Well as well all know, there are 2 new games that will be very "interesting" or even 3 actually coming out into beta soon and coming out within the next 3-6 months onto the MMORPG.
I have been playing l2 since closed beta, tryed a number of games but never really committed because i found l2 still fun. It is no longer fun, the amount of people on many of the servers (3 through 6?) has had a severe downturn. Kain is about to become carebear for the FIRST time in its history, and this is seriously an issue.
This is advise and a plee from a long time player. Introduce something, anything, in the next 3 months before these games come out, Implrement Server transfers
Yes u have heard this a hundred times, and obviously if u have heard it, then its something we want, the more u hear i, finally u guys might try and implement it!
Server transfers won't help the issue. You claim that allowing players to move from one server to another will help the servers with a low population, but all it does is create an issue.
What we need to talk about is the current state of player population. We say it's low, NC says it's fine. We need to discuss this in more detail with them.
"Carebear" refers to all actions and PvP that are not 9v1 gank then BSoE. (Usually lower than you.)
Basically, his server is no longer like quake deathmatches where you kill people 20 levels lower than you all night and congratulate youself on how "leet" you are.
This is upsetting for the pre-teen crowd and especially for the ADD generation.
To OP, your plea is answered! Read the PTS patch notes for this expansion which is coming out in two weeks. There is a LOT of neat new stuff listed, and the expansion will have more than that.
Hopefully no server transfers ever, though. Do you know the old saying, "Where ever you go, there you are?" It means you would take your discontent with you to your new server. So the solution is to learn to be happy where you are since the key to happiness is internal and not to look for external changes in circumstances to make you happy ...it won't work.
Sure you can. But are you prepared to give up 2 years++ work on your toons/gear?
Sever merge would be very nice. I dont mind to lose a castle/clanhall/clanlevel. But starting all over on a new toon/gear? hmmm dont think so. I rather call it Game Over by then for me when my server runs dead and there is no way of toon transfer server merge.
I would say merging the servers into three more powerful servers (the NA servers anyway, Teon and Franz seem to be doing fine.) would be interesting. The game is dropping off real subscriptions. I don't see anything earth shaking in Interlude either. Nothing really exciting, you can't even siege the fortresses. :(
In a massive pvp game, without the massiveness there really begins to be no pvp, no parties, not fun.
Hopefully something will be done. This game really has to update it's concept from that of 3 years ago. Things have changed in L2, wouldn't always say for the better, but the basic core is still there, and now with the advancement of MMOs this game either has to be advanced or die. I am pretty sure NCsoft sees this, or at least I hope they do, otherwise they are destined to loose in the gaming industry. They have had good luck with Lineage, and pretty good luck with Lineage II, along with Guildwars, but I think L2 still has the most potential out of all of it. Sometimes it feels like I am just playing an 'outline' of a game that has no core to it...like a super advanced chat menu where I can mindlessly and repetitively kill mobs in hope that one day I will have fun. Something is not right about that.

So tell me NForcR.....
Lets say you lose castle/ clan hall/ clan level/ clan name. Was it still worth it to you?

