Damage dealing healer??

Player Questions Started Last reply 34 posts
I have finally found out what i like doing the most in this game. I like healing best and dealing damage nearly as much.
So... If I want a damage dealing healer --what class fits this desire the best??
...or ... do I need to rethink and settle for something else??
any healer with duals can deal damage....but you wont be counted as a DD, however, I'd suggest you take a look into the phantom summoner (can heal, tank, and DD as the party needs)
Is the PS better than the ES??
ES is the nuker of the summoners (a summon can mass surrender water then aoe hydro blast) or can help mp regen of a party, can tank/dd w/ merrow or boxer too (forget which) PS have a built in VR on 1 pet, can heal party members, can tank and dd (I am no summoner expert, just from what I have seen friends do w/ their summoners)
PS rock as healers
i actually more often than not had a PS replace the EE or bish in my pole groups
really cant beat 1k heals with unlimited mp :P

Is the PS better than the ES??

PS has a summons that can heal quite effectively. ES has only baby heals and a healing cubit. The healing cubit is handy, but it is not a substitute for a real healer. The PS summons is an effective replacement for a healer.

So the question is, how much healing do you want to do?
Ork mages are usually expected to be in the front row meleeing and doing their buffs and heals once in a while, so they'd be a good option also.

Warlocks and ES have an almost infinite amount of mp to heal with thanks to their pet's mp recharge skill. But your heals will suck a lot, since you don't get new ones after 14 (except for your pets). PS have a much better cure, but they don't have the infinite mp the others have.

If you intend to solo, duo, or go in small parties, prophets and SEs are known to help out dish damage. Bishops can also participate in that. And EEs, well, they're elves so they can die for all I care ;)
A SE or EE in light armor with a dagger and shield do ok.

The SE has nice damage buffs, but can only really root if things go bad.

The EE has defensive buffs and can trance or recall (free bsoe) if your in trouble.

Both make for slow leveling solo, except for a few cases.
You can always tweak your stats and equipment to increase your damage output as a healer. However, you will never be able to even compare to the damage output of real damage dealers. Going all out damage wise will also affect your main job: healing.

One of my clannies plays a live SE. He has robes on, no tats to increase his damage output. He has a +9 B grade weapon and he is lvl 69. We were debating the other day who did more damage: him or the lvl <52 SWS is C grade in our party. Im sure he could boost his damage more, but his healing capacity would suffer.

Bishops and EE can kinda solo on undead with nukes. If you have extra mp and happen to hunt undead, nuke away!

You have a better chance of pulling off a support/fighter hybrid with a buffer (Warcryer or prophet) but neither one heals. If you like healing, these classes are probably not what your looking for.

active SE is my main now-- lvl45 and doing ok --
- love being able to save somones butt from impending doom
but hate not dealing damage and her casting speed is annoying.
I dunno --- sorta love/hate thing with SE and want a change and still be able to heal -----I like the Warlock summon -- but thats such a girl reason to make a choice .
I'm feeling as tho I need to find a different priority ATM.
Healing may be too hard to hold on to
Get some wit dyes for your SE. They help tremendously.
If you like healing do that !
Ive never been able to tear my heart away from my bishop.
As long as you know you wont be pulling agro (that means no soloing whatsoever) you could pull off a more damage oriented setup.

I would still stay in robes with +4 wit -4men tats (casting speed) you need it !

You could add a +4 str - 4 con and dagger w/shield or focus duals or haste duals.

If your fealling very adventurous , you could always add +dex - con tatoos, But do make sure you really dont get agro. Your carrying capacity is gonna drop alot, so you wont be able to carry as many shots as before. Oh, and youll get stuuneed alot more. This is trully an extreme pve damage output oriented setup for a healer. Heal VERY carefully, cause again you really dont want to get agro.

When your higher level I guess you could always take em off when you actually have a chance of not getting 1 shotted in pvp. But heck, if someone hits your for 7000 damage, what is that 600 hp you lost because of the -8 con gonna change?
My friend has an SE setup as a DD.
+4 Wit/-4 Men
+4 Str/-4Con
Plated Leather set
+11 duals

She deals good damage, but can't cast well at all.
If casting is important, she switches out the Plated Leather for Karmian robes.

My main is EE, and my DD is focused purely on nuking undead. I can add a little damage with my Spiritual Eye if healing is slow, but with 13 Str (-8 tats) its at best equal to a DoT.
Thanx all for the help---- I will try the tattoo route with my SE.
Why i keep seeing people trying to transform some classes in something they aren't? If you're a healer, heal, you can also go solo undeads, if you're a buffer go buff and eventually help your partners rooting but don't spend much mp on this. If you're an SE find a mage they love to duo with you... But, if you whant to kill tons of mobs, please go play another class, don't try going solo like a crazy with buffers/healers you will lvl slower and pbb die more then anything...
I'm so sick of being told 'your class can't do that'.

Would you tell a SwS with -STR to stop hitting because they're not doing enough damage? Probably not ... and guess what? They do less than a healer with +STR and/or plated leather set.

Healers can do a sizable amount of damage - it's not make-or-break in big parties, but it's definitely noticable in small groups.

Nuker duos for SEs (EEs have it a bit better thanks to Trance, I guess) are about as exciting as slowly drilling a hole into your foot using a cotton swab... So why not spice it up?

These classes come with nice modificators for personal PAtk and such for a good reason.
Ill have to agree that people shoudnt transform a class into what they are not. A healer's main job is healing. But there is nothing wrong with tweking your stats to help a bit damage wise.

