Several Newbie Questions <3

Hello all, is it just me or does my 'Post Icon' look a little.. well...

Anyway, I have a couple of newbie questions. These are really things I would like to have all of your opinions on.

Me and my wife are going to be leveling together. We would like two very compatible classes, as far as leveling and playing together goes.

She is interested in playing a healer class. She likes elves but might go human if I really wanted her to. I will play any class that would go well with her, and help us level quickly.

The other question is one of server selection. I realize this is a heavily opinionated topic, and everyone may just suggest the server they are playing on. I still appreciated your comments though! ^.^

So, fire away! I look forward to your replies.
if she really likes elves and healing she would be a great Elven Elder. very fun class.

as to compatible with that: anything that carries a shield. i recommend (if you like human) to try Dark avenger/Paladin or if you want to make more money and be a high class duo, make yourself a Bounty Hunter.

if she would like you to be an elf i would say elven elder+temple knight are a good combo; although with a SwordSinger you COULD duo AND accept more in your group (archers expecially when you get the Song of Hunter).

i won't touch the server question except to say play one with the Lowest Ping number for you. its all the same at high levels.

The other question is one of server selection. I realize this is a heavily opinionated topic, and everyone may just suggest the server they are playing on. I still appreciated your comments though! ^.^

I'm going to give you some advice, that is in your best interest to heed.

Stay. Away. From. Erica.

Bots, Overprices, Griefers, not to mention the fact that it's extremely difficult to find a party, under level 35-ish.

But, then again, I could be biased. My apologies, if I offend anyone, by that summation.
aw heck, i'll answer the server question. Play on Gustin :p

and welcome to L2

a Blade dancer/Elven elder with duals usualy worked for me, and was pretty fun :)
Elven Elder + SwordSinger would be a cute combo. also, the SwS is insanely flexible as far as weapon options go, and the EE doesnt need amazing gear to do amazing things. when you hunt undeads, then the EE can act like a nuker, if she wants to.
Swordsinger eh? I'll have to look into it. Anyone have any opinion on Hinde? (the server).

Also, Rez mentioned hard to find parties under level 35. I kind of expected it to be just us two leveling together for a while. The absence of lower levels is a problem on every server isn't it?

Any more opinions on class combo or server?
Well, of the three healers, the one which gets all the hype is the SE. This is because the dark elven priestess packs one of the best combinations of buffs and heals in the game.
The only problem with her is that she basically has root and her own buffed melee as offense and that is all. It takes a very patient and giving person to play an SE as a main.

(Light) Elven elders get mostly defensive buffs (which people undervalue) and all the targetable heals in the game you could ask for... The most noted feature is Party return which instantly returns the whole party to town in an emergency. They also get undead nukes that most people completely ignore. These nukes make your elven elder a quite powerful nuker vs undead now.

Human priests are either buffers (prophet) or pure healers (bishop).
Prophets match up extremely well with melee classes, but are often referred to as buffbots. They CAN heal to some degree, but those stop advancing at level 35.

Bishops are massively undervalued... their heals can make any PvE situation massively easy... the problem is that their buffs are focused on healing and they have very little in the way of offense against non-undead targets. Against undead they are powerhouses...

Let's start with some classic combos
-Archer/Prophet
Best buffs in game for an archer and light heals... pick a Human or Dark elven archer for best results (to turn HP into mana)

-SE/SH You nuke, she heals, buffs, and recharges... it will be BORING for her, but you will both advance very quickly.
You will also look good doing it.

-SE/Polearm class (I'd pick destroyer overall) You pull boatloads of mobs and she heals you... no one will be bored and you will advance the quickest of ANY combination in the game once you learn this style. The key point here is VR which recovers HP as you hit things.

-Any healer/Any tank
More defensive... and you can still use a polearm, just not as well.

Some less traditional pairs:

Warlock/Warcrier
Between the two of you, you are all the party you will ever need... send the kitty in and you two buff and support it. You will also be very hot commodities later on in life. Note the warlock can indeed heal to some degree and the summon gets all the warcrier buffs.

-BD or Sws/Warcrier
Again parties will love you and you will provide great buffs to each other. Sws/Warcrier is easier earlier on, and BD/warcrier is incredible when you are both 74. (stacked VR from dance and warcrier buff is powerful stuff)

Note these last two combos place the two of you as fun and more exciting classes.

