cool world, need some help!!

Player Questions Started Last reply 49 posts
When i purchesed the game yesterday.
It didn't come with a guide or a set of instructions, so as you could imagine i have a few questions.. now i'm no stranger to RPG games, i'm a hard core Elder scrolls buff, i got them all, including the expations. So i get most of the stuff in the lineage 2 game. But there's still some questions i have.. I would really appreaciate a little help. here's a few of my questions.
1st: what's a tetrarch agent?
2nd: what does an Adventure guildsman, do?
3rd: Why is everything so expensive?
4th: what is a recipe, and how do i use it?
5th: I heard that sometimes your characters/toons, can get killed by other players that are a higher lvl than you, whats up with that and how do you avoid it?
If anyone has some of the answers to my questions, Please let me know! take pity on a new guy, you never know. I might be able to lend you a hand in the future!
1. no idea what that is
2.gives you quest info and stuff
3.stuff is expensive because ppl are willing to pay those prices
4. a recipie is whats needed to craft a weapon armor or piece of jewlery, only dwarfs can use them but you can still take advantage of crafting. dont consider crafting anything until you are at least C grade

5.yeah anyone can kill you at any time for any reason
you can avoid this for the most part by not ******* ppl off, there are consequences for randomly killing ppl so as a general rule if they dont have a reason then they wont bother
the exception is what is known as a perma red, this is just a throw away character that bypasses the penalties of killing someone, you can for the most part avoid these guys by stearing clear of known perma red hang outs

hope that helps you out some and feel free to ask more questions
1) He is just a NPC that is there to make the world feel more alive. He doesn't do anything beyond that.

2) It's been sometime since I talked to one of them so this might be wrong. You can see what quest exists, their level and where to start. As well as info about raid bosses. You can access the same information if you open your map and click on the world info button.

3) No idea. That's just the way the game was designed. So only the developers themselves could answer that. Although I am sure people will give their theories about it.

4) Recipe is to craft items. There are two types. Dwarven craft recipes that you can get from monsters and normal recipes that you can get through fishing and clan halls. You can know which type it is by clicking on it. Only dwarves with the apropriate Create Item skill level can use dwarven craft recipes. Normal recipes can be used by anyone. When you use them they are registered to your recipe book. After that if you want to craft the item you just need to use the apropriate skill and choose the item you want to craft.

5) Yup. Anyone can kill anyone. If a high level doesn't like you and decide to kill there isn't much you can do about it. Do note though that if you don't hit back he will go red. That means that if his Player Kill count is higher than 5 and he dies while red he might drop an item. Also guards will attack him while red and NPCs in towns will refuse to do business with him.
He can stop being red by killing monster of around his level or being killed until all his karma returns to 0.
The newbie guide in Interlude will give you a newbie buff that will protect you from RED characaters 10 levels higher than yourself. Doesn't say anything about being pked by a white character though. Maybe I'll go try it later.

Hey Stevie,

I came to Lineage 2 from Morrowind (3+ years ago) after playing it for 2 years. that and Neverwinter Nights. I wanted the huge world of morrowind (well, huge to me at the time) and liked the different spells in NwN.

I was hoping that L2 would be similar though I really only expected to stay a week.

As far as your questions,

1, Just an NPC. The NC Soft dev team has a problem with details and consistency. For instance, in Light Elf Village there is a "Spider" NPC that is standing right there when you start in the world. No real info of this spider race is ever mentioned in any other part of the game as far as I can see.

Yet here he is and no one is asking him questions ;)

You can also ask yourself, why do female dwarves look like "girls" and male dwarves look like Old Men? I realize they did this purely for style but it always irks me that there just isn't consistency across the artistic world of L2.

I was hoping that online games would be more like Morrowind in that you would wander through the world and in the distance see an opening to a cave. Entering would lead to all sorts of discoveries.

However, l2 isn't quite like that. Though there are some really nice places to discover. The closest I got to that feeling was wandering around Oren and discovering the "Sea of Spores".

