Newb Dwarf Question

Player Questions Started Last reply 14 posts
I believe I will be doing a WC so I wanted my friend to do a melee class. He is thinking the dwarf race.

Therefore....

Could someone let me know if Dwarves are beneficial end-game. I know they are needed for castles (I assume this), but is it like when a guild has one dwarf they don't need anymore??

Also, which of the two dwarf classes is one better off playing for end-game. Which one has the most benefits??

Just need some opinions and why.

Thanks again all !!
You need atleast 2 dwarves in a clan to have the good recipies and even more to have them all learned. Dwarves have a hella stun when they get high lvl. Yes, they are great in seiges with their Seige summons and they scavengers are good as well especially when high level to spoil for some rare or expensive recipies. Although I don't play a dwarf as my main, I'd definalty say that I would accept many dwarves into my clan. They are assets in many different ways and that Stun gets me everytime in PvP.
Thanks for the quick response
if you play a dwarf make sure to play a dwarf berzerker. they can throw 1handed blunts to stun enemies at range, they have 3 nukes, dual blunt masteries, and the UBER Prophecy Of Earth! they can also jump over low walls, roll into a ball like armidillo (mobile UD but the catch is you cant STOP moving) they can use crossbows that shoot through heavy armor classes like butter, they can heal their summon with a new "repair" skill, and they can still use spoil level1 to minor effect at later levels, like the warsmith.
/end dream
in all serriousness dwarves are not effective or even needed at end game. anything you can craft for your clan, takes a LOT of effort for you to get the recipe, walf8dn34hjc8 sitting in town allready has it. unless u have a recharger on another account you will be virtually useless when trying to make ss. at seiges golems can can be destroyed by the "erase" skill which every other support class in game has (and in end game everyone has 2, 3 or 18+ accounts so really just about everyone has a class that can one shot your summon), and works with a very high land rate. it is more cost effective to nuker/archer the castle door down than to summon a golem. only reason people play dwarfs is because they were somehow tricked into thinking they were cute, or they started one in prelude and are so masochistic that they refuse to reroll. if he is going to make one id say bounty hunter. at least you can spoil enchants. a low level dwarf, unfortunately, is very helpful for making D and C crystals, therefore a lot of people have them.
Wow, two very different responses !!
Dorf are hard to level, if you want a really good mele class Ill recommend an orc Destroyer they can pole as good as a Warlord and they can also wield a big nasty sword to chop trough literally anything, they have a ton of HP/CP and they are really fun to play

Any person who *plays* a Dwarf will tell you the same thing.

DO NOT PLAY ONE AS YOUR MAIN.

Dwarves are 95% unnecessary, and those who watched the changes over the various chronicles are sure that the last 5% will be removed sometime in the future by the developers...it's just a matter of when.

Dwarves as a matter of design are the absolute gimpiest melee chars. Melee damage is almost wholly a matter of criticals in Lineage 2. He who crits the most and the hardest wins. And the main weapon of a Dwarf is a Blunt. Which it the absolute lowest critical rate weapon in the game by a significant factor. (Relying on a blunt user to do damage pretty much renders critical buffs ineffective...) And this is even before you realize that dwarves have the fewest skills both active and passive. The one 'main' skill they get is almost a complete waste of MP. (Stun) I say almost, because dwarves really don't get anything else to spend their MP on in combat...and if the dwarf is a BH, then the MP is far better spent on attempting to get a spoil than wasting it on a stun.

Dwarves also get polearm masteries, but having to find and AOE mobs all the time can be frustrating for many people. (WC buffs will be inadequate by themself for AOE in a duo before your pretty much in A grade.)

Bounty Hunters main 'skill' is spoil. Which is rendered weak and useless for all but a handful of spoils due to the extremely poor Spoil tables. Any other melee character using manor seeds has more material gathering power than a BH. Also a significant number of key materials are either aquirable via quest or simply don't exist as spoils at all. (B grade recipes and parts I'm looking at you!)

