood when I log on (if it's quiet). If I want to play a noob I will, tire of that one change to another.

Clans are very important (especialy if they use vent) because it helps to stop the tediousness that can occur with grinding. Party when you can.

With regard to servers, have a look through the posts on each section, they are a great indication of the type of people that play there. Choose one that you feel you could fit into. Once you have decided and make a start on your new home, say something on your servers section that you are new, looking for clan etc. Most servers have helpful people there that will help you settle in.

Most of all, stick with it. In the end it is worth the grind, but patience is the key which is why I suggest variation in characters. If you have several 30+ and a few low level 10+ when the drag between levels gets to much swop to some fast leveling instead.

Just my view hope it helps :D
I know a few chronic rerollers.. and tbh it drives me up the **** wall sometimes. Not because they reroll - play the game how you like.

But because they [censored] and complain about how they can never get a group, or how they're always trying to find some different gear piece, or how they don't get invited on the raids, or how they're ineffective at sieges and PvP.

all of which is related to rerolling and being 10, 20, or even 30 levels behind the average player in the clan.

Like I said - play the game how you like. If you find that you are not liking the game play, either change your play style (not necessarily reroll) or quit already.

L2 isn't for everyone.

For some people, they get to a point where they are bored, burned out, tired, or whatever and they reroll thinking that will fix it. Then they find out that not only did it not fix it, but the problem has gotten worse, because while they were playing their reroll their friends gained a bunch of levels.

I agree with Sovrath - to the OP. Take some time and think about what it is that is getting on your nerves. Once you know, then determine if a playstyle change will fix it, or if this is just not the game for you.
Yup, like they say...where ever you go, there you are.

(In other words, issues are not caused by the external environment but by the person themself)
i disagree
i think your main problem is you are either playing sucky classes or classes at a lvl where they suck

either lvl the dagger higher or make a mage or a destro/tyrant, that should give you a bit more fun for a while
Your problem is you're planning too far ahead and the time it takes you to achieve your goals means you lose interest and get wound up again. You say you've started a scavy but like making things and then you are talking about sub classes etc.
SLOW DOWN !
I have both scav and warsmith. One makes money in the field, the other makes money sitting on her backside in Giran. My glad makes most money by way of drops in higher level areas. You still have to set up a shop and sell the stuff though and this can take forever.
I solo. Full stop.
I like to help others when I can but my grind is usually solo or now I drag my 32 SO around. During my grind I chat with some good friends in game. While doing this, I have no plans on making my Gladiator char 70 by Summer or my SO an SE. I just play and enjoy each day as it comes.
I have 2 accounts and multiple chars (alts) on each. I have no money and my 47 glad is in +4 Brig. I ask nothing of anyone and no-one asks anything of me.
Play the game so YOU enjoy it. Don't try and attain some high level to fit in with the crowd. That will never happen. Play your game, your way. People will take you on as a person and not some alt you happen to be on.
There's one person in particular in game that I talk to. She plays mutilple chars and so do I. We talk to each other as people and not the alts we play.
I get the impression you're trying to please others with your alts and fit your alts into their gameplay rather than your own.
Is it possible that yor cumputer is part of problem with lag?
----turn weather effect off
turn ground detail off
have as little as possible running in sys tray while in game -
more RAM
etc...
It sounds like you might have the same (or similar) problem I have and that is mainly wanting to do everything all at once and then becoming dissatisfied when you hit a snag or it becomes apparent that a certain amount of work is involved. I've been playing MMOs now for a couple years and I think I've only just recently figured this out.

I never leveled as fast as my buddies and as a result I often don't get to do all the fun stuff they're doing when they're doing it and it gets me down. Then I go on a rampage of alt-itis to try and find "that perfect class" that will just be super awesome all the way through. What I end up with, however, are a bunch of characters that are only partially finished and not very well fleshed out which only ends up adding to the feeling of dissatisfaction. While all this is going on, I also find that I'm playing more than is probably healthy just to spread my game time around amongst my alts. So more time spent being unhappy doesn't sound like time well spent to me.

Recently I finally figured out that I should not feel like I have to compete with my friends or guildmates and that I will achieve my goals in my own due time. However, I will only make noticeable progress towards those goals if I just make a choice and stick with it through thick and thin. So as a result, I have shifted to a more relaxed and focused play style and learned to smell the roses along the way. If I'm not having fun at a given moment or would rather be doing something else, I go do that in game or out. I've also found it helps to set small, reasonable goals for myself for each play session. That helps with the feeling that I've accomplished something and am making progress.

I guess the bottom line is, play the game for you. Figure out how you want to play and don't worry about what everyone else is doing or that you'll never get to such-and-such a point. That way lies madness. ;)

I thought I had a point when I began this post, and I'm not sure I've said anything useful at all but at least I've said it. Have fun. Relax. It isn't a race or a contest. It's a game and games are for fun and diversion, yes?

The first part of your post made we want to say, "wow! you poor guys!!!! (really)"

I'm a casual player. I've leveled maybe 18 toons past first class change. I've been clanned (luckily always with good ones) and very much alone.

First advice to OP.....orc mystics and dwarves?????? Friend, those aint gonna help you past your foibles.
As someone else said "level that dagger or go caster". Alternatively you can lvl an archer like everyone else though candidly that's a tough road for someone without a lot of adena--those ****ed things are expensive (and generally require two weapons if you're truly in a hurry btw)
The only 'secret' I can impart is that for me this game has been about 14 months of relationships with other players.....THAT'S the part that makes the game playable imo.
I spent a lot of time solo making a huge friends list--just by being nice and trying to get a laugh and not being critical of others. Again and again that has gotten me introduced to folks in-game who are able and willing to pull me into situations where I can learn and benefit.

I'm clearly not one of those who will have the 76+ toon. I'm really fine with that.
A-grade is coming, got a couple of alts that interact with others I care about....got the adena I need to play and the greatest in-game collection of friends I can imagine.

........THAT'S L2 to me, simply because I choose for it to be.

Now I have a bunch of short term goals that I try to stay focused on...sometimes my session allows me to assist the clan (or new academy recruits), sometimes it's set up to level my academy toon and help get crps, sometimes it's my time to complete a weapon I'm going to sell overnight afk, sometimes I don't have a full clan group and solo on my main and enjoy the music I listen too.
I suppose in the end I've allowed myself to feel fulfilled when just about anything happens--lmao!
If an academy member is showing off new c-gear and I helped them level to 40 I feel great!
If I get a couple good shots on a red griefer much higher than my alt--I'm on top of the world.
When I check my afk shop before work and see 17million adena I didn't have before it makes me smile a lot......
And when I log on and 15 clan members are happy to see me and 3 or 4 new players i've met pm me to say 'hi'....that makes me love the game too.

If your goal is to "level to 76 and be uber"....honestly? You, like me, are hopelessly behind the curve. Aint gonna happen---and imo it would be almost a shame if it did. But hey! If that's you--go for it man.
I think there's more to the game than that.
