need some advice, but before i ask my question, i'm aware that one should play a class that he/she likes to play, not what others say. but still i'd like some opinions from players that have been playing these two classes for a while.
i'd like to stick with one class instead of playing alternates here and there, my question is with interlude around the corner, which class should i stick with and play it exclusively. my 63 glad or my 56 destroyer?
i'm a fan of melee, but both of these classes have very different fighting styles, both are fun in their individual ways, just want to play one class and stick with until the end.
i'll appreciate any thoughts and advice. if the server helps, i'm on Hindemith.
both are die hards
only their weapons are what matters gladi use mostly duels
Destroyers more pole's and 2 handed weapons
most likely both deal same amount of damage only i think duels are cheaper in use
also if my equipment will help in factoring which to play exclusively, then currently i share my BO jewelry and BW heavy between my two toons, my glad uses a +7 tsu*sls and my destroyer uses a +6 GS with focus and an orcish poleaxe with crit stun (the switching of bss to css is a pain sometimes). i plan on getting tallum for Agrade.
its basically the same
glads are beasts in olympiad but their damage is pretty easily lowered with the use of pots
now lets see someone besides a UDed tank try and out pot spam the damage of a destro

hhah i'd like to see that too... frensied titan critting for 9200+ damage almost every hit... can we say serial killer boys and girls?
i saw a video of a frenzied/raged titan (posted here a couple of days ago), and i've never seen anything like that, completely ridiculous how he was downing archers/mages/robes in 2/3 swings at max, and like Ssxsin has mentioned he was critting a little over 10k damage. but hearing about how crits are getting nerfed a bit, not sure which melee road to take?
Well, to be honest Destroyer is only 'uber strong' for a short period of time. 90 seconds (Frenzy/Rage/Zealot) and is only acheiveable when under 30% hp. Quite workable and powerful in the Olympiad, but suffers heavily from being kited in open pvp.
Refresh on Frenzy and such is 5 min, but can be reduced by atk.spd modifiers. (You need a really specialized set of buffs/gear to have a 'fast' refresh on these skills, and is only really workable for pve.)
If you go more for open pvp I would think the gladiator would be a more 'fun' choice. (You at least have some ranged attack skills.) In pve I'd say the two are nearly the same. Destroyer has a few more options and is able to burst some really hefty damage. Gladiator though, can keep up with the damage output and has more skills to throw around to vary the grind.
Rage alone can be cycled almost nonstop with haste2 and risk haste dagger. Add to that Tallum Heavy and BD, you can cycle Frenzy, BR and Zealot quite fast too. To add even more speed, some go for DEX tattoos, going for the -8con, or -9.
-9CON is still viable for PVP, the HP is still higher than what most classes have even with +CON, and the Patk is really much more than on a -STR Destro.
Kiting isnt that bad anymore if you are well prepared and walk in with Frenzy and Zealot running. If you're jumped or ganked while porting etc. then it is a different deal. But if you know where your enemies are, Frenzy up and go in to have some fun.
I'd go with the Glad since it is higher lvl = less grinding ahead. And it has ranged skills, needs less equipment and generally doesnt need to be on the brink of death to be _great_,

Lemme jump in here, from the little experience I have.
My best friend (in RL) plays a Gladiator. He has insane amounts of troubles leveling, unless he gets into a good melee party with a BD, SE, and either a PP or EE. This may be partially his fault though because I have never known a person to die so much.
In pvp though, if he can get into range he can drop any robe use (minus Transfer pain users) in a matter of seconds.
As for a destroyer (have played on on PTS before) and decided that is the class I am going to subclass. Imho, destoyer with a SE will level sooo much faster than a gladiator. Pole arms ftw! I am serious. I honestly believe Destroyers can level faster than Gladiators. But in pvp without range and frenzy, they don't have those 'pin point' skills that the gladi does. But with rage and frenzy, a destroyer kills a robe user in about the same time as a gladiator. If you were going to pit a gladiator and a destroyer against eachother in pvp and the destroyer got guts, rage, frenzy, the gladiator is dead, without a doubt.
So which is the better class? I myself think a destoyer, especially when I see 2 titans take out a raidboss with the correct buffs. But gladiators will basically own olympiads and any unbuffed char that they can touch. With a polearm I think destoyers have an advantage. When my gladiator friend (who doesn't get lvl 40+ pole masteries) uses a pole arm to level half the time in catacombs, you start to understand.
Guess the real question is, do you have the means and the knowledge to pull trains? The healers, the gear? Destoyers need a pole arm, a two handed weapon, a blunt if the two handed weapon is a sword (it can be a cheap blunt), many get a bow when they hit A grade. Gladiators can basically just have duals since they get range attacks, and all their good skills are dual centered. Not to mention you don't need an SA crystal.
So that is my opinion on it, so hopefully this will help in your decision.
meh, actually i think i am gonna go back to my tyrant cuz i mean id rather play a DD then a support class in pvp and from what everyone tells me about lvling up OL's is basically they lvl slow as hell but i dont know i mean im kinda gettin tired of playin tyrants anyone have any other suggestions on any good classes to play i general like classes that can own people pretty fast i might re roll a abyss walker