No one else was around so I felt like I was the only one in the world seeing this place.

One of my better l2 memories.

1st: what's a tetrarch agent?

It's just a 'title' for a Dark Elf NPC. Each race has slightly different 'titles' for various NPC functions. Melee skill trainers have one, Mage trainers another and other NPCs have other titles based (somewhat) on what they are or what quests/actions they support.

2nd: what does an Adventure guildsman, do?

This NPC just provides a list of Raid Bosses and their levels. No indication if they are up or specific location though.

3rd: Why is everything so expensive?

Partly by design, as the game is intended to 'encourage' you to work together with your clan to gear yourselves up, nor is it intended that you have 'top gear' without working for it.

Unfortunately, with all the 'assists' (party bonus, field bonus, newbie bonuses) to XP/leveling gain that were added the devs never went back to rebalance the drops to match. Thus, the drops in the game are even worse now than when the game was first released. And L2 has always had a extremely low drop rate/amount on items/adena. Certain base material drops used to be higher, but even those were nerfed when the manor system was implemented. (Most of us think the spoil tables are complete crap though, especially when the drops are so low as well.)

4th: what is a recipe, and how do i use it?

Recipes can only be 'registered' by dwarves with an appropriate crafting skill level. "Common Craft" recipes (Neon Green) can be registered by any character of sufficient level as Common crafting level is level and not skill dependent.

Currently Common crafting only lets you make accessories or various consumables. You get the recipes from either fishing (Oils) the Fishing NPC (Small selection) or clan halls. (Everything else) Materials for common crafts are only aquired through fishing.

All equipment (armor/weapon/jewelry) crafting can only be done by dwarves. Thus you can sell the recipes you get (Not all recipes are worth selling to players...) to other dwarves or register them yourself if you play or have a dwarf with the skill level needed.

Recipes below B grade are 'permanent' in that they can be used forever once registered. (They are lost if you delete them from your book!) B grade and above however, consumes one extra recipe for each 'craft' in addition to other materials.

For the most part you can walk up to any dwarven craft shop (Golden yellow text) and craft anything they have setup in their shop if you have the needed materials + their fee. For B grade and up this means you will need a recipe as part of the materials. (Excluding shots and higher level mat creation.)

Recipe 'levels' are indicated as follows.

(ALL) Common Craft: Neon Green
No-Grade: White
D grade: Light Blue
C Grade: Olive Drab Green
B Grade: Red
A Grade: Purple
S Grade: Black

5th: I heard that sometimes your characters/toons, can get killed by other players that are a higher lvl than you, whats up with that and how do you avoid it?

Other than the 'anti-pvp' buff coming in Interlude (L1-39 chars) your left to your own to avoid pkers. (As noted by others above)

That said, the numbers of Pkers is actually fairly low. Most PK takes place among clans ganking each others higher level chars or their academy alts these days. But there are still some that run around the 20-40ish range occasionally. (Server dependent) Generally, there are a couple of 'hotspots' for pkers to show up. (Around Dion/Execution Grounds, Abandoned camp, Windmill Hill) But even then their pretty rare since lower level chars are pretty thin these days. (Soo easy to level or be leveled with newbie buffs or clan support.)

If you happen to get ganked by a red, just go to another area to level. (Give a shout in town if you want, give the pkers name and last location...some higher level may have a grudge against that guy. =O ) You can make any XP loss up at lower levels very easily unless you repeatedly go back to the same area the PKer is in and keep letting him kill you. Most perma-red lowbie gankers only log in for very short periods of time during peak hours so it's not a high chance you'll see one all that often.

HUH!?!?!
I like how people really danced around why stuff is so expensive.

Welcome to L2

I like how people really danced around why stuff is so expensive.

Welcome to L2

It's cheaper than it used to be, quit *****in...was what I was gonna go with.

Back in my day....<rambles on>

Other than the 'anti-pvp' buff coming in Interlude (L1-39 chars) your left to your own to avoid pkers.

