Hi everyone! I recently bought Lineage 2 after seeing a pip for it on NCsoft (Been playin City of Heros/Vills for almost a year now) and thought I would pick it up and give it a whirl. First thing I noticed (obviously) is that the movement is much different from what I'm used to. Along those lines I noticed the movement seems to be much slower and more tedious then I'm used to, it creates a more epic, "Tactics" feel no? Anyway I like change and up to lv 8 so far seem to be having fun. Last night I jumped on the forum and tried to collect some info to help me in my newb journey. My Lord this game is COMPLEX, and I'm not a dummy...(City of H/V and WoW were both very basic and straight forward and I have done quite a bit of gaming in the last year)...I've played other games and not had porblems or felt out leagued. What I have noticed is that I am not going to get anywhere in this PVP centric game without finding a good clan/alliance, and some newb friendly peeps to help me out a bit and pull me into their group. I have a lv8 darkE fighter on Gustin and havent really seen more then a few people on in the last few days. Here is kinda what I had hoped by posting. I dont care what server I play on I just want to get into the game deeper and start picking up on it. I am asking anybody who is currently ACTIVE and recruiting for their clan to take a NEWB under their wing. I will play any server. I will play any class (would like to start with a fighter type till i pick up the game better and learn the spells/skills and such so I know how to be effective.) I am 26 so I dont bring teenage drama. I know how to use vent/TS so I can chat and be in co-op. I am in Seattle, WA and game mostly weeknights between 7 pm PST - 2 am PST, usually play a bunch either Sat OR Sun. I really wanna get into the PVP madness of this game as I spent time playing both WOW and City and have found the PVP to be horrendously inept. K done...thanks guys and gals and...PLEEZ HALP MEH!
three things to ask you:

what types of classes did you play in those other games ? reason i ask is, archers and knight classes do better in this game than the "unique" class types. Tyrants for example are a "unique" class to this game. if youre looking to learn about the game in the fastest time possible and begin your pvp as you did similar to your other games, you will want something traditional. this will familiarise you with three things; your buff system, your gear system, and your weapon system. when you have learned this about your traditional classes, the complex unique classes are easier to become more familar to.

what kind of personality do you bring to your PC? do you like to immerse yourself in the game and just grind out levels, or do you create a background for yourself and learn the background of the game in the process? if all you want is pvp, you might be looking at merely one facet of an otherwise rich game.

how do you cope with loosing exp? pvp can become very meddlesome and difficult business if your group isnt properly set up. the only way to guarantee success in this game is to spy in your enemy. otherwise, you go in bllind and come out maimed.

TY for the indepth questions Spudnik! I definitely agree with starting out as a traditional character as opposed to a hybrid/multitasker...I could tell some of the classes were going to be very intricate. I picked DE fighter and figured to start moving towards Palus, Abyss, or Archer...not sure yet though. Honestly I would like to play a toon with damage as primary and either buff or debuff secondary,(even though I am sure everyone in the game already has a "deathdealer" and they aren't in high demand now) you know start with the basics until I learn the actual gameplay. In City I preffered hybrids ie, Defenders, they were team support primary with a ranged attack secondary or Scrappers the main melee build. In WoW I liked Warlocks and Rogues. As for the personality I bring I would consider myself pretty immersive. I like to think of characters as an extension from the gamer. In City of Hero all my toons had backgrounds and MO's. Honestly I played more "concept" then hardcore FoTM builds. I can tell this game takes alot of dedication and am very excited about the pvp aspect (but excited as well about the content, storylines, visuals etc.) I want to learn it all, not just grind toons and pvp. I am looking mostly forward to the pvp, but cannot believe the awesomeness of eventually doing sieges and exploring the world itself. As for losing XP...Meh...I mean it sucks bad to fall backwards but it is only a game. While I take myself very seriously in RL and as a gamer, I know my boundaries. I will never grief or be too heated over losing. I play to win but I play to have fun to. Fun comes first. As a competitive person, when the fun is gone the competiton doesnt matter I guess. I have heard people cry in Ventrilo before and heard stories of game stuff becoming RL stuff...Bah Humbug on that. I just wanna find a good group of peeps who can help me learn and excell at the game. If I'm not going to be good I'm going to go home. So yes I have come to be competitive and take the game seriously, but I am still here to relax after work and have FUN!