QFT, but i would say prob a few more than 3 (thats if you mean franz, teon and 1 other with everything, prob misunderstood but yeah lol) just merge some of the low pop servers together so could have like teon, franz, bartz and then a couple other ones where 2 or 3 servers merged together based on the population of each so they would not be uber full but have a lot of ppl in them to take more of an advantage of some of the pvp content in the game.
Yeah, merge the 8 NA servers into 3 (maybe 4) servers. Thats what I meant. I think the two Euro servers are probally populated just fine. For example merge bartz with a server of low - medium population. And so on.
Of course these new servers should be upgraded to handle a larger mass of people. So even with the merge all the servers won't constantly be on Heavy and there won't be constant lag.
There has to be a balance where hunting areas are not too over populated but we want them to be populated enough so that there will be some fights over hunting spots once and a while, but not to make it impossible for someone to hunt somewhere. Where people can form multiple large clans instead of just one or two that run the whole server. Each server I think could go for a good dose of an extra 1000 active players on each server.
Don't forget that we had server technical upbrades in (was it) C4 which allows what used to be a 'Server Full' population now to register as a 'Light' population, so there are lots of people and you are not seeing them..perhaps they are in the higher areas like Pagans and Four Sepulchers? Ours is a HUGE world and we have players on 24 hours a day and seven days a week....so just because YOU don't see them doesn't mean there is a problem.
Wait you say that Kain is going down the tubes because you imply that it has a low population count therefore its going carebear.
Now lets examine this. Kain is known to be the hardcore PvP server...thats its reputation. People are dumping it and not going toward it because of this reputation.
Therefore one could infer that the #1 priority which used to be PvP for this game, isn't anymore.
Now, NCSOFT needs to put in MORE PvE content. That WILL save this game.
As for merging servers, NO.
If they absolutely have to because they NEED to then sure, but at this point you DON'T need to. There is no evidence that subscription numbers are dropping. Just heresay about what YOU, 1 person i the game is observing. I see a lot of new people recently myself...does that mean the subscription numbers are increasing? NO.
I'm sure if its needed NCSOFT will merge servers but until then, you want to hop onto my server? Start a new toon on it. You CHOSE the server you wanted when you started. Live with it.
What is truly needed for this game is not merging, its advertisements in which NC have always as i remember been lacking.
The reason NCSOFT doesn't advertise is because they have nothing attractive to advertise. You think someone will come to a game because they saw a video of a 9 peeps ganking 1?

Actually I bet free YouTube advertisement by Gamplay and Lineage 2 CGI videos has done wonders to get the word our there about Lineage 2 as a game.
In fact, I can honestly say its pretty much the only real form of advertising that has been done for this game, and it wasn't even paid for by NCSOFT! Its all user content and word of mouth...
I think the best advertising push they ever did was making that music video with the killers. Too bad it wasn't really in the mainstream and I wonder if there were even any metrics in place to see how many people it actually attracted.
What actually attracted me to Lineage 2, other than a friend saying I should play it, was the L2 box. The old ones showed a castle inside the flap, with tons of people attacking and guards climbing ladders to the top... boy was that a farse!
Ah, yes the better example would be some advertising.
Well I do hunt in high level places and I just do see it. I am not saying that I don't ever see anyone, but I don't see lots. Which is ok, this doesn't bother me, what does is that I don't see as much people as I use to at seiges, or multiple large clans, maybe two or three, because there isn't enough players to go around.
When I jump on my level 40ish sub and go to catacombs I don't see "people" either...
My friend just started playing, level 8 elf, and he keeps asking me, "are you sure ppl still play this game?"
This alone is proof enough. Granted more than anything we need NEW blood to be coming into L2. We need at least to have 5-10 noobs running somewhere around in nooblet towns so that they can play together. For servers that cater to North America and Europe and some other random places around the world, we shouldn't have the problem of getting about 30 new players every 2-3 days per server. I mean, that is actually a small % compaired to the geographic region that these servers service...
I know this isn't a new game! But how do we plan on keeping new players when for the first few weeks they don't see a living soul.
All this is true and I mention it on another tread, that if NC advertise the game for like 3 months on different Magazines and game related sites there will have a lot of new players running around and they can do some sieges, epic bosses and AOE party videos and put then on different game related sites believe me I got some friends that cant believe that I smack over 10 mobs at the same time with my noob destroyer simple stuff like that will bring more people to the game, because guess what if you some good marketing you can sell anything or how do you thing that a boring game as WoW has so many players imagine what will do a great game like Lineage 2
How many of those were Unique Subs? can i ask you that one, ive debated this how many times now on these forums. Sure their "Subs" are decently high, because the average kain player i know has 3-4 accounts, u know why? Cos no one wants to play those buffer classes or support bar a few!
About Kain, We have basicly just done from a 3 sided server 2 months ago to now a 1 sided server. 1 alliance controls giran/aden/rune/goddard, i need i say anymore? We get about 400 people on for sieges and they have a good 60-65% at least, and then the other 35-40% wouldnt help each other all "together" even if it was to save kain :P
Marketing is not the problem now. We are all 78/77/76/75. How long does it take to get a new char to that level, how many will stick through to it. The casural gamer dosn't have time to start again.
The Best idea would be for the server merges to occur. Now i feel the euro servers indeed are full, but hell 50% of our siege forces on kain are euros, so i dunno how that would work.
As you can see in this thread, the general idea is that we have a problem here people, we need to push it.
Oh and yes, kain is still hardcore pvp, but u can only do so much with a lower population
Numbers don't lie. It all comes down to numbers. If its increasing, no way in hell is NCSOFT gonna merge servers. Why would they when everything indicates the population is growing?
Why would NCSoft care if a new sub is a person's second account or a new player's first? The point is that population is _not_ decreasing, it's _increasing_, there's really no argument there. And as BlazerX said, if the numbers are going up, why would NCSoft merge servers?
Don't forget that we had server technical upbrades in (was it) C4 which allows what used to be a 'Server Full' population now to register as a 'Light' population, so there are lots of people and you are not seeing them..perhaps they are in the higher areas like Pagans and Four Sepulchers? Personally i dont see a problem as it is ^^ i see plenty of people and quite frankly more than i want to see, lol. It was jst a comment to the people that want server merges/transfer abilities. Merging is not an acceptable solution to do Before marketing has been done, possibly afterwards but merging/transferring set in as late as it is now will only prove that NC failed.
Someone said "market what? 9v1 ganks?" or something similar that leads to the same point, there's plenty other stuff to put in advertisements. Open your eyes :P

