Depends on which weapon you are trying to upgrade. A Flamberge for example will NOT be eligable to upgrade because there is (was) no 1148 crystal 2H Sword available. In the case of some of the newer weapons, they are not linked properly in all upgrade/exchange cases due to coding issues/errors.
Thus, your best bet is to simply do an even exchange to another weapon and try to upgrade that one. Repeat with each weapon until one (or none) works.
NOTE: Weapons with a SA or Augment (Interlude/PTS only atm) cannot be upgraded or exchanged. You need to remove those before Mammon will 'see' the weapon. Also enchants are saved on exchanges, but lost on upgrades.
I needed a soulfire dirk so I had to upgrade from the lux shop item. Maybe your weapon has an SA? If it does not have an SA then swap it for another 916 weapon and upgrade that.