P.S. I also like the fact that Spudnik pointed out that the pvp in this game is alot more immersive then...*run and find target, utterly destroy target, rinse and repeat* I absolutely love the more tactically intrinsic nature of the way this game plays...
Would you call yourself a roleplayer?

Not neccesarily, I mean I give an extreme amount of thought into my characters as I play them but in City/WoW, I never really chatted in a character's "tone of voice" or mentality. I wouldn't be opposed to becoming more RP just dont have much experience with it. The SG/Guilds I was in for the other games nobody really RP'd. However, my main in City was called Poison Tree Frog and looked very much as such. He usually chatted with a certain spring in his voice and an occaisional *Ribbit*
i can suggest two TYPES of classes for you if you need class advice. following the profile you filled out by answering the 3 questions, i can suggest you to become a Dagger wielding class such as AbyssWalker, PlainsWalker, or TreasureHunter. for the record, the "debuff/dathdealer" of the three of the aforementioned classes is the Abysswalker. there are in depth quest guides to dagger classes, but what you will need to know most of al is to remember that your PVP uberness only begins at level 56. seems like a big hike to become your peak right? sad but true.

the second class i can suggest to you to try out as a "debuffer" primarily is the Phantom Summoner. now this may not sit well with you if you really dont play HARD and OFTEN. this particular class is very hard to level quickly as your "summoned" deathdealer takes away a % of the exp per mob you kill and consumes some expensive items to keep alive. this class is very costly to play effectively as it also requires 2 primary weapons and consumables out the wazoo.

the capability though, is BEYOND INCREDIBLE.

i do think you would have a lot of fun as an Abysswalker even before level 56. your personality meshes with the class like you wouldnt believe.

i suggest reading the Player Guides forum for some levelling, gear, and moneymaking suggestions to get into the best setup possible at the earliest time.

pay particular attention to the moneymaking guides. money in this game is both hard to come by and the lifeblood of effective combat. what you wear is paramount to how well you perform.
i love new players! :) what server did you choose? if you already said it in your life story up there then sorry lol

I made my first on Gustin, but would be willing to re-roll if someone suggests a good clan or invites me to another server (only lv8)...I got a cpl PM offers earlier so i will logg in when I get home, respond, and see what happens. Maybe I end up staying on Gustin, maybe not...

TY again Spudnik for all the wonderful info, and thanks to everyone else for PM's and thoughts.
I think I am definitely going to move towards Abyss, the skills and play style are very much what I am looking for(awesome suggestion Spudnik!)

Very much like Energy/Nin stalkers in CoV. We get no real stealth here, but some very cool 'tricks' to play with. They've done a very good job with making you feel powerful with the above mentioned sets. There's always a new skill around the corner to look forward to. You level fast with daggers here too, which helps if you play only on weekends. Nice toons to manor with as well (make adena).

Similar to the Necro MM in CoV. Though you are much more engaged with your enemy with this set. You fight alongside your summon. Initially, you nuke (blast) to I think level 44. Spud knows much more about this set than I could ever explain here. Looks very cool.

Its an incredibly fun class and I agree.

I've played CoH/CoV for a few years now, just recently breaking away clean from it. L2 is challenging, lots to do and see and always the element of 'someone could run by right now and kick my [censored]'. :) Where CoH brings out the best in people, L2 seems to bring out the worst. With that said, I've let my subs to CoH and CoV go this month because like you, I require a more challenging game.

You undoubtedly will find a nice clan to join and build a solid friends list. Just takes a lil time.

TY for the COH/V references, it really helps give me a solid idea of what the playstyle is like. City is the awesmoest game I have ever played but it is cakewalk and the PVP is sorely unbalanced(Im sure you know). I agree from what I have read and seen of Lineage compared to City and this game definitely has less room for finding help and support due to the competitive nature of the gameplay.
TY again and keep em comin!
welcome to l2, if you hadn't already started on Gustin server i would have invited you to join my young clan with 5 new players we just picked up yesterday on kain. I played COH / COV a good bit myself i have a 50 my favorite being blaster(champion server: Gatling, go figure i play a tank class, but on COH i am a blaster)

your best bet is to train and solo yourself to around level 15-20 then you will begin meeting people, the starter towns are a bit.. on the dead side as most of the players are in the high end of the game, and also dont begin in a common centralized area like COH (atlas park / galaxy) thats all the advice i can really think of giving, i dont know much about people on gustin.
