Hey everyone, ive recently made a new orcish mystic and plan on taking him up to warcryer eventually. Ive done alot of reading on many different forums and sites that talk at length about lineage 2, looking for warcryer stuff in particular, and while ive found many helpful guides, ive found nothing that speaks at length about the benefits of light armor for the class.
Now, I was figuring on making this character a mostly melee one with a reliance on soulcry, but i find that soulcry drains mana fairly quickly and thus, i made the connection between the light armor mastery that gives added mp regen and the skill i want to base my build around.
This is what I was thinking for a build. Very reliant on physical attacks, but seeing as you run dry on MP real fast with soulcry running permanently, the mp regen of light armor helps negate that effect while still providing decent defense. Light armor mastery also increases spell casting speed, p.def and attack speed, which isnt too bad I think, but ive no experience playing the character at high levels as yet so im wondering if someone with more experience could help me with some advice regarding that.
Is light armor a feasable type for mostly soloing/small groups or will I absolutely need to go for heavy armor to get by? Also wondering what type of weapon I should be using, I was thinking of using fist type weapons since they have a bonus to accuracy and missing sucks.
Any help you guys could give me would be appreciated :) thanks in advance!
I did not use Soul Cry past maybe level 10. You are right, it just eats too much mana. And as Tokara said, you will always want to reserve some MP for drains - the drain and sleep will save your rear over and over and over when you are soloing.
Edit: I finally noticed the entirety of Tokara's post, so I am deleting most of my reply.
Use a 1hb and shield over the fists. Your stun is very useful, and as its your one and only special attack, and an overhit to boot its worth firing up. D grade I got by just fine with a Tabar, then a club of nature with acumen (tradable through mammon, exact same stats as a homonculus but a blunt weapon...looks like a roach on a stick though) for C grade. B grade as a wc you're probably better off with a kris with focus and a mana up crystal staff for groups.
Armor wise as its been said light armor works just fine straight through. On my overlord I vouched to take heavy through D grade with my clan oath armor just for the purpose of soloing quickly through that armor grade. Having said that though I was also using clan hall buffs instead of my own, so my manapool wasn't as taxed to buff myself as one might be without clanhall support. Anyway, on the subject of light armor, its a fine mix for a wc/ol to use, as it should give you enough mana to fully buff yourself with a little left over to start fighting. B grade in particular I really liked blue wolf light and would highly recommend it for the soloist orc caster.
<edit> On the soulcry thing, using it constantly is not the way to go. Even with the light armor masteries giving mp regen its impossible to have that toggle on and have it even out mp wise. I would look at your wc more as a meleer with a heavy hp drain, best in the game infact. Instead of burning that mana on somewhat harder hits and having nothing to heal yourself with just go straight melee until your hp falls to about 35-40%, tag'em with the hp drain and keep going at full health.
No armor set can help you keep soulcry on, all the time. So you need to use it partialy taking advantage of your other skills too. Yor kill speed and down time depend on:
a) the mobs you attack (level, resistanes, herbs, etc)
b) your setup
c) how efficient you use your skills.
Try to find a balance between these 3 so you can maximize kill speed and minimize downtime.
Im a 75 warcryer and let me tell you what i used on my way getting to this lvl
1-20 Heavy Armor and Top NG blunt
20-40 Top D Heavy and Top D blunt
40-52 Plated Leather and DarkScreamer (focus)
52-65 Dual SLS and Blue Wolf Light**
65-75 Elysian Axe (health) Flaming Dragon Skull (acumen (pvp wep)) and Majestic Robes full unsealed
**Blue Wolf Light is the best armor you can pick for b grade, it has the pdef u need and you can squeeze out all the buffs you need and as a ight armor you still get the +15% casting speed. I could have used this armor forever, but i had to get A grade cause it looks so cool :P
Bowzer how was your down time? Was the Focus on the dagger enough not to miss all the time? Currently, I'm at 40 using C duals and I miss a lot, with that and Brig armor I get hurt bad. I was just wondering if going Light would make a difference so I could actually cast and regen some mana back.
FYI, I used a Yaksa for maybe 40 and part of 41 on my WC. Then I switched to duals, and they worked great. I was a level 58 before I got a dagger. I think if you hang in their a bit, the duals should; work fine. But, you will need to get into C grade armor as soon as you can. It might be good to hunt greens or almost greens until you can get C grade armor. Also, I believe at 44 you finally get VR 1, which will help a lot.
I never tried Light Armor myself. But for C grade, I think it depends on how much you are soloing. If you are soloing a lot, I would recommend Heavy. Your buffs just aren't that good in C grade, and you will be mostly meleeing, so the added protection of the Heavy seems like a good idea to me. If you are mostly grouping, I could see Light Armor being a viable choice, as you shouldn't be taking aggro most of the time, and you will have more MP.
Beyond C grade is a different story. Somewhere in high 50s or 60s, you should be assuming the role of primary buffer for parties, and you will want all the mana you can get (robes).
