This post is because I see friends that just have to hit the cancel button. You shouldn't have to hit the cancel button (unless you run out of money to pay for your monthly fee). It just [923] me to see folks just be driven to quit.
So tell me a horror story of your own. To get the ball rolling, I will tell you a horror story.
My best gaming bud (who actually introduced me to L2) quit as a 42 Orc back in the days when hardcore gamers were around lvl 40. He was leveling like mad and while sleeping he had a crystals for C grade sheilds that made him rich and in top C stuff.
Then some dude and his group come in one day as he was leveling, and start harasing him. One flagged on him, went purple, so he downed him in 2 hits. But OMGZZZ ! He is RED !!!! (Mind you, in those days, you flagged purple, and stayed that way for 40 seconds, even if you went red in the meantime, so you couldn't even know you were red.
So a mob of folks killed him (And in those days you dropped your equipped weapon, and 2 pieces of armor, and 1 jewel when you died as a red.
So he hit the quit button. Could you blame him ?
He finished his time as a naked 42 Orc killing n00bZ because even if you died, you would spawn close. There was NO way out of Elmore. So my friend died there.
Well, I never really had any horror stories. I started playing about 1 year ago in C4. I had (and still have) plenty of reallife friends and family that play on the same server. I did get PKd on TI when I first made my char, but that was soon resolved seeing that most of my friends have been playing since C1. Anyhow, I was suited up by them and made along my merry little way. I only played for a few months before getting deployed and restarting my joyous adventures in L2 right after C5 went live.
So, not any horror stories here, but I have seen some quit the game because of scammers and/or repeated pks. It just makes some loose interest real quick. I don't take anything to heart in this game because it is just a game, but some, I swear, probably cry at night because they got deleveled and maybe scammed of their top weapon. The only people I could see being real hurt by that is ebayers, seeing that it is actual money they loosing. Of course, any smart person wouldn't spend money on virtual money. But, it does seem many people in Lineage 2 aren't too smart :P "No Offense to Ebayers".
If he had only 1 PK count, he could have washed and come back to mainland.
In orc land you can find mobs lvl 40ish (Ragna orc if I spell right) and in dwarf land, I think the mobs deep in mithril mines are at least level 35ish... but there... it might be quest mobs.
It's sad to quit for that, but it's sad he didn't look harder for a solution.
Ragna orcs are there since open beta I'm pretty sure, probably same thing for the mobs deep in mithril mines, since they're needed for the lvl 35 quest for warriors.
I think Ragna orcs are needed for a quest too but I can't remember which (and they used to be the only spoil source of the mithril dagger recipe).
ya, I needed to kill these orcs for some classquest. Was the first time I saw them, was surprised to find high lvl mobs in orcland. I did so far a wc, a destro and a tyrant quest, so not sure what quest it was (it wasnt the wc if im right, could been destro).
edit: lol, all 3 quests it was. this was for this present for the orclord.

Ragna Orcs have been around since beta, however, back in C1, you could not reach them.. As soon as you got halfway down the slope you got warped back to the top.
I dont think he so much quit because he went red, but rather because he lost his equipment. Main reason many quit those days and reason they changed drop chances in the 1st place.. You were lucky to even get top D before hitting level 40, in those days..
I remember lvling my first character. I had no D grade gear til 30 and then got a lucky weapon drop.. I thought I was big and bad and went after mobs I couldnt handle. Needless to say I dropped the weapon 2 days later along with my pants and the no grade weapon that was still in my inventory(I only died once). I seriously thought about quiting, but some friends helped me out with gear and I pushed on.
I can see how dropping most of your gear, especialy good gear would drive someone to quit if it couldnt be replaced though. However, it disgusts me to see bot trains runing around in full a grade now.
