I have a hatchling, a wolf and a baby buffalo. I haven't been playing with any of them lately.
The hatchling because I dropped his weapon shortly before the patch where you don't drop stuff. When I got back to the local the weapon was gone. Since then my money priorities have been gone to other things. I will buy a new weapon one of those days though. Specially because the weapon was borrowed from my friend. :(
The wolf I was using mostly as a way for my Shillien Oracle to catch up in XP to my Palus Knight while leveling both. Once that was acomplished the wolf went back to the warehouse. What surprised me was how much money he costed me in terms of beast soulshots. Later on I might give him to one of my alts to serve as a leveling partner.
The Baby Buffalo is just a question of finding the patience to level him and the right character to do it. Due to some unfortunate accidents he deleveled to level 24. Since then I haven't been able to level him back to level 25. One day I will acomplish that and level him like there was no tomorrow.
With all of my alts I have been running thru the academy for rep points, my wolfs have gotten into their mid 30's now. Great for fun, break up the grind and in the future, NcSoft may change the field so these become as good as another weapon in the DOT equation.
Got the bird too, park in the catacomb hall when doing pole parties. Goonie bird is on my main, just need to find a safe place to level it up.
I got a wind and star hatch, wind Stryder lvl 55 ( took me ages ) 3 wolfs lvl 56, 32, 31 and cougar lvl 61.
The lvl 56 wolf i use on my Paladin while the other 2 are for manor or support other alts.
The windstryder is mostly mount anymore.
The cougar i use on my SH for mana regen via BtM.
A clanmember also got a lvl 67 Star stryder he often uses for solo play.
You are correct. Baby Pets can only heal. Wolves have no skills. Wind and Star hatchling have only combat related skills. And Twilight hatchling has no skill.
I would say which summons give MP but I forgot their names so I will leave it to the summoners specialists.
Wow level 80 is impressive. Do you get a great deal of healing from that?
Thanks. I forget how much it heals. It's been awhile since I had it out and I don't want to sell it since it has my name. I'll break it out tonight and I'll post results.
I got a wolf, cougar, and twilight hatchling. The wolf is 42, cougar 80, and hatch hrm forgot. I still go out with the wolf.

Also on a side note to anyone, am I correct in that none of the pets can give MP only certain summons do that?
Go to beast farm and get a trained pet with mystc type characters some will restore MP instead of HP.
As for the Cougar lvl 80 is not really hard to do one one get a mage in a save spot with no agros and keep him running after you. They also seem to lvl faster the more lvl he got.
My canmate made a lvl 80 on his sh from lvl 56 - lvl 58.
The level 80 one does like 100 hp. I love it since i pole in cats most of the time. like having a constant heal pot going. think i've leveled like 5 to level 80.
i got a wind hatcling (but i can't level it right now... all my money efforts are on gettin A grade...) and star hatcling with no name i'm planning to sell... to feed the other one :P
I got a dusk strider, cause supposedly they're fast, which makes up for their lack of skills...and they are..they're super fast!
Until you actually mount it. What a waste. Good thing horses don't suddenly slow to human running speed when you mount them, or the wild west might have had a whole different history.
I have a wolf, but hardly ever use it because it goes through so much food. A useful skill for a wolf would be hunting, it coud get food from the mobs it kills.

Yes that would certainly be good.
Actually, I love L II, but as i have had some looks at WoW as well I must say the pet system in WoW is far more realistic then it is in L II.
You have to be atleast the same lvl as the strider for the speed to be good. Otherwise you go slower than snails.
At 55 my dusk strider (55) ran at whatever *my* speed was, when mounted. if I had 158 run speed, taht's what my strider had. When I wasn't riding him, he had close to 180.
