Blunts suck. Go for a sword or Dual sword. Stun is a waste of MP and unless your hunting yellow/Reds the extra ACC of a blunt is less effective than the extra crits of other weapons.
A 'mage sword/blunt' can be useful for drains/DoT's but you pay for that with lower Patk in melee. (Homunkulus, etc.) Only bother with the 'mage blunt' if you party a lot and can't get the sword version or if you want to waste MP in pvp trying to stun people. (Blunt is sometime cheaper/easier to get)
107 Duals can get you from 20-40 fast, easy and cheap. Just buff, Melee and Drain when needed.
I'd currently avoid the old DoT/Sleep/Melee combo. Herbs make this the slowest way to level currently. Orc Mystic MP usage is insane even with out higher base MEN and MP.
Pre-40 you can probably get by with just a set of heavy/light armor, but after 40 you'll probably want a set of robes in addition to the same.
Also, weapon choices are more diverse after 40. Duals will do continue to do well, as do 'mage weapons'. But with higher level buffs (like ACC or Haste) a melee sword, dagger or 2H weapon can be useful as well.
PS - Go Warcryer. (Warcryers help other people....other people help Overlords...)
I used a blunt because I liked to stun. Mage blunts allow good land rate of spells and stun. Stun actually worked fairly well for me in PvP. It would be the only thing that landed sometimes. However, the physical damage stinks for blunts in general.
On my OL, I would DoT then melee. I also had a hatchling, so it went pretty good.
For an OL, if you don't have an alliance, you are pretty much useless. If you can get AoE groups that would be good tho. I recommend you seriously consider Warcryer.
ok, first of all wat is a DoT, and soo i should buy fighter weapons??? k thx, ill do a warcryer ^^
DoT = "Damage Over Time" aka any attack that doesn't do damage instantly but over a period of time.
Poison is an example of a DoT spell. All Orc Mystics get 3 DoT skills. The Warcryers are single-target ranged spells. An Overlords are PBAOE (Point blank Area of effect). The 'range' of a PBAOE is roughly as far as your character is 'tall' and then a little extra if mobs are close together, so that the effect 'spreads'.
As a Mystic all your skills are single target, as a Shaman you get a few PBAOE skills (To try out) and then at L40 the two types split completely so that WC = Single target ranged and OL = PBAOE.
1)Poison
Ranged - Venom
PBAOE - Seal of Poison
2)'Flame'
Ranged - Chill Flame, Frost Flame, Freezing Flame
PBAOE - Blaze Quake, Seal of Flame
3)'MP Drain'
Ranged - Aura Sink
PBAOE - Seal of Gloom
NOTE: All DoT skills are 'all or nothing'. Basically they either land or not. Both Mdef and specific resistances (Armor or Jewelry bonuses) can help resist 'landing' the skills. Once they land however they do their damage without regards to Mdef or other resistances. Also, SPS/BSPS *only* influences the land rate of DoT's. (Via Matk.) Damage does NOT increase when using SPS/BSPS on DoT's! This is different than a 'nuker' (w/direct damage spell) who gets an effective 2x damage increase from BSPS.
You can 'sleep' (Dreaming Spirit) mobs and a DoT will continue to do damage while the mob is slept. You cannot stack DoT effects of the same type, although you can stack DoT's of different types. (AKA you can Venom+Chill Flame, but you are not able to Venom+Venom, as this will have no additional effect...other than wasting your MP.)
You cannot sleep/DoT players in PVP (anymore). Using a DoT on a slept char will cause them to 'wake up' when they take damage from the DoT.
For these reasons, DoT spells are expensive (MP/Adena) and slow to level with compared to just melee+drain. (You will need robes to DoT/Sleep at the very least.)
man overlord sounds sooooo much better then warcryer lol,
wat is 107 duals?
You'd be dead wrong.
For both Orcs there are three main things you can do.
1)Buff
2)Cast an 'attack' Spell (Including DoT's and debuffs.)
3)Melee (Including Stun)
[For WC vs OL]
A) WC buffs work on all party members. OL buffs *only* work on Clan/Alliance members. (Although you do hit EVERYONE in range. 900 IIRC as of C5.) You are NOT getting any 'pickup' parties as an OL, simply because you will be unable to buff anyone but yourself.
B) WC's get plenty of very useful Melee buffs. (VR/Haste/DW/Focus) OL's get a small handful of very basic buffs and one that is of dubious value. (Berserk) Their last 'useful' buffs come only extremely late (L78) and for all the levels before that you can get their buffs either in a bottle or from other easier to level buffers who have other useful buffs.
#C)The vast majority of 'PvP' in L2 currently consists of archers and nukers attacking from 900+ range. Getting an OL in range to use a DoT or debuff (>50) is thus largely an exercise in suicide. Which is just as well, since the chance of you landing your spells is low to start with. (Lower than the single target versions of the same skills.) Also, archers and nukers usually box their buffpets, so you aren't needed for *them* to level. (And they can do just as well without you, with just bottled buffs.)
#D)OL buffs are crap for melee, but you have no real 'nukes' and your PBAOE's take too much MP to be useful in 'normal melee' leveling. Your 'helpful' but not *necessary* for any other sort of AOE groups.
#E)Stun fails to land a significant portion of the time...and breaks within an average of 2 hits most of the time it does land.
Oh, and 107 Duals is just shorthand for the highest level of D grade duals. Which not incidentally have 107 Patk. There are more than one 'pairs' of swords who have this exact same patk, thus they are simply referred to by their patk instead of their component swords. eg Crimson Sword * Bastard Sword versus Artisan's Sword * Elven Sword, both have 107 patk but are made from entirely different swords.
For weapon choice realy depends on the parties you get- If have a warrior/marauder/dwarf friend who do pole parties get mage weapon(blunt preferably) and robe you are very usefull for aoe.
If the party's you've got are single target meele(archers daggers e.t.c) then get some duals(crit is soooo good) and have a ng blunt and a macro(equip blunt-stun-equip duals to some damge)
If not having friends to party and do solo consider not playing orc mystic
Both chars are good and both are usefull for aoe parties(ol any aoe, wc for pole parties) Go OL if you have a good big ally. If not then prefer WC. It's much tougher to find party for ol although in big alliances they help them because they are invaluable in siegies an mass pvp. WC life is easier. Both can deal a lot of damage in pvp with the drain life and ol can raise more p.def with robe than wc with light(more p.def even from a tank)
PS - Go Warcryer. (Warcryers help other people....other people help Overlords...)
QFT I am a 76 dominator and it was nothing but leaching and begging for xp/having to make my own groups/getting nukers to level me up and sacrifice their xp.
If I could choose again I'd go WC...and at 3rd class (doomcryer) they get way better skills that Dominator to be honest...party summon...CoV AND party PoW....
But OL have so much debuff skills how can they not be good solo?
Because all the debuff skills are AOE. And that includes their 'MP Cost'. (AKA Waaaaaaaay to much.)
Simply put, your going to be out of MP if you even try to debuff every single mob you solo...and that is just with using one debuff skill out of all the ones you get. Even worse, none of the debuffs last very long (anymore) and their effects just aren't worth the MP. (Assuming that they land at all.) Even at the insane MP cost of Steal essense, THAT skill is still a better use of MP than casting a single seal in most cases.
