New player needs help

Player Questions Started Last reply 12 posts
Hi, I am very new in L2 (and in online RPG as well for that matter). (I played literally just 3 days, and now lvl 15 (elf, mystic, developing into SS). I’ve puzzled out some of the things in the game by reading this and other forums and fan sites. But there are still a lot of questions (and I am sure there will be even more as I progress). So I hope you can help me out with some of them. :)

1. Alternative chars

I read that a lot of people have several chars that they use to their benefits. What are these benefits, how to use several chars (technically) and do they have to be on the same server for that?

2. Tips for parties

As I am so new to online RPG I keep my ears open for any tips for partying that you might want to share. I’ve been invited to parties twice, and both by some “strange” people. I mean it was fun to hunt together, but when I tried to talk to them, maximum info that I could learn is the level (because that is how they addressed me). I do not know what to make out of this. Are such “silent” parties normal? Anyway any tips will be appreciated.

3. Clans

I like very much to play, but fortunately I have real life as well, so I cannot play several hours every day as many clans demand as I’ve read. But I still want to get the most out of the game with all its PvP, clan wars, sieges. Are there any clans on any server that take people like me – who like playing, who are nice people ;) and who spend just reasonable time in game. Since I know both English and Russian I might take on a role as a communicator if such need exists in any clan.

4. Academy

If not a clan, then what Academy will you recommend (first of all on Franz as I’ve started there). Any tips please?

5. Inventory and warehouse

How to increase the size of inventory? Also if I put some things in the warehouse is the fee fixed or I have to pay for the time it’s been kept there?

6. Farming

I got a little confused with this manor system and purchasing volume: when I collect planted fruit do I just go to the manor guy and sell any quantity that I have or I have to have some specific quantity?

7. Spell books as weapons?

What is this and what is better - a spellbook or a magic weapon?

8. Lionna

RP appeals greatly to me and I’ve read a lot of opinions that say that Lionna is the best in RP. What exactly does it mean in regards to MMOG and this server?
Well, first off welcome to L2!
And to begin to answer your questions...here goes!

1. Alts: a very good idea. They must be on the same server as there are no server to server transfers. Most make either a dwarf artisan for crafting or scavy for the spoils. You have up to 7 character slots per server so making/using/deleting alts is easy. You can make light elves for the quests delete them before class change (deleting takes 7 days per toon) they are well worth the minimal hours used to gain the adena from questing.

2.'Silent' parties are not the norm. If you find you arent happy with the group, leave. Listen to people talking, join in conversations. This is the best way to get to making friends.

3. The same goes for this question. Most of us do have a RL *shudders* ewww. If you find a clan that insists you spend x amount of time ingame or that you reach x lvl by a certain time then this is not the clan for you.

4. Academies are lower levels of each clan. If you don't like the clan you wont like the academy.

5. WH fee is 30 adena per item you deposit. You don't have to pay more over time for what you have stored.

6. I'm a bounty hunter and havent spent much time on manoring so I can't really answer that question.

7. There are a 'few' spellbooks as weapons. The regular spell books you buy from the book seller or magic shop are for learning your skills. Your best weapon will be one with a higher m attack.

8. Lionna is our unofficial rp server. There tends to be more rp clans and rp in general on Lionna than other servers. If you like to rp then I would suggest switching servers to Lionna. Read the Lionna links and post there for more help. Olerae will love to get hands on you!@!!

Here (http://lineage2.stratics.com/content/library/quests/index.php?view=lvl) is my favorite place to check up on quests. Maline does quite a few of the quest write ups and they are a wonderful help!

Hi =)

First, the common shortcut ya seek is SpS ^.^ SS have bigger, uhm, attack power?

1. Alternative chars

I read that a lot of people have several chars that they use to their benefits. What are these benefits, how to use several chars (technically) and do they have to be on the same server for that?

Well, im not so sure how to answer this. Alternative char would be some other char, where ya choose another class. All toons on 1 server are individuals (from their inventory/warehouse), but for a fee you can transfer items to them (1.00a/item) if they are on the same server. Another kind of alt what a lot of ppl have is a so called box. That is just another account where ppl created a supportclass so they can lvl alone.

Well, most ppl are on vent/ts and ignore chat :o I dont want to make ya feel sad, but as a nuker you will have it a hard time to find partys later.

3. Clans

Im pretty sure these clans exist ^^ Just ask around and have a look into your serverforum here.

4. Academy

If not a clan, then what Academy will you recommend (first of all on Franz as I’ve started there). Any tips please?

Well, take the academy where ppl are nice, and where ya might continue your path in L2. Or take the one that offers the most money ^.^

5. Inventory and warehouse

How to increase the size of inventory? Also if I put some things in the warehouse is the fee fixed or I have to pay for the time it’s been kept there?

The fee is fix, 30a for any item send into WH, free to get them out. You dont have to pay for the time its inside. As for the inventory: Fishing (but thats a pain in the Agrade soulshots, better forget about that for now).

6. Farming

I got a little confused with this manor system and purchasing volume: when I collect planted fruit do I just go to the manor guy and sell any quantity that I have or I have to have some specific quantity?

Uhm, have a look at http://lineage2.stratics.com/, I think they have a manor guide. But for ya question, you can resell any quantity (as long as the lord buys it).