Warsmith's main skill is crafting/crushing. Except it only takes a tiny handful of 'crafters' in Giran to provide all the crafts a server needs. Plus a large number of players have power leveled some warsmith alts, and pull them out when they just need a thing or two crafted. (Or if you shout in Giran looking for one!) For crushing, it's often faster to just sell a whole item although there are plenty of alts who will trade you the items value in crystals for the item + a fee/percent.

This takes us to the Warmith's second set of 'skills', Golems. No matter which one your using, they are one and all expensive to run. The 'siege' useage Golems being obscenely expense, their cost can run in the Millions of adena *per minute*. And for the most part, they are unnecessary. The vast majority of clans would rather nuke, shoot and bash the castle doors down in about the same time for a fraction of the cost for a single golem.

Thus, many clans don't have much more than a warsmith or two for crafters (those often being alts or chars specifically for the purpose) and those without are hardly bothered by the lack. And when it comes to Bounty hunters, their only real 'sweet spot' as of this time is certain A grade armor spoils...and everything else is a waste of BH levels due to the Luxury shop, Mammon, Quests and the gimp spoil tables.

Remember: Friends don't let Friends play Dwarves as mains!

(Just play with them as alts like the rest of us. >_<)

good post
im one of the highest lvl dwarves you will find trolling these boards (crafter) and i can not in good conscience let a new player chose a dwarf
if you want to play an alt you can choose a scavenger -> BH dwarf as those guys do make some cash at lower lvls that can help you out, just dont get it into your head that it would be a good move to play the thing as your main

if you want a good choice for a melee class go orc destroyer, they have 90% of the same skills as both dwarves plus some skills which are actually useful
Well here is my 2 cents about dwarfs i play a WS (crafter) she is 66 atm. Dwarf is a good and bearable class if you have a boxed SE or a friend who is a live healer. I say SE because of VR and poling its quick to level if its only 2 of you.

Another bonus is how much you can carry and crafting. As long as you have mats for your soul shot you dont really ever have to go back to town like all other classes do.

Now for the bad we suck with out a healer/buffer in 1v1 mobs. Suck in pvp. And very limited skills. Also the summon sucks and not really needed in sieges.

Well if none of this bothers you then go play a dwarf. there arnt to many of us that are "live" players expecially at high lvls. Good Luck...
I play a dwarf as my main. But I am a glutton for punishment. It takes a special kind of person to play one as their main. They are slow to lvl, their class change quests are insanely boring and depending on your server it is impossible to find a group willling to party with you. Doing Raid Bosses is one thing I have given up on my dwarves. :( All that being said, I suggest your friend make a dwarf and lvl it up to just below first class change and see how he likes it. You have 7 character slots per server and it takes 7 days to delete one.

Which server did you chose?

Welcome to L2 and good luck!
if your friend is interested in dwarves because of their hardy nature (and not the crafting aspect) then look at Orc Destroyer or Tyrant instead - DD and hardy
for the sake of your friend who is shopping for a race, DO NOT let them play dwarf. The other races are so much more fun to play- dwarves just do not get the skills that make this game fun to play, in my opinion. I was foolish enough to raise a Warsmith to lvl 59, all along hoping it got better- it doesn't. Please trust me on this.
Let me give you a glimpse in the future:
Option 1. you made a BH and you need parties to exp. Parties will want you for your spoils, that means that you'll play with sharing spoils. Not much money coming your way.
Option 2. you made a warsmith. Worse. Parties have no use of you since your damage output is very low. They would rather have any other class in your place. Of course you can take your golem out and deal some damage, but that redces your exp gains and money.

There is of course the lonely way. You play your character slowly, no buffbots and independant of parties (occasionaly of course you will find some). You grind 5 minutes and sit for 10. This road takes too long to travel and most people are not willing to walk it.
hey Jarren I see you picked Gustin - I have just rolled an Orc Shamen (well I say just - he is 22 now) as an academy toon. PM JakShadow when your ingame if you need any help etc..