Destroyers are an amazing class to play. However if you're looking at olympiad and 1v1 a gladi will own ne class, even a destroyer. Cuz all u gotta do is lower him to when he needs his 30% skills, then just turn on sonic move (once interlude has released) then just stay out of range of him for a little bit, then turn around and kill him.
As for poles ya destroyers can 3 shot entire trains, i've seen it myself, but i pole for my grinding and i dont do too bad w/ my few pole masteries (using accuracy, vicious stance, and War Cry lvl 2). But ya destroyers do have gladi beat there.
Gladiators have many options for what weapons to use, polearm (not ur best option for ne thing except pve), duals (main weapon used), single sword w/ shield (Fatal Strike, Sonic Blaster, etc.), or a single blunt w/ shield (hammer crush and the skills you can use w/ a sword). Downside to no SA crystal is that u have to oe ur duals to get a SA on ur duals.
For pvp gladi's have a ton of skills to use and if u can get em down they're amazing. Especcially in interlude since we get sonic move and at 78 a skill that makes us invulnerable for 10sec(take that rage and frenzy).
Destroyers are a great class close up but gladi's are pretty much great everywhere, gladi's just require a ton of mana to be really powerful.
Maitreya i do not understand
i tested on PTS a Gladiator with a WC buffer
i was useing a Storm*Storm duels with Draco Light armor sinds that was the only posable combo to get that time
i did go to WoA and i wasted the 2x mobs their like they where made of penuts triple slash case so much devistating damage on the mob it almost instantly die.
also the skills bepands on the sword you use so lets say you have great weapon like Tsu/SLS +10 your damage output is insane

ty for your advice here, but let me ask u this, i've a 61SE at my disposal at all time that also helps me in duoing. will that help in continuing to level the glad?
I play a destro and they do rock. Then I went to the pts and made a 77 Titan with IC and a dragon hunter axe. I couldnt believe the monster I was.
I had a WC, Sag, and BD in party and we were in IT deep. With the VR4 I was unstoppable. I never needed heals and only got low enough to frenzy once. When I did I cleared out two floors.
Had a pvp where I took out two Necros and their summons. Went to the arena where I took out Sags and Nukers on a pretty consistent basis especially when I was frenzied.
Overall I thought my class wasnt to great at pvp because by the time I had to pop my frenzy I was only one or two shots from being dead. On the pts I was able to pop it with just over 3k hp.
Now all I want to do is get my Destro to 77....only 6 lvls to go woot. I dont know much about Gladi's but I can tell you that a Destroyer/Titan rocks. I must say that the PTS has given me a lot of hope and motivation to get them levels!
Glad power! Frankly I love playing glads, I've had one on Kain, and remade him on Franz. If you get past the fact that you don't need to lvl really really fast to have fun, any class is good to play. I'll admit that sometimes I zone out and grind, but for any class you have to learn to have fun as well.
Thats my two cents. Choose what you have fun with. Frankly I have issues playing Orcs, cause I just don't find them as fun. Also I have one of my best friends whos a Tyrant, and I'm looking forward to having a class Tyrant vs Glad fight. Kekekeke.
One comment: If you plan on doing much soloing, and you don't have a buffbot, go with a Glad (or a Tyrant, if that were your inclination). That's just my opinion. The reason: Destroyers, while rugged, have a slow run speed. Thus, when running around solo in a field with herbs, I would expect either a Glad or Tyrant to level much better than a Destroyer.
just hit 64 on my glad over the weekend (retail). duelist spirit is oh so SO gooood :) i guess i got my answer after all the research and advice from everyone, so ty all for the help and feedback :)