HUH!?!?!

Actually its more of an anti-PK buff that all noobs get up to lvl 39 that prevents anyone more than 10 lvls difference from killing them. Its only available from the newbie guides.
basics.
note the little white upside-down arrow on the targeting tag. click that and it will give you more information on the mob or player.
/invite <name> to invite someone to party. once in a party, notice that the party leader has a little drown icon on their party tag. you can hover over it to see how the non-$ loot is distributed. also, note the four white dots next to the other party members tags, click that to see their buffs/debuffs. you can double-right-click a party members tag to assist them in combat.
/friendinvite <name> to add someone to your friendlist
/friendlist to see who is online
/loc and /time to see where you are, if you dont have a scroll of escape, you can use /unstuck and it will take you to the nearest town, as described in /loc
alt+r for macros, just drag a skill or item into the lines and it will do the typing for you.
alt+y for private chat window with people already on your friendlist
alt+b to access in-game mail
important NPCs: talk to everyone in your starter village for quests, make note of what level you can do them and if they are repeatable. the newbie guide can give you buffs that will help you get to level 25 super easy. the manor manager will sell you seeds that you can use to harvest speciffic materials from mobs, instead of getting random, extremely rare, drops. only NPC you should NOT talk to is Jaradine in elf village. hes a terrorist.
once again, i've come to the right place for answers.
I can't thank you people enough!!!
As i've said, i didn't get an instruction book. or anything else with the game. So i really Appreaciate all the help.
I have to say, that the message board for this game, is really fantastic.
once again, thank you all, for your warm welcome. And your excellent answers to my many questions.
question for Antharas?
Why is Jaradine in elf village a terrorist?
is he an npc, or is he a player? And what does he look like, so i'll know what to look for.
the adventure guides also craft items and stuff from life globes??? lol don't listen to me. I've never used the system apparentley its a) for advanced players and b) not worth clan reputation points. Can be explained and you'll learn more as you play.
Can I point you in the direction of game background section might be of help. That would be for lore reasons.
Also check the chronicle notes which i think is in the same section. It explains a lot. :D

Info on the chronicles and game mechanics can be found in the > news section under > latest update ^^
welcome to you! be sure to check out the library section in the side bar; it wont have much in the way of specifics but it will give you the basic run down of everything in the game. also, if you're looking for info on quests at all, you might want to try stratics (http://lineage2.stratics.com/); they're a very good source of info! :) what server are you on btw?

in answer to q2: the adventure npcs used to be where you'd go for the raid boss info; you can now access that same information via the tab on your map. they also allow you to craft items with the orbs obtained from the raid bosses. however, the orbs are relatively difficult to obtain so it really isn't worth it for the average player.
Things are so expensive because NCsoft is crazy!

(I am pretty sure he is talking about NPC store prices since he just started.)

It is hard, most new players get help from existing players since most new players hear about L2 from a friend that plays L2. Work with what you get, you can upgrade your gear at the NPC when ur below lvl 20. Don't try to get the best right away, slowly work up with help of the NPC upgrade.

Try to get into a clan academy. Find people that will like to help out new players. Explain your predicament, tell em that you don't really know what you are doing and would really like some help. Most likely with a clan that has some level 70+ characters in there (if they are nice) will easily throw you some top NG gear, and help you get the academy armor and a D grade weapon.

