Semi-buffed archer?

I'm debating between going archer or nuker for my subclass (one slow-level main class (OL) was more than enough for me), so would appreciate if I could get some input on this:

I have a SE which will be 72 soon, so wondering if the archer would do well with Might 3 / DW 3 / Guid 3 / Focus 3 / Shield 3 / WW 2 (and gr. swft. attk pots) or if you REALLY need to add sds/bd/kitty buffs for an archer to be worth anything?

I know with my SE (emp/wm/ww/shld/conc) a necro or SH would level quite quickly, so if I go archer, would I regret it on the long run or does a SE-buffed + gr swft atk pots archer still do quite well?
You'd do faster on a SH or necro with the SE.

An archer would still be ok but you'd be missing any resists the prophet gets, zerk, greater might/shield, BTB, and BTS. And of course putting out massively for your swift attack pots or haste scrolls. I'd still define that as quite "ok" though but I'm not crazy hard core buffing like some people.
an archer can solo w/ those buffs and GSAPs pretty well to 75, just your damage potential isnt reached w/o all the other things a group can net you. however while a necro/sh will level fast solo, as an archer, you are better suited to parties (just most pagans group at higher levels wont take you....everyone loves melee there....:P) so, subbing archer you get the ability to solo (with your box, would have little to no downtime, specially with a CS bow) and party. necro/sh is really just solo.
This may just be me being spoiled, but I can't see a archer with a SE being that fast, i'd prefer the prophet to level a archer, but like i said, i am spoiled with the prophet ^_^
Thanks for the input.

For the potion costs, unless greater magic haste pots are quite cheaper, it wouldn't make much difference.

When it comes to solo (+oop se), do you think a nuker would be faster than an archer? Or about the same?

How badly do archers need bd/sds/kitty? Is it a difference of 4%/hour vs 3.8% or 4% vs 1%? How about in PvP? Will the se-buffed archer be able to do noticeable damage or just be fly stings that cost the opponent a few more cp pots?

Since I have a SE and no prophet, that's why I'm inquiring about SE ;)

I love playing my PR, I have both SE and Prophet but I usually end up toting my Prophet with me.

As for Pagens, I use a dagger so its not too bad. With a very good active healer I can also use my bow and just throw up dead eye you'll be amazed at the dmg output, but I would recommend keeping your dagger as you just vr whatever dmg those mobs do to you in no time. (BD, POF, Prophet buffs, VR = OMG~~~ won't even mention how awesome heroic valor is lol)
I'm not sure how a nuker fairs at 74+, but I was able to solo 2.8% an hour average w/o oop (had focus 3 from SoES, GSAP, and SR self buffs)
Guys... don't forget recharge for the archer. As well as emp.. should you use debuffs on a regular basis.
Emp on an archer? o.O
Yeah, most likely for a PR. Empower would mean Drain Health would do more damage, and Hex and Powerbreak would land more often if you don't use BSPS.

I think that an SE would be better for a SR because, unlike the HE and PR, SR do not have Pain of Sagittarius and the Recharge would help with Mana issues.

Entangle. Hex. Drains. Jano?
Not all archers get all those. I've never, ever, had an archer ask for empower at least, and yes I have a SE.
I chose to make an SE for the versatility. I Have many alts and most are mele so it makes sense to have an SE for VR. I do well though on my Hawkeye with her buffs. I'm faily poor so I tend to use alacrity pots. I do miss out on Haste, but I can still manage easily, and considering I don't Solo much, It is better off in the long run.

If I were so inclined I'd start up a prophet, but I've got too many alts. I don't think I want to make another healer anyways.
Yeah I hear that. I made a HE with my SE but I miss zerk and haste and everything else too much so I'm slowly leveling a PP.
If your thinking of ever having emp on an archer, you need to quit now.
PP is the ONLY way to level with a Archer,

That is why they made CHEAPSHOT on bows and MANA potions, or are you guys too newb to know it? You will never run out of MP and u get Zerk/Haste/BTB/BTS/HolyWeapon ETC need i go on?

the OP dident ask if should use a SE or PP for his archer, he asked what would be better, a Necro/SH+SE or a archer+SE.

my guess is a nuker will do better then an archer with a SE.

Not sure who you're responding to, but I'm well aware of the benefits a PP has over a SE. An archer can level with an SE instead of a PP though and i'm living proof of it. Before you start spouting out "newb" as if it were an insult, realize that it makes you sound like a fool.
We were pointing out how ******ed it would be to be empower on an archer, since neither of us has seen anyone do that in all our gaming (since OB).
I have seen SE's out there that always gives archers EMP >.<
If I were playing a PR or SR and actually used magic like entangle or drain, then I'd give myself empower. Fortunately I play a HE, and don't have to embarrass myself getting caught asking for emp. ;)
How bizzare. Seriously when we owned Giran I siege exclusively with archers, and not all HE, and never once did anyone ever ask for empower.
Seeing im on kain and a hero i will be sure to pk you. Have a nice day populater
I'm sure your mother is proud of you.
PR with emp is strong with hex!
23% decrease in pdef is MAJOR!