Swordsinger eh? I'll have to look into it. Anyone have any opinion on Hinde? (the server).

Also, Rez mentioned hard to find parties under level 35. I kind of expected it to be just us two leveling together for a while. The absence of lower levels is a problem on every server isn't it?

the absence of lower levels as you perceive it isnt an absence really. for many people the grind to 20 is too easy and they dont group. then again from 20-35. around 35-36 most people group up and do raids, or hunt in catacombs for ancient adena (on most servers worth 5x regular adena and is amassable at the same rate) to upgrade from D gear into C gear.

the Gear grind is precisely the reason i suggested you make a Bounty hunter. this class (along with using the manor sytem regularly) will help you get into your finer gear FASTER by virtue of the nature of the class and the low levels are SO easy to make a killing from in manor crops.

read the player guides section for more mthods of making money in the game that do NOT include marketeering.

hindemith is referred to by many people as a great server for people that are just learning the ropes and are looking to make friends and have questions answered. then again lionna is also as good.
kain ftw, and yea, a SwS/BD and EE would be great.

THALENDUROS:  WORDS

Awesome post! Just curious, what are some other pole arm classes? I'm not sure I want my main to be an orc.

Also, I am a bit puzzled. I searched the forums a little bit and I was under the impression that SE was being complained about being gimp and whatnot. Then you say they have some hype. It's kind of good to hear. Are they useful as higher levels at all?

Thanks for the awesome class advice! Any server advice?

Thanks, I was looking into making a money-making dwarf alt actually. :)
two other polearm classes are Warlord (bad pvp) or dwarf. swordsinger CAN use polearm but destroyer/warlord are better. dwarves again are more economically feasible.
Thalenduros really knows his duos. blade dancer + warcryer is an awesome combination, and shouldnt be overlooked. if you both like to compete with each other, it would be an awesome way to go. but, it will be a hard duo to get to that magical level of 40 (unlike EE+SwS, which will not level nearly as fast at later levels).
edit: there is no reason why each one of you cant have multiple characters. when in doubt, do both.

I play on Hindemith... a nice server with decent people for the most part. We have our share of dorks, but both grouping and lack of newbie killing has been quite nice the last couple trips up to 40.

Of course experiences may vary as I am happy solo or grouped. If you must be grouped 24/7, then Hindemith is just ok from 1-40. 40+ we have a lot of subclass people so it isn't bad at all.

Hindemith does have a decent amount of europeans, so if that is your play schedule you shoud be fine.
We also have plenty of US players.
Hindemith has a decent population, but is not massively overpopulated. (finding hunting grounds is pretty easy, and groups aren't hard to find either, although you may have to look while soloing/duoing for a while.)

Ganking is not common on Hindemith, but PvP is not uncommon either.
Pretty much if you see people with clan tags fighting in an area, expect to die if you run in there... if you are just fighting mobs, expect most people will leave you alone or say something in chat to confirm you are a live person...

Do respond with some urgency... A number of clans will kill you quickly if you do not respond. Hindemith is rather sensitive about bots.

Most of the time, if you respond and aren't wearing clan tags they can't stand, hindemith people will buff you and help as long as you don't get overly annoying.

Oh one bad thing... for the most part our "heroes" are the biggest drama queens on any server. Hero chat is less than appealing most of the time.
Not that this is a big deal... I just turn it off if I am not in the mood (most of the time).

Awesome post! Just curious, what are some other pole arm classes? I'm not sure I want my main to be an orc.

Warlord/SE is just outright incredible in PvE but in PvP things will be less than stellar at least until Interlude where they are buffing melee skills. Fully buffed high-end warlords are a great deal more powerful than most people give them credit for, but the rise to 7x is not an easy one by comparison as all your skills are based on AoE which is not really efficient without VR.

Both Dwarves are polearm classes, but focus more on money than PvP aspects... in PvE you wil be fine with an SE behind you.

A lot of people forget that Gladiators have 20-39 polearm skills and are indeed better than the average character with a polearm... they also get to be incredible with dual swords and by all accounts are being buffed into godhood in interlude (not quite sure I believe that)

All melee classes can use polearms just fine, its just that you won't hit as many mobs in your arc as a polearm class will.
Gladiators are a partial class so they hit more
Destroyers, dwarves, warlord are the primary poelarm classes.