L2 is hard, really the best thing you can do now to answer both the question about economy and PKers is to play on people's good will.
so?? what server you on??? lol if ur on myne ill give u top NG :P (seriously)
where do i find a clan academy? and which ones are the good ones. meaning, a clan that doesn't prey upon you. I've heard some bad stories, about them..
I also have a couple of more questions. Here they are.
1: using a shield, do you block automatically? or is it a manual thing. Because i don't think it's working for me..
2: I was in the grocery store today, the one in the dark elf village. And one of the traders was selling Elixir's, Do they give you a temp boost or a perminent boost. And i'm not talking about lesser health vials. Has any one tried them?
3: this is not so much as a question, as it is a problem i'm having. I'm hunting wolves, goblins, And imps. the strange thing is, they keep dropping boots. when they die. i last collected, 19 pair's of boots, on my last hunt, in that area, near the dark elf temple. What's up with that, does that happen to anyone else. Or am i the only one? I spend so much time hunting them down, and all i get is boots, for my trouble. is it a design problem, or am i just unlucky???
Ok! it's 2:00 am, here in Ontario, Canada. And i have to get back to the game.
Once again, thanks everyone! for all the great info..
Oh, and before i forget, I'm on the Lionna server. So please feel free to give me a shout. Don't have many friends in the game world, and i could certainly use some..
Academy - Run into any village like Dion or Gludin or Gludio and just yell that you are looking for an academy. Or sometimes people in towns are yelling that they are recruiting for the academy.
Shields - Automatically Blocks. Your system message will say something along the lines of "You shield defense has succedded"
Elixers - Any consimable you can buy in the game is temporary. 20 mins for any statistic modifier (hast pot's, etc...). One hour on L2day scrolls and Newbie Buffs.
Boots - You are not lucky, you are actually lucky. Sell them to the shops and buy what you really need. Drops are nice to get no matter what they are. You will not have enough money to fully equip yourself in top No Grade gear until you are almost our of, if not out of NG. Unless you learn the tricks on how to make money ;)

Hope that helped.

Perhaps you are confused about the fact that you are killing wolves and imps and getting "whole" boots.

This game is not like other games in that there is a bit of "game convention" in the drops. You will get whole armor or a whole weapon (lol.. if you are lucky of course!) from a "monster".

Wyverns will drop thread.

It seems the drops can be a bit representational. So, if you get Iron from an Orc drop, it's as if you collected it's iron possessions and melted them down. Other drops (such as whole weapons or armor) or just nuts.

I remember showing my friends the game. I was in the Enchanted Valley and killed a walking flower. Of course, some adena dropped after it was dead. A friend looked at me and asked "why the hell is a flower dropping money?"

Needless to say, they weren't impressed. :(
I think he was meaning...why just boots, why no helm, armor etc. Mobs drops are pretty restricted. The lists rarely include more than 7 or 8 items, many of which will be crafting materials for the 1 or 2 whole items they drop.

People will tell you L2 is expensive, but it isn't. It's just not "freeplay." Getting gear in L2 isn't automatic. You will have to learn what mobs drop useful things, how efficiently you can hunt those types, and you will have to budget your expenses of hunting. Base crafting materials (iron, stem, coal) should be saved for crafting in the distant future. Leather gaiter patterns (just for example) should be sold to NPC shops.

The grind in L2 is long, especially the exp, it eventually slows down massively. Later levels can take months to achieve even playing 3+ hrs a day. And some will even suggest that to keep up in gear, you need to take a 50/50 approach to leveling. Half the time worry about how much exp you are getting, and half the time worry about the money you are making to gear yourself.

Many of us went through the lowbie levels without help...as a matter of fact, we didn't have a lot of the nice new things (newbie buffs) that are present these days. It's not at all impossible to kill monsters without soulshots. It's very profitable hunting.

Nobody has really slipped this in, so I will remind you. Focus on upgrading your weapon. Until you have the BEST non-grade weapon available, do not spend money on anything else. Save it all until you can upgrade it. You can look in the library section to find the best NG (non grade) weapon of the type you want to play with. Don't worry about looks, worry about patk or matk...I didn't catch which toon you are playing :p It's best to avoid archery type weapons before 40. They are expensive to use and generally slower...until later when they become the best :p

For instance, in Light Elf Village there is a "Spider" NPC that is standing right there when you start in the world. No real info of this spider race is ever mentioned in any other part of the game as far as I can see.

