I've never had a Strider but lately was wondering if they could be used effectively to chase after people that kite in PvP. How long does it take to mount strider, run after target, dismount, stun attack? Someone must know whether this tactic is even remotely possible.
Also, is there a Strider level restriction if you just use it for running around? What is the run speed? Can you cast zerk and WW on it? Do you have to rebuff it whenever you mount it or do the buffs stay on it (like they do if you log out)? I was kind of hoping I could mount it, buff it, then dismount and store it away in the buffed state for when I needed to use it.
EDIT: fully buffed my run speed is 165 (soon to be about 170 when I add my Dex tats) so if the strider can't beat that it seems like a waste.
In general you wil run faster when your mounted on a strider.
If you dont have buffs like ww while mounted on the strider there might be only a few classes that wil run faster or with same speed due selfbuffs. If you have ww on strider while your mounted you should be still faster.
If you put back a pet ( unsummon ) it looses all buffs.
Tactics like summon mount run after, stun ect. wont work.
There are 2 reasons:
1. when your in attack mode you cant summon pets.
Means when u get hit by a PK or enemy you will change to attack mode and summon the strider wil become impossible.
2. If the character your chasing runs all time you cant use any meelee skills on him. You will always get the message target is to far away. Only remote attacks work.
Striders are more to speed up running in general.
You can also use them in siege when your noblesse or while hunting to have support and a little extra damage.
I think for the hunting thing only a star stryder is worth getting his burst hurts a lot at higher lvls.
If you are lower level than the strider you get a big speed penalty. It seems to me that when I mount the strider on my main and sub my run speed increases by 20. I'll have to double check it. One thing that sucks is that you can't sing/dance while on the strider. Song of Wind while on the strider would be pretty fast.
Do songs work on the rider if a Swordsinger is in party right now? I never got the chance to test it, the + in run speed would make movement fast on a strider.
Yes, I wind strider riders sometimes - they run really fast lol.
Getting on a strider cancels your songs/dances but not other buffs. When riding a strider you are actually just a new char model, can run faster, and cannot us a weapon or physical skills - not really two entities just the normal toon with a passive skill.
Riding a strider adds 20 points of speed just like a buff so as a SwS I only have ~4 more speed on a strider then with just wind up; it is not worth the bother of summoning and feeding my strider.
I used to be able to dismount, sing, re-summon and run off, then it was changed so it cancelled songs/dances/pots when mounting a strider, then they fixed it so pots worked at least.