Also, I am a bit puzzled. I searched the forums a little bit and I was under the impression that SE was being complained about being gimp and whatnot. Then you say they have some hype. It's kind of good to hear. Are they useful as higher levels at all?

SE are "useful" all the way up... the problem is people get bored playing them as mains because for some reason, NCSoft doesn't seem to want priests to have any teeth. If the priests could hit a button or two that did at least a little damage that woud be nice. Recently they even nerfed bow and polearm useage for them (unnecessarily in my opinion).

Thanks for the awesome class advice! Any server advice?

Already got that one. :-)
Spellhowler and Shillen Elder is quite an effective and deadly duo imo but you probably wont be able to go into catacombs without a tank or a melee DD to soak the initial damage.. Spellhowlers are squishy and despite their mediocre healingpowers so are Shillen Elders, lol.

The dorf+SE poling combo previously mentioned worked helluva nice for me :) its risky to strap on a polearm and pull larger trains of mobs and you will die alot, but recouping the exp isnt that hard.. and done properly you'll still lvl faster than classes that are forced to go 1v1 on mobs even though you'll be likely to have a higher deathcount, lol. If you do pick this combo.. make it a bountyhunter for spoils.

As for server i'm a hindemither and personally i would say its a fairly good server prolly not the best but also not the worst one. Since you're already set on just your own duo for starters the playerbase wont be much of a problem unless you're gonna have to fight for you huntingspot.. and taking down a dorf with vampiric rage buff and a mediocre healer is not the easiest nor quickest of tasks, lol. They are not very effective DD's in Pvp but good enough so that a squishier melee cant turn their back on them to take out a healer. Especially not if you keep a lowgrade blunt in your pack to quickly equip for making use of the stunskill before back to the pole.
There's alot of good ppl and 1 arrogant powerhouse ally but thankfully not too powerful.
Hindemith is not a bad choice
Ok my husband and I started as BH and SE
on Erica
SE --- great buffs --- but weak as hell -- u sit much as an active healer/ buffer.
and many folks have a buff bot SE for those buffs.
I kinda regret SE choice as a first toon and think the Orcish route is a better one Warcryer at higher lvls is awesome and can take a hit -- so she would be noob friendly.

but
it really depends on what u like and knowing what that is --- harder than it seems :o
BTW as to server
---its about who you play with -- not where
and I like the clan I'm in -- all adults and no nonsense
She is thinking Warcryer now, since people are saying SE can be kind of boring. Any website with armor preview pics on orcs or anything? She wants to see what she would look like >.< . I've been searching for a site like that also.
I don't have anything to add that hasn't been said before, but I will suggest Lionna as a newbie-friendly server. =D
This thread is drifting a bit, but I was wondering - what is the main armor a warcryer uses? Do they end up using robes most of the time?

I think we are going to do the Warlock/Warcryer combo.
heavy armor for Warcryer --- they have skills for it
Warcryers have Heavy Armor masteries, yes... but don't even think about trying to buff without robes, particularly +MP Robes.
Hmm, as mystics should she stick with robes though? When should she start wearing what?

Anyway..also wondering what these recovery scrolls are o.O
when u die you have a chance of getting a death penalty (used to drop items instead but it was too hardcore so they stopped that). the death penalties stack, 3 of them is worse than just one. to remove one death penalty you need to use a scroll of recovery appropriate to your grade. as a wc you can really wear anything you want and it will work pretty well.
WCs can buff just fine in heavy - you just need to stagger (half buffs while gathering up in town, then half when you are gathered at hunting spot and your MP is back, 10 minutes later if you need a small rest), and you'll be fine.

Prophets have much more trouble, but even they can manage a party of up to about 6 people when staggering carefully.

To be honest, the only reason the SE/PP/EE classes are 'boring' is because people force themselves to play them in a certain 'cookie cutter' way. And you'll probably hear a lot of the same types of suggestions no matter what buffer/healer class you play.

There's absolutely NO reason you have to go Robes+Acumen and rely on large parties where you have to buff AND heal everyone, because the other party idiots don't want to reduce the amount of XP they get by adding another healer/buffer.

In a small party you can get away with being in light armor and using a nice Patk weapon to wack away even if you are a SE/PP/EE. Because in the end, playing a Warcryer isn't all *that* different when it comes down to MP usage...except that for the WC every party is a 'big' party because they can't pick -n- choose their buff targets. It just takes them longer to get enough buffs that MP use is more of an issue.