But is it increasing from [censored]? Are the numbers NCSoft which claim are a steady increase in growth attributed to [censored]. Because if it is... Then it's a fake number.

Regardless of where the increase comes from, it's still an increase, every sub still means another $15/month in NCSoft's pocket and an increased load on whatever server that sub is on. That being said, whether population increases due to a massive influx of fluffy bunnies or actual legitimate players that we get to interact with, it doesn't make sense to merge servers, at least not from NCSoft's perspective.
Also, an increase in RMT supply would only result from an increase in RMT demand, which originates from actual players.
Lets say you lose castle/ clan hall/ clan level/ clan name. Was it still worth it to you?
Yes, definetly.
The thing is when you have people you get to know that play on other servers, then there's no way besides cheating to go play with them (and thats why you don't see more complaints, many people simply buy/trade accounts then ebay to go to a new server).
Yes in the past 4-5 months they have had an increase in members, u know why? those free l2 account giveaways, i saw about 1000 b o t s on kain fishing and exping on dwarfs in dark elven forest and other places.
And yea im sure they are also counting when they do a server ban of 1000 accounts and instantly those ones pop back up.
They were trying to say there had been an increase in numbers playing when its not real players, we all know it.
I know there is better palce to post this but this is the most current thread... IF they ever do server transfers i very highly doubt you will be able to pick your server that would lead to exploits on many different lvls... i hope that if they ever do need to allow this due to population they would jus combine servers of thier choosing
you shouldnt be able to cheat on 1 server then hop to another where you have a good reputation
if you really hate your server man up and rerole or quit...
Lets say you lose castle/ clan hall/ clan level/ clan name. Was it still worth it to you?
yes i would give up all of that to be able to play the game the way it was meant to be played, with a larger player base. The NA servers just don't have enough people on most of the servers & it's killing the game.

you have to understand this game has been out for a while now & no amount of advertising is going to bring in the influx of people needed to keep the servers at a healthy population. Some of the servers are fine (bartz, teon, franz) but most of them are not & it needs to be addressed.
You know, I'm sick of hearing about how "l33t" Bartz is... Let's stop the ****** waving and just burn Bartz down, be done with the arguments, and get on with the game.

Hindemith is pretty well populated as well. We're normal during peak hours always. Our forums also have about 4 or 5 new toons saying hi each week...and those are just the ones on forums.
No transfers, players transferring freely allows nothing but a painful freeway for cheating...as opposed to the 2 lane highway atm. Drop castles at the end of a cycle (pre-announced), refund clan halls at max adena to CWH, competition ones have to be fought over every week anyways, and merge two light servers.