Yet here he is and no one is asking him questions

Nerupa is a member of the arachne race, and is actually Orfen's big sister. Yes, I understand the size difference.

They were a race of weavers that aided the elves in earlier times, and still do for the most part. A forest people, if I am not mistaken.

I forget where I read it, but it was here on the site somewhere.

question for Antharas?
Why is Jaradine in elf village a terrorist?
is he an npc, or is he a player? And what does he look like, so i'll know what to look for.

thats an old joke
that NPC was once bugged and every now and again he would have a clan tag that looked like osama bin laden
Thanks for clearing some things up, Guys.
I have a couple more questions.
1: In the top left hand corner of the screen, it displays your CP, HP, and your MP. I understand HP, and MP. what the heck, does the CP, stand for?
2: where does it display your current weight, and how much can you carry? I tried looking in my status and invintory menu. i must be looking for the wrong icon or something?
That about does it for today. Thanks again for all the great info!
1.cp is Combat Points think of it as a shield a person has to go through before they touch your hp
2.at the bottom of your inventory is a percent indicator, if you hover over that it will say your current and max weight
hp, mp and cp regen is slowed at 50% and at something like 60% there is another regen penalty and a run and attack speed penalty
at 80% there is a massive penalty for regen and run speed/attack speed
try and stay below 50%
Thanks for clearing that up. I just died, and i have a death penalty. How do i get rid of it? other than using a no grade scroll?
2 ways to get rid of death penalty
recovery scroll (graded to your grade so 0-20 is ng, 20-40 D grade etc)
and by going to a black judge, very expensive option so only viable when you are red
Thanks, Nameless.
I was running around the dark elf village. When someone, i said hello to. Gave me a notice, or the sever did. i'm not sure.. It came up like this. You have been recommended by/ then the players name.. what does that mean? i tried to find the player and ask him, But the player disapeared. Does anyone know what that means?
thats the recomendation system and its just a total joke
basically you can recomend someone (you get a few recs per day to spend) and when you reach certain numbers with your recs your name gradually goes blue
you also lose a few recs yourself everyday so if you dont get constant recs your name will slowly go blue again

its serves absolutely no purpose except if you get enough recs your name will be bright blue
That's it! What a total load of b#_#**_#**.
Here i was, thinking wow! i just got a recommendation, that's so cool. Mean while, it just makes some guys name blue..
Talk about letting the air out of the bag.
Thanks again Nameless..
np man
sorry to disapoint you but if it makes you feel better you can delude yourself like some ppl and think that a blue name means better chances at enchanting, resistance from stun/sleep/root/para and a lower chance to drop items when you die (although you dont drop these days)
most of the players wont recommend you unless you are doing a good job at something or another. i, for example, will rec my party members if theyve done well with the group. other people will power rec each other til full blue tho (or use it to pay a drive-by buffer for their service), so its difficult to judge by the color whether the person really is a good player or not. at the moment, the recs dont amount to much, but that doesn't mean it will always be that way. who knows what nc has in the works! :)
Recommendation is a currency.
Recommendations (recs) are an imperfect indication of the type of person you are dealing with. Some people see recs as a "currency" and trade them back and forth. The more recs you have the more blue your name looks and some players want blue names so they can be looked up to.

However, three recs go away every day and it takes quite a few recs to turn really blue, max is 255. Personally I only rec people for doing good deeds, being honest, being nice. Quite a few other players do the same. Higher level players who have been around a while often have dark blue names since they have a lot of friends and (often) help other players a lot. Since play-time is loosely correlated with recs, it is normally a person's main character with the blue name, not their alt (or alternate) characters.

However, some people get blue names by trading recs, buying recs, or other lame tricks.

Therefore, having a blue name and having clan tags usually means that you are dealing with a high level player on their main character. However, there are exceptions so this is maybe a 75% rule.