Warcryers have a few more options when it comes to skills, but at the same time MP consumption can really hinder your ability to actually use them. So in the end, they don't play much different than what the others do if you gear them the same.

In fact, if the majority of your playing is going to be duo/small party in places where herbs drop then just about any combination melee + Buffer/Hybrid is going to work quite well.

...well, as long as you don't choose a ranged class to go with her buffer/healer....THAT gets boring fast.
ya i have a noob questin, its about clan crests, i have a lvl 3 clan and all but when i try to upload the crest it dosnt work, can someone help me,
SE is not a NOOB friendly toon
I understand that it may be played well and be interesting ---just not very noob friendly. and heavy armor may not be something worn in lvls above mid forties --- but till then ( on a noob) ---- wear heavy :D

SE is not noob friendly?

I have played mine since C1, and continue to love playing her. I'm a little embarrassed to see two to three times the HP heals coming from EE's more than ten levels below me, or to compare my casting speed to anyone but a tank, but you know what?

I still feel appreciated and welcome in my clan. I don't feel like I'm getting pity groups (though there was a time I did feel that way), but instead feel like I'm actively contributing.

Can another class do the job better? Probably. But can they look this **** **** doing it? Not likely.

Edit: I had a point in there, somewhere. Just wish I knew what it was.
SEs are the most noob friendly healer, and the most noob friendly support class right in line with prophets.

VR gives you much, much more MP to play with than bishops and EEs have, which means even a bad SE can often keep a group going better than a good prophet, bishop or EE.

A good SE will be able to do much more of course (namely juggle a solid amount of buffing with healing, recharging and CC if the area permits and the group is the right size for an SE - i.e. SMALL), but a bad SE is generally sufficient.
*twitches*

I can still recall having to CC a full Apostate's room, heal, recharge AND nail buffs because someone (I'm so not naming tanks right now, Marcus) ran off just as they faded and decided to aggro just about everything that could be.

My MP bar still has nightmares about that pull.

TWITCHES----- ya that frames my notion of why SE is NOT noob friendly quite nicely. I was scared of everything that moved by the time i did my first class transfer . She was still strong and could deal damage -- but the learning curve is high wth DE mystics --cause u can't take a hit and after 20 wth the SO choice yor offensive skills slip and the twitching begins --as you have difficulty managing MP and defending self if all goes sideways...
I have my SE at lvl 42 now and don't play her much cause it's still kinda hard to do it well. I havent given up --- just shelving her till I get more comfortable with Mobs aggro locations.
BTW I absolutley hate the SE death cry
so wimpy
I'm almost not really concerned about noob friendly-ness in a way. She has played a FFXI White Mage to around level 30, and a priestess in ragnarok to the 90's. >.< She adapts well.
oh---- BTW
after choosing SE cause I wanted to be a Mystic ...
I found that all I really wanted to do was smack some mobs.
Its just so gratifying to kick some butt after a hard day RL. :p
I think I soloed until my late 30's, actually.

Mithril Robes and 107's were my poison, undead mobs (they nerfed the Hangman Trees! PK PK!) and BSPSD.

I was (and continue to be) a little psuedo-melee elder, though of late I'm having problems keeping my clothes on in hunting zones, much to the amusement of my party (And, courtesy of # and $ being so close together, often my alliance).

A class is what you make of it. Sure, there are restrictions, but if you have fun, that is what counts.

Edit: Oh, I swear there is still about 800-1000 mp that refuses to come out of Witness Protection after that Apostate's train. I'm sure I have more MP than it reports. Really.
I wish I could find a Orc Mystic - Warcryer guide or something >.<. All I've found out so far is using life drain at first is good. I don't know what armor we should use on the Orc. Robes until level 14 when she can do heavy?
not really too crucial -- 0- 20 -- still advise heavy but robe will do -- My hubby did heavy the whole time -- but he doesn't use his mystic skills much ... get newbie buffs ... use tokens to explore other newbie towns. Can't use newbie tokens after 20.
http://lineage.pmfun.com is agood site ---with some warcryer info
I've got an orc mystic I levelled to just shy of 25.

Started in Devotion robes and dual fists. Hit with Life Drain, then as the beastie got close toggled Soul Cry on and beat the snot out of them. Chill Flame works okay, if it lands.

Toggle Soul Cry off, lather, rinse, repeat as necessary.

