Quest~Cybellin request Hunters village ??

I'm trying to do this quest and I'm not sure were I am going wrong.
I have to lvl a blood crystal, kill leto lizardmen with a weak dagger in order to lvl it.
I started hunting soldiers, got it to lvl4 then it broke.
then I've been having difficulty leveling it as it keeps breaking when i return with a new one from Hunters Village.
I'm lvl40 and gave lvling it with the warrior variety which had no affect so returned to lvling with the soldiers- it breaks as soon as I do this.
Anyone familiar with this quest, help would be much appreciated ty ^^

Its a risk vs reward quest.

As you level it, it has a chance to break everytime it attempts to level. You can turn it in at anytime above 0 and get adena. Higher you go, more reward.

thanks for the response but I have a question about the mobs I'm hunting. The Leto Warriors don't seem to be lvling it. Is that because I'm being impatient?
I got it to 4 very fast on the Soldiers which are weaker but now they just break the chrystal out of the 4 times I've tried to lvl it on them.
Is there some kind of strategy ie. if I start lvling it on a stronger mob I can't go back to lvling it on a lower type mob?

Yeah there is.

It will only level up so far on the weaker mobs, you'll need to hit shamans and overlords to level it up to its max.

Use to be a very good guide for it on Stratics but its not there anymore oddly enough (or I just cant find it anymore).

question; should it break when the weaker mobs are hunted after higher lvl ones?