7. Spell books as weapons?

What is this and what is better - a spellbook or a magic weapon?

Spellbooks are *censored*. Best choice is a 1H mage blunt/sword with a shield.

8. Lionna

RP appeals greatly to me and I’ve read a lot of opinions that say that Lionna is the best in RP. What exactly does it mean in regards to MMOG and this server?

Well, L2 does not have this much RP (well, in some term we have it, but its called shittalk here...). I got no clue what Liona is like ^.^

Well, im not so sure how to answer this. Alternative char would be some other char, where ya choose another class. where u been? 1000 adena per itemSTACK per Transfer.

still it exists; transfer 100 animal skin from one guy, then 200 animl skin form a 3rd toon to the same guy and you get 2 stacks to remove from WH freightman.

1k per stack is a bit high for a newb anyway. imo.
Everyone thanks a lot for your advices.

Just some clarification please:

How exactly are things transfered? Via a warehouse?

I do not understand at all what is meant here and how it works. :(

Yes. In every town's warehouse, there's an NPC with the title 'Warehouse Freightman' that allows you to send items to other characters on your account.

Simplest way to put it: If you have two (or more) accounts and choose to play both at the same time, the primary character you're controlling would be considered your 'main' character and the other character(s) would be considered 'alternates' or 'boxes'. The term derives from the techie slang term for computers (boxes, since that's what they used to look like back when they were 'new'). Therefore, if you have 3 computers in your room, people might say you have three boxes in your room. In MMO terms, if I was 2boxing (or two-boxing), that would mean that I'm playing two characters at once. If I'm multiboxing, that means I'm playing three or more characters at once. So if I said, "I'm boxing Kerrina to get her some xp", that would mean that I'm playing Kerrina in addition to my (main) character for the purposes of getting Kerrina more XP. Usually though, it's the other way around. I would say, "I'm boxing Kerrina so I can get some xp", denoting the fact that I'm playing Kerrina to help me get more xp on my (main) character.

Incidentally, it's also a good idea to pay attention to context. People new to MMOs can often be confused by the term 'bot' unless they pay attention to the context it's being used in. If someone says, "I'm bringing my healbot with me....", that means they're bringing along an alt character who is a healer. It doesn't necessarily mean the same thing as if someone said, "Those bots are deleveling on guards". That would refer to automated characters (via scripting or what-have-you) who aren't being actively controlled by a human player. The former isn't necessarily a bad thing (though there are folks who do believe playing more than one character at a time is 'cheating'), the latter most definitely is since it violates the TOS/EULA.

Hope that helps some. :)
Many thanks, RemianenV, it does help a lot! A very clear explanation! :)
One use of alt characters is to help earn money, which is a very big part of Lineage II (unless you feel inclined to cheat). Many money making ways (spoiling, a dwarf skill that generates extra items, and manoring, a system where you can eliminate your normal drops for a steady flow of valueable basic materials) work best at a particular level, so some people like to keep an alternative character near that level to gain maximum profit out of that.

It is also helpful just to level an alt (as in the way of secondary character on the same account) in the same gear as your main character, to try having 'more time to earn money' before new gear is needed. :)

In regards to quiet parties, some people aren't talkative in party - especially if they are in the same clan, they might be talking through different channels. Try looking for people who are more chatty if that is your style.

In regards to group make-up, if you're still low level, you might want to aim for duos - either with a DD in a herb area, or with a healer in a dungeon style place (catacombs and necropoli are good, read about them here (http://www.lineage2.com/Knowledge/sevensigns.html) ).

Re: Clans. Finding a casual clan on any given sever should be no problem - just look around a little. However, a fair word of warning - trying to PvP or siege on a low playtime schedule without getting your face rubbed in the dirt by those who DO play several hours a day and/or cheat is difficult.

As for the manor buyback volumes - there is a limited amount of seeds for sale each day, and a limited amount of crop bought back. It's tricky to learn, and probably not worth using if you don't either have a friend who can do it for you or can be online for the hand in.

To me, that is at 2 AM at the moment... a true pain in the neck. There's a tiny frame (maybe 1, 2 seconds top) once every 24 hours where the popular crop will be bought back and the popular seeds will be sold before the quantity for the day is gobbled up.

PS: Aren't you confusing EllieBellie and me, Mela? I haven't done a quest guide for stratics in a long time.
Probably so. My memory isn't as good as it used to be. :( Its ok though, as long as I dont mix up my bf with Johnny Depp Im safe!
Thanks.

I am not exactly a chattering box, but I find it quite strange when people join after exchanging the info on lvl and then start running around and killing around without any particular aim or destination.
thats L2 for ya im afraid
you just find the mob that gives the best xp and kill it till you cant handle it anymore
dungeons are just one of the places we keep some of the mobs

Lionna, as a L2 server, is functionally no different than any other. We have a sizeable community of Role-Players on the server, but we are by no means a majority, nor is the RP community a dominant factor on the server. We are not without influence however. The community holds RP-related events, some open to everyone, others are events between clans or alliances, on a fairly frequent basis.

For more information about Lionna and the RP community, check out www.L2RPA.org (http://www.L2RPA.org) !

I'm not sure if you're asking what RPing means to MMOGs in general. If so, if there had never been RPers, there would never have been fantasy-based MMOs at all.