Please consult your doctor if you develop itching or irritation. Not all users reported the same results, and some users have been known to suffer adverse side-effects, such as blurry vision, trouble sleeping, loss of appetite and, in rare cases, a euphoric joy attributed to fast XP gain.

Since life drain is available 'till 35 now (wasn't the case when I leveled my OL), I'd probably recommend heavy armour + melee weapon for soloing. Just use your might and shield buffs and try to use your drain life between fights so the casting time of heavy armour isn't that much of a hinderance.

Remember that each buff you do is that much less mp available for draining, so when you become a warcryer you'll have to try out different buff combinations to see which are worth doing in solo and which aren't.

As an Overlord, for instance, I know my guidance buff isn't worth doing in solo. Same with m.def, acumen (unless monsters are strong enough that I HAVE to drain in fight often), wind walk, etc.

When you get higher, maybe in your 50s or 60s, you'll probably want to switch to robes and a melee weapon. Robes will help your casting speed a lot, as well as your mp regen and max mp, so they're worth having. That will be a good setup for both solo and groups of all sizes. Robes + mage weapon / acumen also works good. You'll kill a bit slower in melee, but your drain will do more damage and cast faster (so the monsters will hit you less when you cast)

If you intend to pvp/siege, you can keep that robes+melee weapon setup, or you can go with robes+acumen weapon if you use your drain.

I wish I could find a Orc Mystic - Warcryer guide or something >.<. All I've found out so far is using life drain at first is good. I don't know what armor we should use on the Orc. Robes until level 14 when she can do heavy?

Orc Mystics are flexible enough that there really is no set guide for them, but you can find a lot of various strategies if you read around.

Part of the reason for this, is that they are one of the only 3 classes that get all three Armor Mastery skills. (Robes, Light and Heavy.) Warcryers, Overlords and Prophets are the only 3 classes that get all three. And the Prophets don't get Heavy until L40.

The other reason is that Prophets get more buffs but fewer attack skills than the Orcs do. Thus their playstyle ends up a bit more restrictive than Orcs. (Moreso these days due to various Pole/Bow nerfs than previously.)

For the most part, ALL the Orc mystics I know have usually have 2 complete sets of armor so that they can change depending on if they solo/small group or if they are in a big party.

[Robes] -> Fastest cast speed, and most MP. Used mostly for large parties where you may need to CC and heal in addition to buffing. Also used by Warcryers when they solo with Flame+Poison+Sleep->wack to finish.

[Light] -> Mid cast speed and pdef. Light is probably the most flexible armor for an Orc mystic at the graded levels due to set bonuses. +MP/Regen as well as cast speed on certain sets means you may only need one armor for solo and small/large parties. You won't excel at any, but you can do each fairly well.

[Heavy] -> Used heavily by those who solo. Overlords even more so than Warcryers. (OL's don't get VR as a buff, much less the other good crit buffs.) Regen and cast speed is the slowest, although it's the cast speed thats only really noticable.

For weapons, you have generic mastery so you can use all weapons equally....except for bows and polearms. Use of those is was heavily nerfed in the last mid Chron update. (Due to Olympiad 'balance' </roll eyes>) Your stats are better than other mystic races...but still much lower than the other melee classes of all races.

[Blunts] The +ACC of blunts is one of the big attractions considering a Orc Mystics low DEX/ACC stat. Some like being able to use their Stun or Hammer Crush skills, although few use it regularily. 'Mage' blunts with high Matk and the Acumen SA (C grade and up) is the standard choice for most Orc Mystics starting out. 2H blunts can be used when high Patk is wanted, but ACC is still an issue.

[Fist] Good for +ACC and high Patk...but overall the SA selection and lower Matk means few use them.

[Sword] ACC can be an issue at times, but the better crit rate is often a fair trade off. Like blunts, 'Mage Swords' are another popular choice for the high Matk and SA's. For some, a 2H Sword for high patk is a decent trade off. Most don't bother with swords until C grade at the earliest, when the Accuracy buffs can be learned.

[Duals] This is one of the most popular patk choices. Like Swords ACC is traded off for crits, although in the case of Duals their 'two-swing' nature means that infrequent misses are less of a problem than with a normal 1H/2H sword. Thus D grade use isn't unknown and C grade and higher duals are fairly common.

