Ok I have an alt that's about to hit 40 and I cannot decide between Sorc and WL.
Necro is out purely because she is only an alt and my money goes on my main.
I would like opinions on the pro's and cons for the two classes and what armor and weapon is required for them. B Grade will be a long way off and A grade probably won't happen.
both classes require EXTENSIVE chains of adena to power-up to the max. warlock moreso.
the hardest thing in this game is grinding a summoner. its 30% slower than anything else, and takes 30% more money.
the sorc will have the SLOWEST time of your alts if you arent boxing a recharger.
if you want to save your money, and give your clan some good rep points and not really require uber gear, level a healer. you spend far less money, and although you level slowly, you will always be needed.
If its an alt, then you probably won't want to be sitting around a lot, Warlock I say, and you seem to be cat person anyway :)
In terms of expense using shots and beastshots should break you even if you want to XP fast. Manor if you want keep costs down cos Summoners are manor beasts.
Gearwise you can live with C Grade nuker gear till B grade, after that its recommended that you switch to melee for grinding , although an OE C grade acumen weapon does come in handy for PVP.
Oh and you're not limited to using the 30% grind summon as spudnik might suggest, Kai is a very good solo summon.
I'm approaching the same dilemma you are, so maybe I'm not the best person to answer you. But at the moment I'm leaning toward the Sorcerer because I don't want to have to rely on an endless supply of crystal for every little action.
But I look forward to hearing other people opinon in case I'm wrong. :)
Warlocks are slightly more expensive, but sure as hell not 10% slower than other solo classes (they don't level with Kat unless they are being silly :p ).
I think warlock is the more well-rounded and fun class, but I have been saying that since C1 and have therefore been labelled as officially biased.
warlock. personaly I dont like nuker classes at all. I want to stabb stuff. and warlocks are fun, and usefull in groups, sorc is neither.
if you want, you can save the money on gear (get cheaper gear) what you have to pay extra for shots and crystals. so it can be "cheap".
warlocks do NOT level slow. and their grind summon takes 10% xp away, so its not a biggie. in groups you will prolly have queen out and she takes only 5%.
no mather what, you will be leveling faster then any other class solo, I belive. does solo catacombs sound good to you?
at lvl59 I have no problems solo a big medusa room in apostate (with outside buffs). without the outside buffs you would be just fine with easier room or a smaller room.
A PS is only slow to level before they can sustain the full life span of a soulless. Once you can solo soulless, you won't want to go back to the shadow.
It's WK = warlock, WL= warlord.....two totally different classes!!
Secondly, Sorc suck to lvl in their 70's... and you can never find a AoE group to lvl your sorc with.
no matter how high you get your sorc M atk, it will all ways be promance, promance, aura flair. on 1X hp mobs. (tested it on my old Sorc subclass(pts))
they have poor mana regen. unlike Necro/SH.
WK are awesome, I have a hero friend and know a few other high lvl WK's, they all use Kai for lvling....and Kai has alot of P df and HP, hes a tank and a DD....
Kai is awesome on the PTS with a friend I put btb 6 on him and he had like 8k HP. 2k more then my FS had. :confused: :eek:
with Kai, and my BD we owned Pagens (out of party cardnal, hiro)
Queen is usely used in PvP parties that are eathier all dagger or all archer. not normally used in PvE.. she has low hp and low P atk.
Just go Necro. Best of both worlds... with ridiculously few drawbacks.
Actually... if you want to get technical... Claw/Spike/B2m/Cdl/ corpse burst is better than prom/auraflare/rain of fire/blazing circle.... and necro summons > than WK... the only drawback being the fact that you can't buff/ heal them yourself.
Even if you want to complain about the cost of cursed bones.... just consider that vamp claw + b2ming still gives better exping than using a sorc/ wk.
It is true they require some money to begin with... the summons are not cheap.... they cost crystals and they burn pet ss.... but the truth is:
-40-48 you are still a nuker. Two-nuke until you are out of mana then summon Kat and recharge and send Kat into a herd of mobs while you nuke them all down. Recharge while YOU run to the next small group of mobs and start nuking... send Kat into the respawed group of mobs... through this pattern you will return to full mana.... dismiss Kat (yes believe it or not sometimes it is best to not have a pet) when he is out of mana and you are full... repeat.
Note in this varaition you do NOT need pet soulshots.
You are a slightly more expensive nuker who never runs out of mana.
48-mid5x You can pick and choose... frankly, I liked using Kai better but the Kat pattern still works... somewhere in mid 5x your nukes start to become pretty inefficient compared to just letting Kai own them.
Kai with pet ss spam is expensive... but frankly if you skip your cubics and ss for you, you will come off slightly more expensive than a nuker to level up... (do NOT put bsps for heals on spam... use when you need them)
Note your equipment can STAY Karmian and a Mysterious sword (x2 css/cbsps with acumen!) for some time. Your damage output is pitiful in comparison to Kai anyway... you just need something in case Kai is taking a break... (or wandered off)
Your XP even with Kat out is NOT 30% slower than everyone else. Everyone else either kills slower or has downtime... summoners do NOT have this problem.
Kai hits like a truck and fast to boot... he isn't very tough, but he does not need to be.... he will take surprising chunks of 4x mobs and pretty much eat them for breakfast.
Did I mention that once you get queen you become one of the most popular group members period?
All this AND you can solo what most classes cannot dream of.
(When you get good you will be ironman soloing (and clearing) large rooms of 4x mobs... indeed most rooms don't have enough mobs for Kai to eat...