Take my prophet. I have two sets of armor/weapons.
My job: buffing
Time required to buff 4-5 people: 1 min 40 seconds (+/- 10sec)
Buffing setup: casting speed bonus robes, acu weapon, +WIT tats

Then what? Root? I dont think so.
I switch my gear: Maj heavy, focus duals, have +str tats.
I might not be able to outdamage a DD, but I can sure as hell VR tank. Prophets have havy masteries, they are ment to be able to do other things than just buffing.
I run around with +5 WIT -5 MEN and Divine robe at the moment with my EE...gonna add +4 CON -4 STR and put on BW robe when I get to lvl 52. Why +5 WIT and Divine/BW robe? because of cast speed and the boost you get in you rez and the +4 CON is to have more HP so I can take 1 or 2 extra hits from the mobs before I die.
The "something you are not" theory is just stupid.

Healers heal, but frankly dead mobs do less damage than living ones.

Often a healer who knows what they are doing can CONSERVE mana by properly dealing damage when they can.

No, you will not be the party's damage leader, but frankly it doesn't matter. A properly played healer class can do a nice chunk of damage output and not risk their party members at all.

Frankly if the party is killing without additional downtime and without anyone dying, I'd say let the healer do as they will.
As an SE I do debuff as a rule -- windshackle seems to work best and poisen I use but its weak at best. I use root when mob warrants it and sleep in small parties to manage mob damage. I often will not be the buffer because of the commom SE buff pet and when I do it's usually only VR and WW. I do try to keep as busy as possible on hunts but it is not uncommon for me to have nothing to do ..
this is frustrating
I think it depends on the class. SE's have a great buff set that can enable them to do better damage than a EE or bishop. EE's have might 3, bishops have might 2 and zerk 1. Everything else those two have is defensive in nature (as far as meleeing goes). A SE has might 3, highest levels of focus, DW, guidance, and VR.
this game allows you to use a 2handed sword on a nuker, if that is what makes your jell-o jiggle. i hate games which only allow each class to use one line of weapons because that doesnt leave room for you to explore your class (or your character if you RP). although with the bow/pole nerf to mystics makes it seem that NC thinks mystics do too much damage.

In a group like that you want a dagger with crit dmg. You will be able to do a fair amount of damage. Get +dex and +wit dyes. You will want to play around with http://www.l2guru.com/l2calc/ to see what dex you want. Half of the stats dex affects only increase every other level, so a +3 could be almost as good as +4 depending on where you start from.

although with the bow/pole nerf to mystics makes it seem that NC thinks mystics do too much damage.

Among the top nerfs that need a repeal IMHO.

"Oh noes! we have too many healers who aren't 2-boxed!"

"Oh noes! People are nuking 120 mobs at a time!"
->Nuker AOE nerf.

"Oh noes! *Everyone* without polemasteries is using a pole!"
->Non-Mastery Pole nerf.

"Oh noes!" Buffers/Healers in Olympiad can root & pole/bow everyone else!"
->Mystic's Bow and Pole Nerf.

Does anyone else here see a trend other than me?

And thus AOE groups are now uncommon where they used to be the norm... archer groups now rule the world... and archery continues to get major buffs. Apparently its overpowered for a party to ready polearms and for mages's spells to hit everything in the area when archers shooting mobs in excess of 10k every other shot is not.

What exactly was wrong with people grouping up and actually making XP together in 9-man groups?
The result is 4-6 man groups full of buffers and archers...
Great plan.

Because while rooted the person rooted couldn't pull out a bow or polearm and hit them back... and because there weren't adequate ways to stop root from landing...
Yet paralyze, silence, and now fear are still one-hit landslide-victories and stunshot is still more than viable on a class known for 1-shotting the majority of players anyway.

Yah... knee jerk fixes that not only didn't work, but made things worse.

Do I need to start on sleep and the new fear?
The Orcs Sleep still works ------well.
My SE has to be real carefull when casting sleep or everyone in the party could be dead before she gets done casting it.

AOE groups are now uncommon where they used to be the norm.

I am in about 5~6 AoE groups to every single target group I join, wouldn't call them uncommon. :)
Can you pole? sure....

Is it better than single target anymore?

Rarely.

There are still times to do so... but they are rare and require mob densities that are not usually findable unless you play on a VERY empty server.

I really wish there were more... even as it is... I just can't convince people to take the massive hit to XP they will take over an archer party...
We seem to have no problem finding a few adjacent catacomb rooms - you just have to go to places that do things like stun etc. Very managable with the right support.
The difference is what we are used to...

I am used to pulling many more than 2 full catacomb rooms (stunners and all) with a 6 or more member party. Note this is just one pull... (we usually needed multiple locations to bring the party to potential)
In C3 we use to do pole groups with "useless" classes, the leader would hand out poles and everyone would start wacking. Too bad you can't do that now.
You can still do it, it just requires more careful lining-up, wideblow SAs and relatively small pulls - 2, 3 rooms, they won't hit everything, but it'll still help. We usually have 3~5 rooms to pull from from what I know, I know we don't start with just 2 unless we are lacking buffs and DDs.

Anyway, we're going off topic. ^_^

Nah, you can deal damage as a healer/buffer. Not as good as a real DD of course, but it is enough to make a difference in a party. Since your stats (STR, ...) are worse than those of a real DD, your hits will also do less damage. So to deal significant damage, you have to make sure you deal lots of crits. That's why many prefer a dagger with focus SA (e.g. dark screamer/focus, Kris/focus).

Here's an example of what's possible at higher levels. Pagan's party with 2 BH (one of them 6x), BD 75, Hierophant, Shillien Saint. Both the Hierophant and me were using Kris/Focus. Pagans is a good place for melee groups, VR works very well there (notice the near total lack of healing in this replay). 4xhp and 5xhp lvl 81/82 mobs in these rooms. Quite good exp there. It is not the most spectacular replay, but it is just intended to show that healers/buffers CAN act as a halfway decent also-DD in a group. You usually can go non-stop there until the SS run out.