[Dagger] Really only seen in Late C grade/B grade, after a couple of levels of Accuracy buffs are learned. And in the case of a Warcryer, when more of the crit buffs are learned. At that point however, A good dagger is a good choice for someone looking to maximise their melee crit damage. Soul Cry works especially well with a dagger due to the fixed increase in Patk, although the MP use of the toggle is tremendous.

For L1-20 I would stick with Devotion robes as long as your playing together and she's not getting hit. Fist weapons or a blunt would be best for a weapon. (Either matk or Patk depending on if she melees or DoT's)

For L20-40 I would switch to Light or Heavy. Mobs start to hurt a lot more now, and the extra pdef is better than MP or cast speed as long as you are mostly duo/small party. If you hunt mostly where herbs drop a high patk weapon is good. If your in areas where sleep is needed (Orc barracks, etc.) then a high Matk weapon is needed more. (Orcs have low INT and can't modify it with tattoos) If you spend a lot of time in the catacombs, then you may want to use Robes as well.

L40+, you should know by now how much your going to be partying and where. You're probably going to want two sets of armor for her now. A robe set for MP and either a light or Heavy for when your not in a big group. C grade is a bit naff, so you could do without. In B grade and higher you will probably want a robe of the same set as your other gear so you can swap the robe with the light/heavy without spending a lot of money.
have you decided your server ?
I think Pain Amplifier's suggestions are pretty good. I will just add (and others may recall me saying this before), robes worked so darn well before level 20 that I got academy robes for D grade. In my late 20s, I really started to regret this. I was soloing as a melee, and I made it through, but as Pain Amplifier says, the mobs start to hurt, and they are generally more aggro. Also, the DOT's do less and less damage on mobs as you level. When I got to level 40 and switched to Heavy Armor, it was like a breath of fresh air. I used a Yaksa mace for a while in C grade, but then I got a pair of duals and found out they way outperformed the blunt, even when using Hammer Crush, and even when grinding on mobs that are blunt-weak. I continued in Heavy Armor until level 58, when I started boxing the WC with my main. At that point I switched to robes and not longer after switched from duals to a dagger with Focus SA. At level 58, I think you would need a calculator to distinguish between the average damage per time with duals and daggers on a WC. But, you would see a noticeable difference in shot consumption - it's less with the dagger because of the crit buffs and Focus SA. Thus, you both save money and you get to stay longer in the field between supply runs.

We are fairly sure we are going to be on Hinde.

We actually have lots of level 6-8 on there already, just testing them out. She made an orc mystic but even though she is trying, IMO she is doing too much melee to enjoy it. She is more of a support/magic person. Who knows though, 1-8 isn't exactly a good indicater of what the class would be in the future.

Thanks for all the advice on everything. It's been really awesome.
I know you guys have already went above and beyond what I could ever ask for, but what about playing a Silver Ranger with a Shillian Elder. Is that worth anything?
an archer and SE doesent stack very well together :/
that would work fine. she can buff and recharge you, and root mobs.

an archer and SE doesent stack very well together :/

why not?

She is more of a support/magic person.

imo, she would probably like EE more than SE, unless she really likes the look of the dark elves. but nor does EE have very good buffs for archers.

an archer and SE doesent stack very well together :/

why not?

<sarcasm> cause Prophets are SOOOO much better </sarcasm>

an archer and SE doesent stack very well together :/

I'm curious as well.

an archer and SE doesent stack very well together :/

why not?

<sarcasm> cause Prophets are SOOOO much better </sarcasm>

LOL OH NO. Seriously though, what is the big difference as far as leveling with a SE or a PP. She doesn't like the way female humans look, lulz. I mean, I guess if they don't stack.. I could do Spell Howler. I have just played hunters/rangers in a good number of other games and loved them >.<
he probably means that at higher levels she will be bored becasue she wont be doing anything. which is pretty much true. difference between a prophet and SE is that prophet has regeneration buff, zerk, and haste2. but with swift attack pots you wont really notice a difference.

Ah, well what if I play spellhowler or something.. would she actually be doing anything different? I know I sound kinda ignorant since I am still new to this game.
nope pretty much nothing. its a problem with SE really. they are a good low level buffer, combo recharger, combo healer. note that prophet has the same problem, most prophets are boxes, not real players.

edit: you're going about this the wrong way i think. first find out what she wants to be and why. does she like how dark elves look? does she want to play a nuker/healer or a buffer/healer?