I soloed with my SR with SE as buffbot
even with cheapshot, recharge is very nice to have since if you solo at a competent spot you'll be shooting non-stop. And the heals are good if fighting against nuker/archer mobs, along with purify that cures alotta stuff. Ideally prophet would be for buffs only and SE for recharge/purify/heals but i can't afford 3 accounts <_<
sure hex is good, but isent that close range? like 600 or something? not realy optimal for an archer.
its a pretty **** slow cast
and honestly when does an archer even need any skill besides stun shot?
Well, honestly the SE + Necro or SH will likely be slightly faster to level...

When you finish however, would you rather have a class that can 1-shot the majority of people for 8k damage 50% of the time or a nuker doing 400-600 damage per shot 90+% of the time?

Seems like a no-brainer.
I don't intend on ever having bd+sds+kitty buffs on a regular basis, not more in pvp than in pve, so one-shotting people for 8k damage ain't an option for me.

Not to mention that OL is my main class, so I mostly want a sub that can bring me to nobless fairly quickly.
if you dont find yourself bored silly soloing all the time, go nuker, (some can do it, others cant) if you want something that can both solo and group (you know your clan/alliance best to know if you'd be takin into parties) go archer.
Well, hopefully your clan will group you no matter what class you are.

Efficient out of clan groups will not take mages... it is that simple.

If you never plan on grouping or PvP as your sub, then SH is a fine choice.

Fastest way to 75 on a sub IMHO is warlock....
Massively powerful in solo and wanted in the best groups in the game.
Why would efficient out of clan groups not take mages (by which I assume you mean a nuker or summoner)? I'm not arguing, just curious to know the reason.
nukers could be good in AoE groups I guess, and they wouldent have problem with mana, cuz they can sit between pulls. nut sure if a mage spamming AoE will outdamage a warlord.
Doubt it, I have a SH and a SPS and there's no real spamming AOEs anyway because the recast time is slow. I've tried it on groups and even if it takes me 2 casts to finish a group of mobs, by the time it refreshes they are kicking my butt.
heheh ellie ill show u a place in ABG where u can 2 shot stuff when u get around 70ish :P

Doom knights aoe is good still about level 70 at that big spawn area as long as u have a OL... but then agian that was when aoe sleep was decent.. hehe
I've only been in one AoE group in the past few months, but in the past mage AoEs were recruited along with archers, tyrants and every other class who had bad reuse time on their AoE attacks.

So it shouldn't be impossible to get an AoE party invite, but pole-using classes will get invited first.
I was refering to a WL pulling and a mage AOEing
Working on GSAP and SE buffs you can go along way, I mostly do that when I am grinding.

Okay you can go faster with PP, but you will level already fast and consistent enough, and make money.
you can solo just fine with an oop SE and swift pots on an archer. you'll level faster on a SH with magic haste pots and an acumen weapon though.

The SE-Nuker would level faster than the SE-Archer, and if you're not used to playing a fast xp'ing class, I would start there. Nothing wrong with the Archer, but even with buffs, you still have to kite somewhat. With the nuker, you can stand in the middle of the field and just mow down everything in range....run to the next cluster of mobs, rinse and repeat.

And yes, I said run. You have an SE for mana management, and if you also hunt in areas where mana pots drop, mana won't be an issue.

The only thing that will slow you down is the slowish mob respawn rate, which you have no control over (although that doesn't stop me from shouting to GM's to speed the process up anyway).
You don't always have to kite as a Hawkeye, your Con is high enough to take some beating.

I meant nukers... summoners (Warlock especially)are taken for their buffs.

Nukers are not taken because they are massively mana inefficient compared to other damage choices. (archer/dagger for single target and polearm class for aoe)

In single-target parties, giving a mage a recharge is silly, as the reasonably buffed archer will do 4x the damage with it even if his buffs are not perfect and his luck is just average.
Thus mages are left to their own for recovering mana unless the party has an excess of it. (in which case you are not killign enough mobs)

Mage aoe damage is on timers... and limited to 20 per shot.
Strangely enough, mages are not considered AoE classes either and have similar restrictions as other single target classes with timered AOEs. Frankly, unless the party is tuned for 15-20 mobs every pull, the insanely fast-swinging tyrant with a polearm will outdamage the AOEing mage by a significant margin.

Thats right... the tyrant is only going to hit a small percentage of the mobs in his arc... but he is going to hit them so fast and so hard (and infinitely) that the timered mage AOE will cease to matter.

Mages don't get groups because frankly they don't do anything useful for a party that some other class doesn't do insanely better.

You don't always have to kite as a Hawkeye, your Con is high enough to take some beating.

Depends on the mob.

I prefer to stay out range of the Ol Mahum Shamans. They are multi-HP mobs with magic crits, too, and if you get hit with two of those (as my SK knows), it's dirt nap time.

I probably am a bit tuned because of hunting mostly mage type mobs, kiting those is waste of time. :)