Welcome to L2, its the best game out there by far even if it is harder than the others. It takes a special skill and dedication to honestly level up a character in L2 and the personal rewards are great. Don't ever stoop to the various cheating techniques, they ruin the game for you and for others. For you because you don't get the best reward in L2 when you cheat, the sense of personal satisfaction in achieving a difficult goal.
Pay no attention to the blue names. Get to know the people beneath them.
Lol.. Thanks guys.
:Rumpunch. I've been playing Rpg for about six years. I'm a big Elder scrolls fan. I have every expantion including Shivering isles. which i've already completed with four of my lvl 69-72, characters. I'm what you would call a die hard gamer. considering that i only had shivering isles for two weeks. And completed it with four different characters in about five days. And when i say completed, i mean completed. I just don't run around finishing missions, i explore, explore. And of coures, kill things. I don't like rushing threw games, or skipping missions/quests.
My first online game was Guildwars, i have all three. which i purchesed last month. Not bad but not great.
L2 i purchesed a few days ago, No instructions, no how to manuals, nothing!! I tried getting game guids, at my local game store's, But no luck. can't buy one or order one. L2 is one of the best games, i've ever played. So far the other players have been kind and courteous to me, in my adventures. I don't cheat, and i agree with you completely!
And i don't care about the color of someones name, if there kind to me, i'll be kind in turn. L2 is a big world. One good turn, deserves another. Hope to see you around, i'm on lionna server, feel free to chat with me, if you see me!
Got a couple of more questions????
1:What are echo crystals? And how do you use them?
2:What is the warehouse? And how long can you store stuff in there? Is it a one time fee. or do you have to keep paying?
I've tried looking for info on it, but no luck.
Does anyone know anything about it?
echo crystals are just.. musical items :P right click one in your inventory and a music theme will play :)
warehouse keeps your stuff for a one time fee (you can get you item back for free in any other warehouse around the "world") Use it only when your inventory has grown too "crowded" or heavy ;)
There are a whole bunch of excellent player written guides in the Player Guide section of these boards, check em out, you will have fun reading them.

One thing that is different about L2 is that the writers don't give us all the information about the game in a manuel, it us up to us ....the players.... to discover how the world works. I think this is a neat system since it makes it possible for some players to figure out things that others don't know and thus have a significant advantage economically or militarily.

So remember, this game is harder and different from other games. I'm very glad you are here, but I wish you were on Erica, my server.
Well, not "use it only", use it every time you feel you have excessive stuff in inventory. Which is - always ... (at least on higher levels). Remember, your quest items and equipment occupy inventory slots too, so soon you'll start cursing on "80% capacity limit" for quests when you have ... basically nothing there except stuffs you use regularly (potions, antidotes, elixirs, soul crystal, soulshots + spiritshots, backup weapon...)

Also note that dwarves can store 100 items in inventory and 120 items in private warehouse. Which make them great mules. Many people also make their personal 1-man clan level 1 to get additional 200 slots in clan warehouse.
Warehouses can also be used to send items from one character to another on the same account (using the freightman NPC). The sender is the character who pays the 1,000-adena-per-item fee. The characters do not have to be in the same town to send/receive the items.

Note that you pay 30 adena every time you place an item (the number of one item type doesn't matter) in your personal warehouse. Hence, I suggest waiting until you've collected a decent amount of one kind of item before you put them in your WH, at least while you're a low-level and you don't have a lot of adena to spare.
thanks!
How does video recording work in the game?
How do you watch, what you've recorded?
has anyone tried it? I'm really interested to know.
You can watch your replays via the [REPLAY] button on your login screen.

Note, however, that you cannot watch the replays you have recorded up until now once today's update to Interlude happens.
This is a good thread for new players like myself. I just learned a ton!

This is a good thread for new players like myself. I just learned a ton!

if you learned something id say you just arnt asking enough questions
ask more questions!!!
So, how is the new video recorder and play back, going to work, for interlude?
I've, been downloading interlude, now for about half hour. and it's not even half way done yet. Has anyone had any problems, with the automatic update?
don't worry, It took me 3 hours!
