I will pay you tomorrow for MP today - A Spellsinger's Journey
Let me start off by saying I dual box with a SE at all times. I found it to be very painful without one. I love teaming with my clannies, but I tend to be online during the hours they work or sleep or are otherwise not available.
To those who play a Spellsinger without their personal battery, I salute you. It's by no means and easy task and requires the patience of a saint. Well done and mega kudos to you!
With all that said, I adore my Spellsinger. I've mentioned this in another thread and was promptly told to reroll. There comes a point where one must decide if you play the game for yourself, your clan or for any other reason. Being that it's my dime and my time, I've decided to stick with what I enjoy the most.
I'm prompted to share my experiences because I don't agree with insisting to someone they should play another class if they are enjoying themselves.
This is NOT, however, and arena for the live vs. boxed buffer issue. This is just to share my experiences with those who are interested in running a SpS with a SE.
It was at around level 12 that I decided that I must have a recharger as I found myself sitting around way too much while hunting Orcs in Elfville.
At level 13 I went to swampland and hunted bats till 17 or 18. From there I hunted spiders way off from the Elven Village. I can't remember exactly where, to around 20.
At 20 I hunted just outside Dion. Low HP mobs with great exp. I was there till around 30.
At 30 I went to Field of Silence as a suggestion from a friend who has a SH. I spent 10 levels there. I literally stood in the pond closest to where you port in from Heine, with the Ogres and Shamans, just casting and casting. Every once in awhile I'd take a break, pick up my loot, make a latte and start all over again. The exp as I and my SO were nearing 40 was complete crap, but the adena and SP couldn't be beat. Plus, one shotting mobs who are very close together isnt exactly inefficient.
I'm very lucky to have a fun and understanding clan. I'm always invited to team. Usually they make no fuss with having my SE included in the team, and sometimes they insist on it, knowing she isn't going to be doing more than buffing team and charging me.
This past weekend I was able to start and complete both my SpS and SE quests. I goofed on my SpS quest by doing the wrong 3rd quest. I instead did the Elemental Summoner 3rd quest. What can I say, I was tired and kinda mushy from all the quests and had looked up the wrong one. :( So, I do the correct 3rd quest and became a Spellsinger. Yey!
The following day I Started on my SE quests and knocked out two. On Sunday, I was able to start the 3rd, but instead of having swords, she was just using a staff. Due to wind strike rarely hitting, and after several moments of eye gouging, I teamed up with my SpS. As long as the SE got the killing blow in, she got credit. At one point I was dealing with a PKer (I've had to deal with a few this weekend, during these quests) who not only lured onto me and my SO but then prompted to PK me (my Sps), who THEN told me he would be right back. My clannies stepped in and they joined me on my quest. Like I said, I'm lucky, I have a great clan.
Finally, my SO completes her 2nd class quests and becomes a SE. My clan promptly offers top gear for her and my SpS. I'm now ready to start on my SpS journey. Have I mentioned I love my clan? :)
So..Now to find a good spot to hunt. I need books, so off I went to Tanor Canyon. Quickly learning I cannot solo here just yet, I then went to the crater under Ivory Tower. I was able to get a few books here. Fantastic. Then off to Enchanted Valley to hunt Flines, doable. Got a couple more books. Back to the crater. Not bad exp, but expensive. I've put off Tanor Canyon for awhile (Solar Flare book) as its incredibly social and dangerous. I found this out first hand. Happy to wait it out a bit :)
Wandering about to different places, I've settled on just outside Ivory Tower. 2 shotting Bugbears and Formers. At level 42, I was getting 30% exp per 30s mins. Not bad. I just hit 43. My SE is about 50% behind me so we'll stay here for a bit I think. Plenty of MP pots drop here. Sometimes I go 2 buff rounds without a single recharge.
The past couple of days I've been teaming with my clannies. We had a good time last night doing the Rift. They're in their 50s but we agreed to give a try on the 40s. It was chaotic and much fun. I first tried this without my SE. When things got tight I brought out my pony, but, after awhile it wasn't enough. This is also using Mana Regeneration and in walk mode. We were all hurting for MP. So we regroup and I brought my SE in. along with our clan Bishop. Much better. Problem was, I was getting too much aggro, just even standing there. I'm not sure what I could have done to avoid it. Those archers _hurt_ lol. I did however, invest in better jewelry today to help with those magic using mobs. In short, best time ever.
To sum up a few points...
I'm having a great time with my SpS and SE in tow. I love the look and feel of my character. There's no way I would be this fulfilled without my SE, but that's just my play style.
Hydro Blast is awesome. I use this to two shot the Bugbears and Formers.
Remaining in walk mode and using Mana Regeneration has helped a great deal. The key is to hunt where mp pots drop and mobs are relatively close together. I don't expect to find many other hunting spots this accommodating which is exactly why I have a SE in boxed.
Aura Flare is really fast and does nice damage. Very helpful when the Bugbears get too close.
My clannies who are melee really dig Freezing Skin.
I guess that's it for now. I'll post again as more interesting things occur or when I find a new spot.