This puzzles me. In other games she plays, she heals.. buffs and she is happy as long as she is busy healing or buffing.

Is this not the case in this game? Are healers pointless in lineage 2 or something? o.O Do they just stand around and leech exp so they can be high level and do nothing, since no one needs them?

It's just confusing me.. No one uses healers? T_T

She likes how dark elves look, and she prefers buffer/healer.

Edit: But if she is standing around constantly not doing anything, she will probably fall asleep.. LOL.

welcome to L2.

...serriously though. it sounds from what you say that she would like playing an SE. and it sounds like you would like to play a SR. so give that a shot before you completely dismiss L2.

Ouch... we will try but this is definently a bad thing.

Edit: And you mean to tell me at high levels it will be hard for a _HEALER_ to get a party?

Edit AGAIN: So depressing to hear.. I guess just scew it and try SE and SR.... we have 3 months sub each already paid for. Wanted to give the game a chance.
allow me to rephrase. healers (and people that play them) are crucial to the game, and often neccessary for parties. skills, on the other hand, which directly restore hp, are not always neccessary, depending on what sort of party it is. therefore, we can deduce that "healers" in L2 do more than just heal. skills which directly restore hp actually got a huge nerf last update, and it didnt seem to change the game much at all. does that help?
Yes, I understand what you are saying. I feel bad because people gave us all this great advice, now it looks like we will basically be playing what we like based on 'basic class ideas' and looks.

EE and SR.

Lets hope we arn't gimped to death.
As for the Orc Warcryer advice, it'll still be used one way or another ;)
okay wait stop. big breath. that is a BAD combination. if you do EE+SwS (swordsinger) you can still use a bow (like an SR), and wear whatever armor you want, and you can move really fast and kite mobs all day. and the buffs and heals from EE might actually help you depending on your choice of setups. EE and SR dont complement each other at all since the EE doesnt have the same buffs an SE does (most noticeably focus and death whisper), and those buffs are not available in potion form at the magic shop.
If it makes a big difference i'll go SwS then. Looked like a fun class anyway. Duel wielding swords right? Some buffs also?

Anyway, thanks for telling me .. might help a lot in the future.

Know of any SwS or EE guides? Since we have no idea what we are doing +.+ Like what skills to get and armor to wear etc.
lets say for example, that you are both going to be elves. you can click alt+m (opens the map) then there should be a button there for world info. that will tell you all the quests in your starter village, its sort of a good idea to do those. the idea behind the EE+SwS combo is that you cant really go wrong. you can play them with any setup you enjoy, armor and weaponwise. and with party return and song of wind you can quickly get out of any sort of jam you find yourself in. i still dont think there is anything wrong with SE+SR, biggest dissadvantage is that you will start in different towns (and thus wont be able to do the starter quests together)
If you went SR the best combo first would be a prophet. Then WC/SE, and if you wanted to be extra gimp, EE or bishop.

SwS can use pretty much any weapon, I personally wouldn't go with a EE as my first duo choice though.

Anyway EE's like all healers are easy, healer robes through the grades (devotion, mithril, divine, blue wolf, dc/maj) and a weapon with acumen. EE's could probably get away with blue wolf light at B grade because they are fast casters anyway but not many do, at least none I know.
theres a swordsinger guide in the Guides forum, the EE will be a snap if your wife has already been playing that kind of class for a while.
Thanks for the continued help guys ;) anyone here play on Hinde?

Searching for SwS and Swordsinger in the guides forum isn't bringing up anything, time to browse through it I suppose.
Thats a pretty amazing guide. There should be a sticky or something linking to all the class guides like that T_T.

Anyway, if SwS with EE will work.. i'm all for it. SwS seems like a lot of fun. Plus i'm all for being a big benefit for clans and whatnot.

an archer and SE doesent stack very well together :/

I'm curious as well.

The SE's major archer friendly buffs will be WW and Focus/Death Whisper. Recharge is good as well at lower levels though. Might is standard for all buffers.

A Prophet won't have the recharge, but at higher levels it really isn't necessary due to 'Cheap Shot' SA. (HE/PR has btm as well. :O ) In addtion a PP has Greater Might, Bless the Body/Soul, Berserk and Haste.

The Haste and Berserk buffs are the two that really add a lot to an archer's damage speed and output.
EE thes one I want to do.
The skills list looks yummy -- and high lvl groups love em
--- hard to raise tho and and takes skill to do right
