As the post says, does anyone know of a new or upcomming MMORPG that has the goods of L2 (graphics, skill/animations, open pvp) without the bads (overpriced economy, no "real" gear quests/ weak reward quests, and not as important, but 1 or 2 classes tearing up everything else)?
I feel it's time for a different game, but not too different if you know what i mean... any suggestions of games are appreciated.
Last Chaos (lost chaos?) it's open beta atm apparently its very similar to l2
Last Chaos is a free game as far as I know, with them just making money from selling items in an item store. I've played it a little during breaks from L2, and although I'm still only low level I've not seen anything too special about it. Just another grind game so far for me :). The equipment does seem to be easier to get though, but as I said I'm still low level (18 or so).
You could also maybe take a look at Archlord, or Rappelz (think the PvP isn't so "open" in these). Not really sure any of them are what you're looking for though.
Rappelz has a pretty good pvp system, PK someone and you gather 'wrath' which hurts your stats. Plus it has PvE and PvP servers so you can choose open pvp or the wrath system.
Thanks all for the suggestions, I've been checking out the games mentioned... It's really hard to be satisfied with a game once you have been "lineage(ized)".
Warhammer seems to be a good game once it comes out.. but more than likely ill be waiting for Lineage 3 like everyone else.
Rappelz isnt bad, actually. It's definitely got some improvements over L2, but you can see where they took their inspirations from.
Last Chaos is.... kinda odd. There's not enough info provided in the game, other than quests, to tell you what to do next, so you end up grinding, for lack of anything else to do, before stumbling on another quest NPC.
To true. RF is one of those games that was a pretty good concept. But didnt quite work out. Good graphics. Boring gameplay. Umm Granado Espada I think should be going live soon if it hasnt already. Another great concept. But terrible game play. Let me explain that a bit. You have what they call a "family". Your family can have a good number of toons in it. Dont know that exact number right off. But you can play with up to 3 members of your family at a time. All controlled by you. Now this was a good thing back in the old final fantasy type games. Turn based combat worked great with a 3 person team. But when you put that into real time it became a bit to difficult for me to play. You control your players with rows on the keyboard. q-y controls player 1. a-g controls players 2. and so on. I think it was a great concept for a game. Not so much for an mmo though. You have a team of 3 at all times it didnt seem to me that you would need to find groups for much of anything.hmm what next? Vanguard. Ugly game. Then sony had to get in on that action to. Need I say more? I think this will be a bad year for mmo's as nothing to great will be coming out. I personally am excited about Aion. Also I have been keep ing my eye on a game called All point bulletin. This will be a fun mmo. It is made by a group of people that come from the Grand theft auto series and will be basically the same idea as GTA but in the form of an mmo. I dont know about the rest of you. But THAT sounds like a good time. All point bulletin is going to be around the beginning of 08 last I read. Sadly this is a slow time for mmo's unless your easily ammused. Then there is still tons of games to play.So I guess what I really meant to say in all this is....Everything sucks right now. Try to be patient and wait for something good to come out. Thats what Im doing. NC get on the ball with Aion. Were patiently awaiting its release. ;)

So true...
As a matter of fact, when i had all of my Vista/Lineage problems i couldnt play this game for a few weeks, and now that i havent... well, i dont really feel the spark anymore... all of my technical issues have been resolved, so i could be playing the game as much as i want (even right now), but... i dont know, i dont even feel the need to log in any more...
I think i really need some "RP motivation" to play, and, well, it's really the weak point of L2...
So i guess i understand the OP's point of view, as i was also looking for some other game to play. But L2 is so great in so many aspects that it's hard to enjoy another one afterwards !
I tried Lord Of The Ring Online, it seems very cool, very quest-oriented but the graphics are not so cool, i tried Vanguard, it seems very RP-oriented but the graphics suck, i tried Archlord but i didnt find anything interesting to do after a couple of days, Rapelz and Last Chaos are just free-to-play Lineage-wanabe with lesser graphics, so... yeah, i'm kinda lost too...
Also, i'd like a change from the Fantasy setting with which i'm a bit fed up, so i might just end up playing City Of Villains again ! Or even Star Wars Galaxies, that's how desesperate i am
End of 2007 will be great, with Aion, Conan, Warhammer, but until then...
I considered trying city of villians. But I figure its kinda an old game now to. So not much point in starting now. Aion is definetly what Im waiting for. But your right about needing a change from the fantasy setting. Thats why I mentioned All points bulletin. Allthough I dont know how much roleplaying you could get done with that. :p Im sure any good role player could come up with something though. Is Aion for sure going to come out in the end of 07?
If I go super casual gamer then I'll do the free thing that way I don't feel like I have to login to get something out of my monthly fees. Also I won't have to urge to compete with the boatses and the yachtses (yes the -es ending added intentionally).
How do the free games operate anyway? I know some of them have the online item shops to make some money. They have to make money somehow to run the servers dont they?
The controls for GE are easy enough that the problem is actually the hyperspawn, not the fact that you are controlling three toons (because you are controlling them as a unit).
It's certainly a matter of taste, but if it's too fast for you, I don't think saying 'it's bad' is the right reaction.
Saying its bad is a matter of opinion. Theres alot of Wow bashing that goes on in these forums. There are alot more people that say its a good game. Should we go through and ask everyone to clean up ther wow posts?
I suppose the biggest problem for me, and many others, is that once you have played L2, you expect alot from an MMO.
L2 in the younger days, you have to admit, was basically perfect even though it lacked the quests needed to survive. But do to the nature of every human, the need to be better than everyone else kinda takes the glamor off.
I want a diff game than L2, thats for sure, but I also want to be a part of it when its in the early stages... as i said before, there may not be a game to fit this description until L3, sadly.
You do of course expect alot. But what exactly do we mean by alot? graphics are amazing. I think there will be no argument to that from anyone. If by alot you mean grind...well theres a whole lot of grind. If you mean pointless quest...Hey we got tons of them to. L2 is a great game. But at the same time..extremely boring. Sadly our game has been destroyed to. I miss the good old days where I used a hammer that I got from a level 10 quest till I was level 30. No one had good gear and no one really cared. We all had fun. I highly encourage you to try out aion when it comes out. Its another NC game so we know it will look amazing. The truth is nothing right now is as good. I only mean in graphics. I dont know how the gameplay is for everything. Graphics is the most important part in the game to get someone hooked. Just wait. Good games are coming soon!
(The views expressed above are personal opinion and should not be taken as fact.)

Yes, the operators sell something to make money to run the servers. And since it is free then I'm not obliged to buy anything. If they say I have to buy/donate to keep playing then it is not free.
TBH I dont give a **** about graphics..I hardly run max graphics with a gig of room..though I'm mostly boxing and it slows it down..but I just want a game like lineage2 but with seperate skills => fishing, wooductting, farming, making potions, cooking ect. Someone once refered me to www.runescape.com (http://www.runescape.com) and..waste of time..maybe its the fact of free games mentality that you can steal and get away..unlike in l2 I feel (relativly) safe to loan an item away, plus, 200k people online at all times doesn't seem alot for having 130 servers =/

lol well thanks for that explanation of free. :p I just wasnt sure if all free games used the item shop set up or if there were other ways they make money. You see I remember back in the day of dial up internet Kmart had an isp.(lol) It was free. But it was paid for with advertisements. This was back when I was about 15. I didnt want to spend money on internet so having the ads was worth it for me.I was just wondering if maybe some games have pop up ads in them or something to help pay for them...lol.
