General Discussion Started Last reply 13 posts
wow. i literally jumped when i read this email to hotmail address and almost answered it right away per the 48 hour notice deadline ....until i noticed that the return address was to a gmail.com account ! The other thing that threw me off was there there was no "Thanks for playing LineageII" message !

If this type of scam has already been posted somewhere, pls forgive me.

Thanks for posting a warning about this!

Remember, NCsoft will never ask you for your password in an email or anywhere other than logging into PlayNC.com or a game. Emails asking for your game or PlayNC password are typically fraudulent, especially emails that claim an action will be taken against your account.
Thanks for your quick response, Mistryl. I'm a fairly responsible person but i'll tell you guys, the "formal" look to this complaint of "violation" at quick glance looks pretty good. There are other things wrong with it but I won't point it out so that the person doesn't become more savvy next go-around. What saddens me is that it's most likely someone i know who sent that to me from my MSN hotmail list....

the way to know for certain that only NC will ever contact you and never a ****: dont use your msn contact as your plaync email validation.

this way, if you see one day a "plaync" email in your hotmail, you KNOW its fraudulent.
Given the detail of your server and the use of your email account, it is possible that someone in your clan/ally (whatever circle you email to) is the source.

Heh, watch your back in L2...in so many ways!

I love this game.
Most of these things are enough wrong you can figure it out, but we all should already know ncsoft won't ask for stuff like that through email.

I did get something similar from a fake paypal address recently though, got up to yell at my husband for spending more **** money on ebay not even noticing it was sent to my website address, which I use for nothing, invalid link, etc etc.

Hm anyway ... whenever I was reporting a problem or changed password etc., I received e-mail back that begins with something like
"Hello <insert toon/account name here>
Thank you for contacting support ..."
or such. Not just "Dear playNC user" ... or am I wrong and NC uses also general greeting phrases in replies and requests?
As I recall, all the official emails I have ever received from NCSoft lead with my name, account name or character name, depending on what they were about.
Greetings,

Ok, here is another warning...

Subject: important message for your health
Date: Sat, 17 Mar 2007 04:11:05 +0000

There is a dangerous virus being passed around electronically, orally, and by hand. This virus is called Worm-Overload-Recreational-Killer (WORK). If you receive WORK from any of your colleagues, your boss, or anyone else via any means DO NOT TOUCH IT. This virus will wipe out your private life completely.

If you should come into contact with WORK, put your jacket on and take two good friends to the nearest grocery store. Purchase the antidote known as Work-Isolating-Neutralizer-Extract (WINE) or Bothersome-Employer-Elimination-Rebooter (BEER). Take the antidote repeatedly until WORK has been completely eliminated from your system.

P.S. You should forward this warning to 5 friends. If you do not have 5 friends, you have already been infected and WORK is controlling your life.

Have Fun ! ™
